═══ 1. About Cards for OS/2 ═══ Cards for OS/2 is the OS/2 substitute for Windows CardFile. It reads and writes Windows cardfile files. In addition, it can read and write delimited text files, and print labels. With this product, you will never have to open up a Windows session just to get a phone number. 1. Limitations of the unregistered version a. You will not be able to save any changes you make. b. You will not be able to print cards or labels. c. You will see the introductory dialog every time you start Cards. d. To get the registered version, just register the software for a mere $15.00. See instructions under Help, Register menu item. 2. Limitations of version 2.0 a. Does not handle objects imbeded within a cardfile file. (WAV files, pictures, movies etc.) b. Does not have the merge feature. c. If you would like these features, let me know. Most importantly register the product. The more registrations I see, the quicker I will put these features in. ═══ 2. File Menu ═══ The File menu contains commands that you use to create, open, and save card files. In addition, it also contains the exit command. New Creates a new untitled card file Open Opens an existing card file Save Saves any changes to the current card file Save As Saves the current card file using a new name Print Cards Prints your cards to a printer Print Labels Prints your cards as labels (ie: mailing labels) Exit Exit the application ═══ 2.1. New ═══ You can create a new card file in Cards by using the New command. To create a new card file, do the following: o Select the File menu and choose the New command. The word "Untitled" appears in the title bar, and the card notebook is erased. ═══ 2.2. Open ═══ You can open a card file that exists on any drive or in any directory by using the Open command. You may open both card file type files as well as delimted text files. To open a card file, do the following: 1. Select the File menu and choose the Open command. A dialog box appears, showing you a list of files in the current directory. 2. If needed, select a the type of file from the File Type list. (Cards for OS/2 defaults to a card file but you may also load delimted text files) 3. Select the file to open. 4. Select the OK button. ═══ 2.3. Save ═══ You use the Save command to save changes you've made to your card file. To save changes to the current card file, do the following: o Select the File menu and choose the Save command. ═══ 2.4. Save As ═══ You use the Save As command to name and save a new card file. You may save a card file as a card file or as a delimted text file. Follow these steps to save a new card file: 1. Select the File menu and choose the Save As command. A dialog box appears, prompting you for a new filename. 2. If needed, select a the type of file from the File Type list. (Cards for OS/2 defaults to a card file but you may also save the file as a delimted text file) 3. Type in the filename to save your cards to. 4. Select the OK button. ═══ 2.5. You may choose to save the file as a delimted text file in which each line in the card text is quote and comma delimted, or you may save it as a delimted text file in which all lines in the card text are concatenated together and saved as one quote and comma delimited field. For more help, select a topic below. ═══ 2.6. Print Cards ═══ You may print your cards to a printer by using the Print Cards command. To print your cards: 1. Select the File menu and choose the Print Cards command. A dialog box appears, allowing you to modify how Cards for OS/2 will print your cards. 2. If needed, select the printer to print the cards on with the the Print Destination List. 3. You may modify the job properties by pressing the Job Properties button. 4. If you would like a heading on each page, enter it into the Header text box. Then select the appropriate alignment radio button. (Centered or Left Align) 5. If needed, change the top, bottom, left, or right margins by entering them into the Margins text boxes. 6. You may modify what cards for OS/2 prints for each card with the Print Attributes check boxes. a. Cards (Lines) are the lines drawn around the text that makes each card look like an actual card. b. Card Text is the text inside each card. c. Index is the the text that appears above each card on the cards notebook. 7. If you would like only one card to print per page, select the One Card Per Page check box. 8. Specify the print range by selecting either All Cards or Current Card radio buttons. 9. Select the OK button to print the cards, or Cancel button to exit without printing. ═══ 2.7. Print Labels ═══ You may print your cards as labels by using the Print Labels command. To print labels: 1. Select the File menu and choose the Print Labels command. A dialog box appears, allowing you to modify how Cards for OS/2 will print labels. 2. If needed, select the printer to print the labels on with the the Print Destination List. 3. You may modify the job properties by pressing the Job Properties button. 4. If you would like a heading on each label, enter it into the Header text box. Then select the appropriate alignment radio button. (Centered or Left Align) Hint: If your labels are large enough, enter your return address and check left align if you are printing mailing labels. 5. If needed, change the top, bottom, left, or right margins by entering them into the Margins text boxes. 6. Specify what card text lines to print by entering them into the Print Card Text Lines text boxes. Then select the Left Align or Centered radio buttons. 7. Enter the rows and columns of labels per page in the Labels Per Page text boxes. 