  1. OSINFDSK - FDISK UTILITY INFORMATION USING OS/2 WARP, 2.1

  5. FDISK UTILITY INFORMATION

  11. The following procedures apply to OS/2 2.X and WARP.
  12.  
  13. NOTE: OS/2 WARP can be used instead of OS/2 2.X
  14.  
  15. Creating a Primary Partition and a Logical Drive for Data
  16.  
  17. This example shows how an existing primary partition of 80MB,
  18. that takes up the entire hard disk space, is replaced by:
  19.  
  20.   A 45MB primary partition in which OS/2 will be installed
  21.   A 35MB logical drive, that is used for programs and data.
  22.  
  23. This example does NOT involve installation of Boot Manager.
  24.  
  25. 1.  BACK UP any data you want to save from an existing partition.
  26.     (Use the BACKUP command from your existing operating system.)
  27.  
  28. 2.  Insert the Installation Diskette and restart your system.
  29.     Follow the instructions on the screen until Installation
  30.     Drive Selection screen appears.
  31.  
  32. 3.  From the Installation Drive Selection screen, start the FDISK
  33.     program by selecting option 2, SPECIFY A DIFFERENT drive or
  34.     partition.
  35.  
  36. 4.  Delete the existing partition (that you have backed up):
  37.     A. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  38.     B. Select Delete Partition and press Enter.
  39.  
  40. 5.  Create the primary partition for OS/2 2.1:
  41.     A. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  42.     B. Select Create Partition and press Enter.
  43.     C. Type the size of primary partition (in this example, 45)
  44.        and press Enter.
  45.     D. Select Primary Partition and press Enter.
  46.     E. Select Create at Start of Free Space and press Enter.

  48. 6.  Indicate that this partition should be used for OS/2 2.1
  49.     installation:
  50.     A. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  51.     B. Select Set Installable and press Enter.
  52.  
  53. 7.  Create the logical drive for data:
  54.     A. Highlight the Fres Space line.
  55.     B. Press Enter to display the Option menu.
  56.     C. Select Create Partition and press Enter.
  57.     D. Press Enter to accept the size of the extended logical
  58.        drive (35).
  59.     E. Select Extended Logical Drive and press Enter.
  60.  
  61. NOTE: If you entered a number smaller than 35 for the
  62.       size of the logical drive, you also have to select Create
  63.       At Start of Free Space or Create at End of Free Space.

  65. 8.  Exit FDISK:
  66.     A. Press F3.
  67.     B. Select Save and Exit and press Enter.

  69. 9.  Continue with OS/2 installation until you see the OS/2 Setup
  70.     and Installation Window.

  72. 10. Format the logical drive.
  73.     A. When the OS/2 Setup and Installation window appears,
  74.        select Features and Install.
  75.     B. Specify any changes to the System Configuration window.
  76.     C. When the second OS/2 Setup and Installation window is
  77.        displayed, select Options from the menu bar.
  78.     D. Select Format.
  79.     E. Indicate which file system you want to use to format the
  80.        logical drive.

  82. NOTE: If you can, format the logical drive for a file system
  83.       that is different from the one that you formatted for the
  84.       primary partition.  For example, if the primary
  85.       partition is formatted for the High Performance File
  86.       System, you can format the logical partition for the
  87.       File Allocation Table file system.  This way, you can
  88.       have both file systems installed on the hard disk.

  90. 11. Finish the installation of OS/2 2.1.
