  10.     Memorandum to: Licensees of OS/2 Operating System
  11.     Subject:       ServicePak for Release 2.10
  12.  
  13.     Enclosed  is the IBM OS/2(*) 2.1 ServicePak, XR06200.  It
  14.     contains two important files you should view  before  you
  15.     start  the  "Service" procedure.  They are the README.INS
  16.     and README.SP1 files.  The README.INS file contains  late
  17.     breaking  information  about installation considerations,
  18.     and the README.SP1 file contains late  breaking  informa-
  19.     tion  about  OS/2 general system considerations.  Both of
  20.     these files are located on the Installation Diskette 1 of
  21.  
  22.     the 3.5-inch and  5.25-inch  diskettes.    An  additional
  23.     file,  the XR06200.XRF file contains detailed information
  24.     on what is fixed  by  this  ServicePak.    This  file  is
  25.     located   on  Diskette  13  of  the  3.5-inch  diskettes,
  26.     Diskette 15  of  the  5.25-inch  diskettes,  and  in  the
  27.     \FIX\OS2 directory on the CD-ROM.

  29.     You  can view the README.INS, README.SP1, and XR06200.XRF
  30.     files on your display with a  text  editor;  or  you  can
  31.     print the files by doing the following:
  32.  
  33.         Insert Installation Diskette 1 into drive A
  34.                _______________________

  36.           Type PRINT A:README.INS or README.SP1 and then press Enter.
  37.  
  38.                                     OR
  39.  
  40.         Insert Diskette 13 for 3.5-", or Diskette 15 for 5.25-" media
  41.         Into Drive A:

  43.           Type PRINT A:XR06200.XRF and then press Enter.

  46.     Also,  XR06200  includes  the  latest version of the SVGA
  47.     Display Drivers on Display Drivers Diskettes 1 through  3
  48.     of   3.5-inch  diskettes,  Display  Drivers  Diskettes  1
  49.     through 3 of the 5.25-inch diskettes.  If you need infor-
  50.     mation about CD-ROM support, please view  the  README.INS
  51.     file.

  53.     If  you  want  information on the updates to the OS/2 2.1
  54.     publications, it is available in a .ZIP file through  the
  55.     following electronic services:

  72.   GENERAL INSTALLATION INFORMATION
  73.  
  74.     Before installing XR06200, run CHKDSK /F on your OS/2
  75.     partition to ensure that your system does not currently
  76.     have any corrupted files.  To run CHKDSK:
  77.  
  78.     1.  Insert the base operating system Installation
  79.         Diskette (not the ServicePak Installation Diskette)
  80.         into drive A.
  81.     2.  Shut down and restart the system.
  82.     3.  When the IBM screen appears, remove the Installation
  83.         Diskette and insert the base operating system
  84.         Diskette 1; then press Enter.
  85.     4.  When the Welcome screen appears, press Esc to display
  86.         the command prompt.
  87.     5.  Remove Diskette 1 and insert base operating system
  88.         Diskette 2.
  89.     6.  Type "CHKDSK x: /F"
  90.         (where x is the drive letter of your OS/2 system par-
  91.         tition).

  94.  SERVICEPAK XR06200 INSTALLATION
  95.  
  96.     You can install the ServicePak from either the XR06200
  97.     INSTALLATION DISKETTES or the XR06200 CD-ROM.

  100.  Diskette Installation
  101.  
  102.     If you are installing from the XR06200 Installation
  103.     Diskettes, you can choose from the following two
  104.     procedures:
  105.  
  106.     PROCEDURE 1:  INSTALLING ALL CHANGES TO ALL PARTITIONS.
  107.     Use this procedure if you want to apply the service
  108.     updates to all the partitions that contain OS/2 2.1.  If
  109.     your system has an AOX adapter installed, you should use
  110.     this procedure.
  111.  
  112.     PROCEDURE 2:  INSTALLING ALL CHANGES TO THE SELECTED PAR-
  113.     TITIONS.  Use this procedure if you do not want to apply
  114.     the service updates to all the partitions that contain
  115.     OS/2 2.1.
  116.  
  117.     PROCEDURE 1:  INSTALLING ALL CHANGES TO ALL PARTITIONS
  118.  
  119.     NOTE:  Dual Boot users must boot into OS/2 prior to fol-
  120.     lowing this procedure.

