  4. The OPUS Print Subsystem lets you view and print OPUS print files. Formatting 
  5. and font changes can also be performed. Furthermore, you can view and change 
  6. OPUS print styles. 
  7.  
  8. The OPUS Print Subsystem is an extension of the OPUS program. However, it is a 
  9. separate, independent program and can be used when OPUS is not active. For 
  10. exampl, a series of print files can first be generated and the OPUS Print 
  11. Subsystem then used to display and print the files, without requiring OPUS to 
  12. be active. 
  13.  
  14. The OPUS Print Subsystem is started by OPUS when necessary after the Print 
  15. function has been invoked. Each print request generates an ASCII file with the 
  16. name 'nnn.ODR', where 'nnn' is a 3-digit number. The number 'nnn' ensures that 
  17. the name is unique. 
  18.  
  19. Normally, the "Automatically open files" option is active, causing the OPUS 
  20. Print Subsystem to periodically scan the program directory for .ODR files. If 
  21. such a file exists, it is opened, and the file content is shown in the OPUS 
  22. Print Subsystem main window, which pops up over the OPUS window. After the file 
  23. has been viewed and possibly printed, you can return to OPUS.

  25. When printing a graphic such as a Gantt chart, a network diagram, or a 
  26. calendar, a metafile (extension '.MET') is also generated. In this case, the 
  27. .ODR file contains a reference to the metafile. The metafile contains the 
  28. graphic commands used to display the graphic in OPUS. When the file is read by 
  29. the OPUS Print Subsystem these commands are re-issued and the graphic is 
  30. reproduced.

  32. The .ODR file also contains a reference to a print style. A style is an ASCII 
  33. file with the extension '.ODF'. The formatting information it contains can be 
  34. viewed in the OPUS Print Subsystem and modified if desired before printing.

  36. The OPUS Print Subsystem prevents any attempt to start more than one copy of 
  37. the program.

  84. Click on this menu item, enabled when the Automatically open files is off, to 
  85. open a print file manually. The Open dialog is displayed. By default, only 
  86. files with the extension 'ODR' are listed. These are file that have been 
  87. generated by the Print function in OPUS.

  89. The name of the file is shown in the title bar of the window.

  91. If necessary, change directories. Open the print file by double-clicking on the 
  92. list entry or by clicking on OK.

  100. This menu item closes the currently displayed print file. A dialog gives you 
  101. the opportunity to delete, rename, or simply close the file. If the file has an 
  102. 'ODR' extension and the Automatically open files option is active, the file 
  103. must either be deleted or renamed, since it would otherwise be selected again 
  104. by the automatic opening mechanism. Automatic file opening can be inactivated 
  105. if it is desired to retain the 'ODR' extension.

  107. In renaming, the file must not have an extension beginning with 'OD'.

  184. 100%                     Shows the entire page. The scale with this option is 
  185.                          1:2.

  187. 200%                     Enlarges the page such that it is approximately the 
  188.                          size it will have when printed.

  193. The entire graphic is shown in overview form. The background shows the limits 
  194. of the area available to the graphic on each page (as opposed to the total page 
  195. area). Due to the page margins, the printed graphic will be segmented. The 
  196. Style dialog lets you modify the page configuration or orientation so that the 
  197. graphic is optimally positioned and the area is used to the best advantage.

  199. Note that the graphic is generally scaled to fit the available area. However, 
  200. the aspect ratio of the graphic is maintained, so that the longer dimension 
  201. determines the final size.

  203. This menu item is enabled only for print files containing a reference to a 
  204. metafile.

  234. Enables the automatic opening of OPUS print files (extension 'ODR') in the

  237. If no print file is open, the program searches the current directory at fixed 
  238. intervals for a file with an 'ODR' extension. Only when this option is enabled 
  239. is there an automatic link between OPUS and the print subsystem: when OPUS 
  240. creates a print file, it will be automatically opened and displayed by the 
  241. print subsystem. If the option is disabled, the print files are still created, 
  242. but they are not displayed. Display can take place at some later time by 
  243. enabling the option or by opening the files manually via the menu item 
  244. 'File/Open'. 
  245.  
  246. Print files are not necessarily opened and displayed in the order they were 
  247. created in OPUS. Depending on the extent to which previous files were deleted 
  248. or renamed, the sequence for display can vary. 
  249.  
  250. This option is stored in the OPUS initialization file and is set to its 
  251. previous value at program startup. 
  252.  
  253. If a print file is open, automatic file opening is disabled. It is re-enabled 
  254. (if applicable) when the file is closed. 
  255.  
  256. The option is also disabled if an error occurs when reading a file. This 
  257. prevents repeated attempts by the program to open the file.

