VIDEO 7 ADAPTERS
----------------
Video 7 Adapter
High resolution Video 7 based boards, other than ones using the ht209/d chips
et
are not supported by our video drivers in high resolution. The desktop and O
S/2
full screen may have synch problems. This is because the installation recogn
izes
the board as a high resolution board and loads BVHSVGA and VSVGA drivers,
rather than BVHVGA, VVGA for VGA (640x480x16) support. This however should
not cause installation problems. After the installation is complete, edit th
e
CONFIG.SYS and change the video support statements from:
SET VIO_VGA=DEVICE(BVHVGA, BVHSVGA)
DEVICE=x:\OS2\MDOS\VSVGA.SYS
(Where x is your OS/2 system drive letter.)
to indicate VGA support as follows:
SET VIO_VGA=DEVICE(BVHVGA)
DEVICE=x:\OS2\MDOS\VVGA.SYS where x is your OS/2 system drive letter.
If you get SYS3176 when trying to open a DOS or WIN-OS2 session or you
have intermittent video problems using those sessions, set the following
DOS settings for that session as follows:
HW_ROM_TO_RAM to ON,
DOS_RMSIZE to 624.
The settings screen can be reached by clicking with the right mouse button
over the icon, selecting "Open settings" and going to the "Session" page
in the notebook.
General considerations
Our PM desktop device driver supports only 640x480x16 mode (pure VGA).
OS/2 shipped SVGA support is intended to provide higher resolution modes
for DOS and VIO subsystem applications only! IBM is interested in helping
video manufacturers provide high resolution video support. Please
contact Video 7 in regards to the high resolution video driver
availability for OS/2. You can obtain more information on SVGA support
from the README file ( in INFORMATION folder).
If your desktop video is corrupted intermittently, run CHKDSK from an OS/2
command prompt to determine if any hard disk problems exist. If so, boot
OS/2 from the installation disk and press ESC when the first instruction
screen is displayed (you'll see this screen shortly after disk 1 has been
inserted). This will return you to an OS/2 command prompt. Run CHKDSK C:
/F to repair any inconsistencies on your drive. Replace C: with your
boot drive letter if yours is different.
You should also check your BIOS date to determine if you will need an
update. AMI BIOS should be dated no earlier than 4/9/90 although we
recommend using AMI BIOS dated 5/9/91 or later. Phoenix BIOS should be
dated no earlier than 5/11/92 (they recently corrected a bug that was
causing problems with OS/2).