  125.     1.  Shut down your system.  Do not go back to DOS if con-
  126.         figured as a Dual-Boot system.
  127.     2.  When the shutdown is complete, insert ServicePak
  128.         XR06200 Diskette 1 into drive A.
  129.     3.  Press Ctrl+Alt+Del.
  130.  
  131.   PROCEDURE 2:  INSTALLING ALL CHANGES TO SELECTED
  132.  
  133.     1.  Select an OS/2 command-prompt object from the Command
  134.         Prompts folder in the OS/2 System folder.
  135.     2.  Insert the ServicePak Diskette 1 into drive A.
  136.     3.  Type "A:\SERVICE" at the OS/2 command prompt; then
  137.         press Enter.
  138.     4.  Select OK to display a list of the OS/2 2.1 products
  139.         installed on your system.  (For example, if OS/2 2.1
  140.         is in more than one partition, the OS/2 2.1 base
  141.         product will be listed and selected more than once.)
  142.     5.  Deselect one or more products that you do not want to
  143.         update.
  144.     6.  Select Service and then select Continue to update all
  145.         directories in each selected product.  If you do not
  146.         want to update all directories in each selected
  147.         product, select Cancel.
  148.     7.  Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the
  149.         installation.

  152.  CD-ROM Installation
  153.  
  154.     If you are installing from the XR06200 CD-ROM, do the
  155.     following:
  156.  
  157.     NOTE:  Dual Boot users must boot into OS/2 prior to fol-
  158.     lowing this procedure.
  159.  
  160.     NOTE:  The CD-ROM installation will apply service updates
  161.     to all of the partitions that contain OS/2 2.1.  If you
  162.     do not wish to update all OS/2 2.1 partitions, you will
  163.     need to create diskettes from the CD.  For instructions
  164.     on how to create these diskettes, see the "Creating
  165.     Diskettes from the XR06200 CD" section.
  166.  
  167.     Also, multimedia (MMPM/2) support can be installed
  168.     directly from the CD-ROM.  If you want to create
  169.     diskettes for the multimedia support that is part of OS/2
  170.     2.1, note that the images are located in the
  171.     \DISKIMG\MMPM2 directory.  For instructions on how to
  172.     create these diskettes, see the "Creating Diskettes from
  173.     the XR06200 CD" section.

  178.     NOTES:
  179.  
  180.     1.  You should not stop the update process after it
  181.         starts.
  182.  
  183.     2.  When you install on some OS/2 pre-installed systems,
  184.         you might receive a message that files on the hard
  185.         disk are newer than those being installed.  Select
  186.         Yes if you are prompted with this error message.
  187.  
  188.     3.  ServicePak (XR06200) should not be installed on OS/2
  189.         2.1 for Windows systems.  It should be applied to
  190.         OS/2 2.1 systems only.
  191.  
  192.     To install:
  193.  
  194.     1.  Shut down your system.  Do not go back to DOS if con-
  195.         figured as a Dual-Boot system.
  196.     2.  Insert the ServicePak XR06200 Diskette 1 into Drive
  197.         A, and insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  198.     3.  Press and hold Ctrl+Alt and press Del to restart the
  199.         system.
  200.     4.  At a prompt, remove Diskette 1, insert Diskette 2 and
  201.         press Enter.
  202.     5.  When prompted, remove Diskette 2 from the drive and
  203.         press Enter.
  204.     6.  When the installation is finished, you will be
  205.         prompted to remove the CD and restart the system.
  206.  
  207.     If you do not have an OS/2 supported CD-ROM drive, you
  208.     can create installation diskettes from the diskette
  209.     images that are on the OS/2 CD, if you have DOS support
  210.     for your CD-ROM drive.

  214.   CREATING DISKETTES FROM THE XR06200 CD
  215.  
  216.     You use the LOADDSKF utility program to create the
  217.     diskettes.  (LOADDSKF.EXE is in the \DISKIMGS directory
  218.     of the CD. LOADDSKF can be run from either the DOS or
  219.     OS/2 operating system.)
  220.  
  221.     In the following sections, you will see lists of the
  222.     service diskettes for XR06200 and the actual diskette
  223.     names as they exist on the CD.  For each diskette image
  224.     file, use LOADDSKF to expand the image to its own
  225.     diskette.  (Note that you must use formatted diskettes
  226.     for this procedure.)

  347.     online using the OS/2 VIEW command.

  349.     You are permitted to make copies of this ServicePak up to
  350.     the number of OS/2 2.1 licenses you currently  own.    To
  351.     make  copies  of  this  ServicePak, you must use the OS/2
  352.     DISKCOPY command.   For information on  how  to  use  the
  353.     DISKCOPY  command,  type HELP DISKCOPY at an OS/2 command
