  4. Cards for OS/2 is the OS/2 substitute for Windows CardFile.  It reads and 
  5. writes Windows cardfile files. In addition, it can read and write delimited 
  6. text files, and print labels.  With this product, you will never have to open 
  7. up a Windows session just to get a phone number. 
  8.  
  9.  1. Limitations of the unregistered version 
  10.  
  11.     a. You will not be able to save any changes you make. 
  12.  
  13.     b. You will not be able to print cards or labels. 
  14.  
  15.     c. You will see the introductory dialog every time you start Cards. 
  16.  
  17.     d. To get the registered version, just register the software for a mere 
  18.        $15.00.  See instructions under Help, Register menu item. 
  19.  
  20.  2. Limitations of version 2.0 
  21.  
  22.     a. Does not handle objects imbeded within a cardfile file.  (WAV files, 
  23.        pictures, movies etc.) 
  24.  
  25.     b. Does not have the merge feature. 
  26.  
  27.     c. If you would like these features, let me know.  Most importantly 
  28.        register the product.  The more registrations I see, the quicker I will 
  29.        put these features in.

  34. The File menu contains commands that you use to create, open, and save card 
  35. files. In addition, it also contains the exit command. 
  36.  
  37. New            Creates a new untitled card file 
  38.  
  39. Open           Opens an existing card file 
  40.  
  41. Save           Saves any changes to the current card file 
  42.  
  43. Save As        Saves the current card file using a new name 
  44.  
  45. Print Cards    Prints your cards to a printer 
  46.  
  47. Print Labels   Prints your cards as labels (ie: mailing labels) 
  48.  
  49. Exit           Exit the application

  52. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. New ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  54. You can create a new card file in Cards by using the New command. To create a 
  55. new card file, do the following: 
  56.  
  57. o Select the File menu and choose the New command. 
  58.  
  59. The word "Untitled" appears in the title bar, and the card notebook is erased.

  64. You can open a card file that exists on any drive or in any directory by using 
  65. the Open command. You may open both card file type files as well as delimted 
  66. text files.  To open a card file, do the following:

  68.  1. Select the File menu and choose the Open command. 
  69.  
  70.     A dialog box appears, showing you a list of files in the current directory. 
  71.  
  72.  2. If needed, select a the type of file from the File Type list. (Cards for 
  73.     OS/2 defaults to a card file but you may also load delimted text files)

  75.  3. Select the file to open.

  77.  4. Select the OK button.

  82. You use the Save command to save changes you've made to your card file. To save 
  83. changes to the current card file, do the following:

  90. You use the Save As command to name and save a new card file. You may save a 
  91. card file as a card file or as a delimted text file.

  97.     A dialog box appears, prompting you for a new filename.

  99.  2. If needed, select a the type of file from the File Type list. (Cards for

  337. You may print your cards to a printer by using the Print Cards command. To 
  338. print your cards:

  342.     A dialog box appears, allowing you to modify how Cards for OS/2 will print 
  343.     your cards.

  345.  2. If needed, select the printer to print the cards on with the the Print 
  346.     Destination List.

  348.  3. You may modify the job properties by pressing the Job Properties button. 
  349.  
  350.  4. If you would like a heading on each page, enter it into the Header text 
  351.     box. Then select the appropriate alignment radio button. (Centered or Left 
  352.     Align)

  354.  5. If needed, change the top, bottom, left, or right margins by entering them 
  355.     into the Margins text boxes. 
  356.  
  357.  6. You may modify what cards for OS/2 prints for each card with the Print 
  358.     Attributes check boxes.

  360.     a. Cards (Lines) are the lines drawn around the text that makes each card 
  361.        look like an actual card. 
  362.  
  363.     b. Card Text is the text inside each card. 
  364.  
  365.     c. Index is the the text that appears above each card on the cards 
  366.        notebook.

  368.  7. If you would like only one card to print per page, select the One Card Per 
  369.     Page check box.

  371.  8. Specify the print range by selecting either All Cards or Current Card radio 
  372.     buttons.

