  1. Literary Icons for OS/2

  4. This is a small collection of icons I created based on the books I
  5. happened to have handy which had pictures of thier authors on or in
  6. them.  The graphics were scanned, carefully reduced in size and
  7. colour depth, and touched up where needed.
  8.  
  9. The results may be, to some, laughable.  You may have to use your
  10. imagination a bit to recognize the persons portrayed.  Some turned
  11. out better than others, due to many factors.  But what do you expect
  12. from 16 colour, 32x32 icons!  In fact, there are only four colours
  13. used in each icon as they are 'black and white'. They work for me.

  16. Long Filenames
  17. --------------
  18. The files in this archive are stored with long filenames and
  19. extended atributes.  For best results hopefully you have extracted
  20. this archive with Infozip's OS/2 UNZIP utility.

  23. Who's Here?
  24. -----------
  25. Using long filenames makes all the icon files easily identifiable in
  26. directory listings.  You will notice that there are several
  27. variations for most of the icons.  The variations are simply
  28. different colour backgrounds, in all but one case.
  29.  
  30. Who is Charles Williams?  One of my favorite authors.  Perhaps his
  31. name is the most unrecognizable, so I thought i'd mention it.  He
  32. wrote seven excellent novels.
  33.  
  34. You may also notice Vincent Van Gough among the icons.  While not an
  35. author, he is of course an artist, and i just happened to have a
  36. biography of him nearby.  That is, I believe, enough justification;
  37. however he did write a few things that are still in existance.
  38. A sunday sermon which he preached early on in his 'career', though no 
  39. masterpiece of literary writing (i've heard), for example.
