GENERAL INSTALLATION INFORMATION
o Before installing XR06100, run CHKDSK /F on
your OS/2 partition to ensure that your
system does not currently have any
corrupted files. To run CHKDSK:
1. Insert the base operating system
Installation Diskette (not the Service
Pak 2 Diskette 1) into drive A.
2. Shut down and restart the system.
3. When the IBM screen appears, remove the
Installation Diskette and insert the
base operating system Diskette 1; then
press Enter.
4. When the Welcome screen appears, press
Esc to display the command prompt.
5. Remove Diskette 1 and insert base
operating system Diskette 2.
6. Type "CHKDSK x: /F" (where x is the
drive letter of your OS/2 system
partition).
o To install XR06100 using CID, follow the
Installation Sequences instructions
described in the Redirected Installation
and Configuration Guide (publication number
96F8488) on page 8-16 section 2.
o When installing XR06100 to a LAN Server supporting
Remote IPL (RIPL), you must first obtain a special
utility package. Contact the IBM Service and Support
Center at 1-800-992-4777 and request the LAN SERVER
RIPL package for XR06100.
o You can also receive the Service Pak through System
Engineers (SE), dealers, and electronically. Electronic
methods of receiving the Service Pak include:

SERVICE PAK 2 XR06100 INSTALLATION
You can install the Service Pak from either the
XR06100 Installation Diskettes or the XR06100
CD-ROM.
Diskette Installation
---------------------
If you are installing from the XR06100
Installation Diskettes, you can choose from the
following three procedures:
o Procedure 1 installs all changes to all
partitions. Use this procedure if you want to
apply the service updates to all the partitions
that contain OS/2 2.0. If your system has an
AOX adapter installed, you should use this
procedure.
o Procedure 2 installs all changes to the
selected partitions. Use this procedure if you
do not want to apply the service updates to all
the partitions that contain OS/2 2.0.
o Procedure 3 installs only some of the changes.
Use this procedure if you want to apply only
some of the service updates to any partition
that contains OS/2 2.0.
If you are using Dual Boot on your system, you
should use this installation procedure.
Notes:
1. You should not stop the update process
after it starts.
2. When you install on some OS/2 preinstalled
systems, you might receive a message that
files on the hard disk are newer than those
being installed. Select Yes if you are
prompted with this error message.
3. Service Pak 2 (XR06100) should not be
installed on OS/2 2.1 systems. It should
be applied to OS/2 2.0 systems only. OS/2
2.0 systems include systems with the
following SYSLEVELs: XR02000, XR02005,
XR02010 (OS/2 2.00.1), XR06000, and
XR06055.
4. The last diskette of the Service Pak might
take longer to complete than the others.
This is normal operation due to the
placement of the files in the Service Pak.
PROCEDURE 1: INSTALLING ALL CHANGES TO ALL
PARTITIONS
Note: Dual Boot users must boot into OS/2
prior to following this procedure.
1. Shut down your system. Do not go back to
DOS if configured as a Dual-Boot system.
2. When the shutdown is complete, insert
Service Pak XR06100 Diskette 1 into drive A.
3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del.
PROCEDURE 2: INSTALLING ALL CHANGES TO
SELECTED PARTITIONS
1. Select an OS/2 command-prompt object from
the Command Prompts folder in the OS/2
System folder.
2. Insert the Service Pak Diskette 1 into
drive A.
3. Type "A:\SERVICE" at the OS/2 command
prompt; then press Enter.
4. Select OK to display a list of the OS/2 2.0
products installed on your system. (For
example, if OS/2 2.0 is in more than one
partition, the OS/2 2.0 base product will
be listed and selected more than once.)
5. Deselect one or more products that you do
not want to update.
6. Select Service and then select Continue to
update all directories in each selected
product. If you do not want to update all
directories in each selected product,
select Cancel.
7. Follow the instructions on the screen to
complete the installation.
PROCEDURE 3: INSTALLING ONLY SOME OF THE
CHANGES
Warning: If you do not apply the service
updates to all directories, your system might
not run after you install the Service Pak.