  374.  9. Select the OK button to print the cards, or Cancel button to exit without 
  375.     printing.

  380. You may print your cards as labels by using the Print Labels command. To print 
  381. labels:

  416. The Edit menu contains commands that allow you to cut, copy, and paste 
  417. information from one card to another.

  447. not place it on the clipboard.

  452. The edit index command allows the user to edit the index item for the current 
  453. card. (The title of the card)  After selecting this item a simple dialog box 
  454. will appear with the current card index item displayed.

  456. Note:  You may also edit the index of the current card by double clicking on 
  457. the area above the cards (when viewing cards) or list (when viewing list). To 
  458. change the index item, enter the new text into the dialog box and select the OK 
  459. button.

  464. The View menu item allows you to view your cards as a notebook of cards or as a 
  465. list of card indexes (Titles).  A check appears next to the current view.

  467. Note:  You may toggle the current view by right clicking on the area above the 
  468. cards (when viewing cards) or list (when viewing list).

  496. The Add menu item allows you to add a card to the current list of cards.

  498. When the Add menu item is selected a dialog box will appear, prompting you to 
  499. enter the Name of the card to add.

  501. After entering a name and selecting the OK button, The card will be added.

  506. The Delete command will delete the current card from the list of cards.

  508. After selecting the Delete command A dialog box will appear asking if you would 
  509. like to delete the current card.  Answering yes will cause the current card to 
  510. be deleted.

  515. The Duplicate command will duplicate the current card.  Another card exactly 
  516. like the current card will be placed in the list of cards 
  517.

  521. The Autodial command will dial a phone number in the current card. using the 
  522. modem in your system. 
  523.  
  524. To autodial a number: 
  525.  
  526.  1. When Autodial is selected, Cards for OS/2 will search the current card for 
  527.     a valid telephone number and place a copy of it in the Phone Number field 
  528.     of the autodial dialog box.  You may enter a different phone number in the 
  529.     field, if the number is not correct. 
  530.  
  531.  2. If the Use Prefix check box is checked, Cards for OS/2 will dial the text 
  532.     in the prefix text box before it dials the number.  (ie: use this feature 
  533.     to disable call waiting) 
  534.  
  535.  3. After making sure the correct com port is checked on the autodial dialog 
  536.     box, select the OK button. 
  537.  
  538.     Cards for OS/2 will then dial the phone number, and prompt you to pick up 
  539.     the phone.  Just pick up the phone, and select the OK button.

  544. The Search menu item allows you to quickly search for a card. 
  545.

  549. The Search Find menu item allows you to quickly search for a card. After 
  550. selecting this menu item, the find dialog box will appear. 
  551.  
  552. Enter the text you wish to search for into the "Find What" field.  You may 
  553. search the card indexes (Titles) or the text displayed on the cards by 
  554. selecting the appropriate check boxes.  You may also force the search to be 
  555. case sensitive or not, by checking or unchecking the "Case Sensitive" check 
  556. box. 
  557.  
  558. To search all cards prior to the current card, select the reverse (<<) button. 
  559. To search all cards appearing after the current card, select the forward (>>) 
  560. button.  Either of these buttons will invoke the search.  The next card that 
  561. contains the text you are searching for, or a dialog box notifying you that no 
  562. cards were found will be displayed.

  564. You may continue the search, or cancel out of the search by selecting the 
  565. Cancel button.

  570. The Search Find Next menu item allows you to continue a previous search. If 
  571. this item is enabled, selecting it will invoke the most recent search, and 
  572. display the next card that matches the search criteria.

  577. This dialog displays information about cards, such as the version number, 
  578. registration number, and copyright notice.

  582.  
  583. You can customize the look of Cards for OS/2 by changing fonts and colors.  To 
  584. change fonts, simply drag a new font from the OS/2 Font Palette program to the 
  585. item you wish to change in Cards for OS/2. To change colors, drag a new color 
  586. to the item in Cards for OS/2 using either the Solid Color Palette or Mixed 
  587. Color Palette programs.
