Forgot to follow up on this one, sorry.
We farted with that for a while and figured out that not only must the
sgixdoom binary be in your path, sndserver has to be in the current directory
when you invoke it. We do something like this:
/usr/local/games/sgi_irix5/bin # sgixdoom is in here, this is in $PATH
/usr/local/games/id # this is what DOOMWADDIR is set to and
# were we have a sndserver
inferno.~ (102) export DOOMWADDIR=/usr/local/games/id
inferno.~ (103) cd /usr/local/games/id
inferno./usr/local/games/id (104) sgixdoom
When you get the 'could not load [sndserver]' that means doom could find it
in the current directory.