  436.    Default printer          Either the style does not specify a printer queue 
  437.                             or it specifies the default printer. In either 
  438.                             case, the default printer is to be used.

  440.                             If this option is inactive and the style is saved, 
  441.                             the printer defined at the time will be specified 
  442.                             for the style.

  445.    This printer             The style specifies the displayed printer by name, 
  446.                             or the style is to specify the currently defined 
  447.                             printer by name if it is saved. 
  448.  
  449.                             If this option is inactive, the saved style will 
  450.                             not contain a reference to a specific printer. In 
  451.                             this case, the default printer is to be used when 
  452.                             the style is next applied.. 
  453.  
  454.                          These options apply only to the specification of the 
  455.                          printer in the saved style. Activating or inactivating 
  456.                          this option does not change the current printer. To 
  457.                          change the current printer, click on Printer setup. 
  458.  
  459. Page border              Option for showing a border around the page. 
  460.  
  461. Fonts 
  462.  
  463.    Use                      Portion of list to which the font applies. 
  464.    Font                     Name of font 
  465.    Height                   Height of font in points (1/72 inch) 
  466.    Line spacing             Distance between lines of this list part, in points 
  467.                             (1/72 inch). 
  468.  
  469. Special settings for lists 
  470.  
  471.    Column spacing           Distance between adjacent columns. 
  472.    Underline headings       Draws a line under the column headings 
  473.    Extended pages           Causes list entries exceeding the width of one page 
  474.                             to be distributed across multiple pages 
  475.                             horizontally. In this case, the page numbers are 
  476.                             suffixed with a letter (1A,1B, etc.). 
  477.  
  478.                             If this option is inactive, entries exceeding the 
  479.                             width of a page are wrapped to the next line on the 
  480.                             same page. 
  481.    Include empty columns    Causes list columns that are empty (except for the 
  482.                             heading) to be included in the display and 
  483.                             printout; by default, these are suppressed. 
  484.    Column divider line      Draws a line between columns. This option applies 
  485.                             only if the option  Extended pages is active. 
  486.    Double space between entries Inserts a blank line between entries. This 
  487.                             option can be inactivated only if the Extended 
  488.                             pages  option is active. In the multi-line entry 
  489.                             format, entries are automatically double spaced to 
  490.                             ensure readability. 
  491.  
  492. Special settings for graphics 
  493.  
  494.    Pages horizontal/vertical Specifies the number of pages horizontally and 
  495.                             vertically. The graphic is scaled accordingly to 
  496.                             take advantage of the available area. Note that the 
  497.                             aspect ratio of the graphic is maintained. 
  498.                             Therefore, the longer dimension determines the 
  499.                             final size of the graphic. 
  500.  
  501.                             The menu item Zoom/50% shows you how the graphic is 
  502.                             distributed over these pages. 
  503.    Scaling                  Changes the size of the graphic. The value  '1' 
  504.                             represents the size determined by the program based 
  505.                             on the page area available. 
  506.  
  507. Buttons 
  508.  
  509. Printer setup            Shows the Select printer dialog, allowing you to make 
  510.                          changes to the current printer setup or select another 
  511.                          printer. 
  512.  
  513. Page numbers             Specifies page numbering information 
  514.  
  515. Page setup               Displays the Page setup dialog, in which you can 
  516.                          select the form or define the margins. 
  517.  
  518. Fonts                    Shows the standard font dialog for the indicated font 
  519.                          category.

  521. Close                    Closes the dialog and returns to the main window. If a 
  522.                          print file is open, any style changes are applied. 
  523.  
  524. Save                     Replaces the style with the same name in the current 
  525.                          directory.

  527. Save as                  Displays the Create style dialog to assign a new name 
  528.                          to the style.

  530. Change                   Accepts entries made in this dialog.