This could happen because an update in one
directory might be dependent on an update in
another directory. If you update one of those
directories, but not the other (for example if
you do not update the \OS2 directory), OS/2 2.0
might not be able to start after installation.
If this happens, you will have to reinstall
your original version of OS/2 2.0 and Service
Pak.
1. Select an OS/2 command-prompt object from
the Command Prompts folder in the OS/2
System folder.
2. Insert the Service Pak Diskette 1 into
drive A.
3. Type "A:\SERVICE" at the OS/2 command
prompt; then press Enter.
4. Select OK to display a list of the OS/2 2.0
products installed on your system. (For
example, if OS/2 2.0 is on more than one
partition, the OS/2 2.0 base product will
be listed and selected more than once.)
5. If you do not want the service updates
applied to a particular product, deselect
the product.
6. To specify the directories you want to
update, do the following:
a. Select Select directories.
b. Deselect the directories you do not
want to update. If you have backup
directories on a drive that is not
listed and you want the updates applied
to those directories, select Select
drives, select the directories, and
then select OK.
c. Select OK.
d. Select Service and then select Continue
to update all changes to selected
directories of selected products.
7. Follow the instructions on the screen to
complete the installation.
CD-ROM Installation
Note: Dual Boot users must boot into OS/2 prior
to following this procedure.
Note: The CD-ROM installation will apply service
updates to all of the partitions that contain OS/2
2.0. If you do not wish to update all OS/2 2.0
partitions, you will need to create diskettes from
the CD. For instructions on how to create these
diskettes, see the "Creating Diskettes from the
XR06100 CD" section.
Notes:
1. You should not stop the update process
after it starts.
2. When you install on some OS/2 preinstalled
systems, you might receive a message that
files on the hard disk are newer than those
being installed. Select Yes if you are
prompted with this error message.
3. Service Pak 2 (XR06100) should not be
installed on OS/2 2.1 systems. It should
be applied to OS/2 2.0 systems only. OS/2
2.0 systems include systems with the
following SYSLEVELs: XR02000, XR02005,
XR02010 (OS/2 2.00.1), XR06000, and
XR06055.
If you are installing from an XR06100 CD-ROM,
do the following:
1. Shut down your system. Do not go back to DOS
if configured as a Dual-Boot system.
2. Insert the Service Pak XR06100 Diskette 1 into
Drive A, and insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive.
3. Press and hold Ctrl+Alt and press Del to
restart the system.
4. At a prompt, remove Diskette 1, insert
Diskette 2 and press Enter.
5. When prompted, remove Diskette 2 from the
drive and press Enter.
6. When the installation is finished, you will
be prompted to remove the CD and restart
the system.
o If you do not have an OS/2-supported CD-ROM
drive, you can create installation diskettes
from the diskette images that are on the OS/2
CD, if you have DOS support for your CD-ROM
drive.
CREATING DISKETTES FROM THE XR06100 CD
o You use the LOADDSKF utility program to create
the diskettes. (LOADDSKF.EXE is in the
\DISKIMGS directory of the CD. LOADDSKF can be
run from either the DOS or OS/2 operating
system.)
o In the following sections, you will see lists
of the service diskettes for XR06100 and the
actual diskette names as they exist on the CD.
For each diskette image file, use LOADDSKF to
expand the image to its own diskette. (Note
that you must use formatted diskettes for this
procedure.)
For example:
cddrive:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF cddrive:\DISKIMGS\OS2\size\disk_name d:
where:
cddrive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM
size is 35 for 3.5-inch 1.44MB diskettes or
525 for 5.25-inch 1.2MB diskettes
disk_name is the diskette image file name
(for example, DISK0.DSK, PMDD1.DSK.)
d is the drive letter of your diskette
drive (A: or B:)
After you create all the diskettes (17 for
3.5-inch diskettes or 19 for 5.25-inch
diskettes), refer to the Diskette Installation
portion of this document for installation
instructions.
