Network RexxNews and Networks/Multiple Users
--------------------------------------------------
RexxNews is designed with Local Area Networks in mind. You can install
RexxNews and its help files on a network server, and none of the users
should suffer any conflicts.
RexxNews will first read the REXXNEWS.CFG file from the directory where
RexxNews is installed, then from the %ETC% directory, and then the
current directory. (Yes, if they all exist, RexxNews will read 3 config
files.)
In this kind of a configuration, I reccomend a REXXNEWS.CFG file in the
RexxNews directory that looks like:
==========================
server default.news.server
organization Your organization name
disclaimer Any standard disclaimer
username os2user
timezone CDT
==========================
plus any additional defaults appropriate for your network. These values
should create reasonably complete headers for anyone who doesn't create
a local REXXNEWS.CFG file but still uses RexxNews.
If you desire the user to be prompted for the value for one of the header
fields, place the value UNKNOWN for that field in the RexxNews.CFG file.
You could easily create a diskette for students to use that would contain
their own personal REXXNEWS.CFG file that would store their NEWSRC file(s)
on their floppy. They could move this floppy from machine to machine
without any problems as well. Such a file would probably contain lines
like this for students in the author's college:
==========================
server uafhp.uark.edu
username jane.doe
fullname Jane Doe
organization UA College of Agriculture and Home Economics (Student)
disclaimer Any opinions expressed are not necessarily those of the U of A
etcdir A:\
timezone CDT
==========================
A similiar approach would work for creating newsrc and configuration files
for two users of the same OS/2 machine. Create WPS icons that start RexxNews
from different directories, each of which contains an appropriate REXXNEWS.CFG
file.
