OSINEZAD - EASY AND ADVANCED INSTALLATION IN OS/2 WARP
10/19/94
================================================================
EASY AND ADVANCED INSTALLATION IN OS/2 WARP
================================================================
Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures
----------------------------------------------------------------
OS/2 WARP can be installed over the following products:
OS/2 for Windows
OS/2 Version 1.3
DOS 3.30 or higher
Microsoft Windows 3.1 or 3.11
Windows for Workgroups 3.1 or 3.11
NOTE: OS/2 does not enable the LAN connectivity function of
Windows for Workgroups. For information on how to use
the network function after installing OS/2, refer to
online book, Application Considerations.
If you are installing on a computer with Windows, you need the
diskettes or the CD to install Windows.
1. If Windows is preinstalled, use the utility program to
create the Windows diskettes before you install OS/2.
2. If you used device drivers, fonts, or specific language
information files different from those included on the
Windows diskettes, or from your preinstalled system, they
may be overwritten when installing OS/2. Reinstall those
device drivers after installing OS/2.
Files on your hard disk should not be compressed. If you are
using a DOS compression program, such as Stacker, AdStor, or
DoubleSpace, decompress the disk where DOS and Windows are
installed. See the manual for instructions on the compression
program or contact the vendor for assistance. If the compression
program you are using does not specifically state that it works
with OS/2, you will not be able to use the compression program
after OS/2 is installed.
See the updates to the Installation program in the README.INS on
the Installation Diskette. You may use any text editor to view
or print the README. To use OS/2 diskette to view or print,
follow these steps:
1. Insert the Installation Diskette into drive A.
2. Turn on the computer. If your computer is already on, press
Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart your system.
3. When prompted, remove Installation Diskette and insert
Diskette 1.
4. Press Enter.
5. When the Welcome Screen appears, press F3 to display a command
prompt.
6. Remove Diskette 1 and reinsert Installation Diskette.
- To View the README.INS, type:
TEDIT README.INS and press Enter
Press F3 to quit the editor.
- To Print the README.INS, type:
COPY README.INS > LPT1 and press Enter
LPT1 is the port your printer is connected to, if you are
using another port, use the correct port.

Using The Advanced Installation for OS/2 Warp
----------------------------------------------------------------
With the Advanced Installation, you can customize how OS/2
installs on your computer, including:
- Installing OS/2 on a drive or partition other than C.
- Installing OS/2 in a logical drive.
- Install OS/2 on a hard disk other than the first hard disk.
- Using the HPFS file system.
- Selecting which of the OS/2 features you want to install.
- Installing OS/2 so it can be used with Boot Manager.
- Install OS/2 in one primary partition
See the Chapter on, "Using Advanced Installation". If you have any
problems during the installation, press F1 to view the online
help whenever you see F1=Help at the bottom of the screen.
If you have any problems with any hardware or if you receive an
error message during the installation, see the Chapter, 'Solving
Installation Problems".
Using the Easy Installation for OS/2 Warp
----------------------------------------------------------------
You can choose Easy Installation to install OS/2 Warp from
diskette or CD-ROM. Easy installation lets the system choose the
options to install; you do not make any installation decisions.
The Easy Installation uses default settings so it installs on the
C:\ partition. See "Using Easy Installation" in the User's Guide
to OS/2.
Use Easy Installation to install with preselected settings, based
on your current hardware and software. This program installs the
operating system in the same partition as your DOS and Windows(if
you have DOS and Windows installed). If you use this method,
OS/2 Warp installs as the following:
- If DOS and Windows are in a primary, drive C partition, OS/2
installs in that partition.
- The partition is not reformatted.
- The Dual Boot feature is automatically set up, so you can
start your computer from either DOS or OS/2.
- If you are installing OS/2 Warp over a previous version of
OS/2, your OS/2 Desktop is preserved.
You need to indicate the type of printer connected to your
system.
NOTE: Be sure to have the MS windows diskettes or CD before
installing OS/2. You are prompted to insert the
original diskettes or CD from MS Windows.
If you have any problems during the installation, press F1 to
view the online help available whenever you see F1=Help at the
bottom of a screen.
If you have any problems with any hardware or if you receive an
error message during the installation, see "Solving Installation
Problems" in User's Guide to OS/2.