8. Select the OK button to print the labels, or Cancel button to exit without printing. ═══ 3. Edit Menu ═══ The Edit menu contains commands that allow you to cut, copy, and paste information from one card to another. ═══ 3.1. Undo ═══ The undo command reverses any previous changes you made to the current card ═══ 3.2. Cut ═══ The cut command will delete the selected information on the current card and place it on the clipboard, enabling you to paste it onto another card or application. ═══ 3.3. Copy ═══ The copy command will place the selected text in the current card on the clipboard to allow you to paste it onto another card or application. ═══ 3.4. Paste ═══ The paste command will paste the contents of the clipboard on to the current card. ═══ 3.5. Clear ═══ The clear command will delete the selected text on the current card, but will not place it on the clipboard. ═══ 3.6. Index ═══ The edit index command allows the user to edit the index item for the current card. (The title of the card) After selecting this item a simple dialog box will appear with the current card index item displayed. Note: You may also edit the index of the current card by double clicking on the area above the cards (when viewing cards) or list (when viewing list). To change the index item, enter the new text into the dialog box and select the OK button. ═══ 4. View Menu ═══ The View menu item allows you to view your cards as a notebook of cards or as a list of card indexes (Titles). A check appears next to the current view. Note: You may toggle the current view by right clicking on the area above the cards (when viewing cards) or list (when viewing list). ═══ 4.1. Cards ═══ The View Cards menu item allows you to view your cards as a notebook of cards. This is the default. Note: You may toggle the current view by right clicking on the area above the cards (when viewing cards) or list (when viewing list). ═══ 4.2. List ═══ The View List menu item allows you to view your cards as a list of card indexes (Titles). Note: You may toggle the current view by right clicking on the area above the cards (when viewing cards) or list (when viewing list). ═══ 5. Card Menu ═══ The Card menu item allows you Add, Delete, Duplicate or Autodial a card. ═══ 5.1. Add ═══ The Add menu item allows you to add a card to the current list of cards. When the Add menu item is selected a dialog box will appear, prompting you to enter the Name of the card to add. After entering a name and selecting the OK button, The card will be added. ═══ 5.2. Delete ═══ The Delete command will delete the current card from the list of cards. After selecting the Delete command A dialog box will appear asking if you would like to delete the current card. Answering yes will cause the current card to be deleted. ═══ 5.3. Duplicate ═══ The Duplicate command will duplicate the current card. Another card exactly like the current card will be placed in the list of cards ═══ 5.4. Autodial ═══ The Autodial command will dial a phone number in the current card. using the modem in your system. To autodial a number: 1. When Autodial is selected, Cards for OS/2 will search the current card for a valid telephone number and place a copy of it in the Phone Number field of the autodial dialog box. You may enter a different phone number in the field, if the number is not correct. 2. If the Use Prefix check box is checked, Cards for OS/2 will dial the text in the prefix text box before it dials the number. (ie: use this feature to disable call waiting) 3. After making sure the correct com port is checked on the autodial dialog box, select the OK button. Cards for OS/2 will then dial the phone number, and prompt you to pick up the phone. Just pick up the phone, and select the OK button. ═══ 6. Search Menu ═══ The Search menu item allows you to quickly search for a card. ═══ 6.1. Find ═══ The Search Find menu item allows you to quickly search for a card. After selecting this menu item, the find dialog box will appear. Enter the text you wish to search for into the "Find What" field. You may search the card indexes (Titles) or the text displayed on the cards by selecting the appropriate check boxes. You may also force the search to be case sensitive or not, by checking or unchecking the "Case Sensitive" check box. To search all cards prior to the current card, select the reverse (<<) button. To search all cards appearing after the current card, select the forward (>>) button. Either of these buttons will invoke the search. The next card that contains the text you are searching for, or a dialog box notifying you that no cards were found will be displayed. You may continue the search, or cancel out of the search by selecting the Cancel button. ═══ 6.2. Find Next ═══ The Search Find Next menu item allows you to continue a previous search. If this item is enabled, selecting it will invoke the most recent search, and display the next card that matches the search criteria. ═══ 7. Product Information Dialog ═══ This dialog displays information about cards, such as the version number, registration number, and copyright notice. ═══ 8. Customization ═══ You can customize the look of Cards for OS/2 by changing fonts and colors. To change fonts, simply drag a new font from the OS/2 Font Palette program to the item you wish to change in Cards for OS/2. To change colors, drag a new color to the item in Cards for OS/2 using either the Solid Color Palette or Mixed Color Palette programs. Note: The OS/2 Palette programs are located in the OS/2 System Setup Folder.
