  3. Today, IBM is initiating the IBM OS/2 LAN Server Rel. 4.0*  beta                
  4. program. Orders for the beta program will be accepted starting June 30,         
  5. 1994 and the packages will be shipped beginning the first half of               
  6. July 1994. OS/2 LAN Server 4.0 is easily upgradeable from it's                  
  7. previous version, OS/2 LAN Server 3.0.  The Beta program is available           
  8. to commercial customers, developers and resellers.  Beta details and            
  9. ordering information are listed below.

  11. IBM is also offering today a LAN Server upgrade, and two specially              
  12. priced OS/2 LAN Server 3.0 client server bundles.  This specially               
  13. priced offering makes OS/2 LAN Server 3.0 available at substantial              
  14. savings, and also allows customers up to 50% discounts when they                
  15. upgrade to OS/2 LAN Server 4.0.  Call 1-800-3IBMOS2 for details on              
  16. the upgrade offering and client server bundles.

  18. In addition IBM is extending Program Service for OS/2 LAN Server 3.0            
  19. through December 1995.

  21. With these offerings customers can invest with confidence in LAN                
  22. Server 3.0 today and be assured of an attractive upgrade path to                
  23. LAN Server 4.0.

  25. LAN Server 4.0 Beta details:

  28. The LAN Server 4.0 beta answers key user needs by offering improved             
  29. installation, usability, configuration, systems administration, and             
  30. publications.                                                                   
  31.                                                                                 
  32. Chief among the new features is a graphical user interface (GUI)                
  33. designed to provide installation with few end-user interactions.                
  34. The beta's object-oriented, drag-and-drop GUI also enables system               
  35. administrators to easily set up users, groups, and associated                   
  36. resources.                                                                      
  37.                                                                                 
  38. The new smaller, faster DOS/Windows** requestor has a GUI which offers          
  39. an alternative to the command line for functions such as                        
  40. installation, changing passwords and connecting to network resources.           
  41. The DOS/Windows** requester now provides peer services for sharing              
  42. resources including file and print with other requestors without                
  43. server involvement. Users can perform all functions from the command            
  44. line, the GUI, or the API.                                                      
  45.                                                                                 
  46. The LAN Server 4.0 beta provides support for Networked Dynamic Data             
  47. Exchange (DDE) and clipboard for OS/2 and Windows clients in both the           
  48. entry and advanced versions.

  50. Improved performance is available in the NetBIOS API for TCP/IP.                
  51. In addition, the TCP/IP stacks and support for NetBIOS over TCP/IP are          
  52. now included with LAN Server. This eliminates the need to purchase              
  53. separate TCP/IP packages.                                                       
  54.                                                                                 
  55. Interoperability with NTAS** and Windows for Workgroups** is improved           
  56. by removing length restrictions on domains, names, user IDs and machine         
  57. names.

  59. In addition to the features mentioned above, which are common to both           
  60. Advanced and Entry versions, LAN Server Advanced will offer the                 
  61. following improvements.
