See, the thing I have a problem with here is that when someone dies by my
hand in Doom, whatever weapon I'm using, I can hear them scream. I'm surprised
that nobody else has mentioned this. The frag counter works too, but the
scream doesn't even require an eye-flick!
As far as ethics: Overall, if I kick a newbie's butt, he'll probably not want
to play again. I wait until he gets cocky and starts thinking he's bad, THEN
I go cremate him. The best kill is one where they can't even say (in 3+ DM)
who it was that killed them! I love taking really long distance sniper shots
when they don't even see me! I also love stalking in plain view, that is,
following behind them (being carefull of falling and making the grunt noise)
then blasting them when they stop. :)
I've played Doom enough to not have to think about what I'm doing with my
controllers. (kb/tb) I just play, losing myself in the game. For years I've
bitched about this or that movie not being "tactically correct". I try to
play Doom in the most tactically correct manner possble at all times.
I'll use ambushes, stalking, sniping, barrels, activating monsters and then
hiding so they go kill him, superior weapons, superior knowledge of the level,
etc to defeat my opponent, if I feel we're equally matched in terms of being
able to play Doom. ie he too has played every day for more than the last 6
months running.
Some tactically correct axioms:
It's not who's right, it's who's left!
A weapon is anything that lengthens or strengthens your sphere of defense.
Mis-information is your most powerful weapon.
Keep the door on your right.
Never trust a newbie to not shoot you in co-op mode.
