IBM LAN NetView MANAGEMENT UTILITIES FOR OS/2 - AVAILABLE NOVEMBER 26th!
November 12, 1993
The hottest little LAN management tool just got better! IBM LAN NetView*
Management Utilities for OS/2* (LMU) is an upgrade from the popular LAN
Management Utilities/2 (LMU/2). This new product, available on November
26th, contains significant functional enhancements (Macintosh* and
DOS/Windows* support, SNMP gateway support, etc). LMU can be run as
either a standalone product or as an integrated LAN NetView framework
application.
LMU is a comprehensive suite of applications for managing networks
ranging from small print/file server LANs to large distributed
client/server enterprise environments. LMU can also be seamlessly
integrated with other NetView platforms such as LAN NetView,
NetView/6000, and NetView/390. LMU uses a non-dedicated OS/2 workstation
to manage both servers and requesters in IBM LAN Server and Novell
NetWare* networks. LMU performs asset, configuration, operations,
performance, and fault management functions.
Specifically, LMU provides:
- Configuration and asset management that can determine exactly what
hardware (memory, disk, adapters, etc) and software (applications,
syslevels, config.sys data, etc) are installed on your PCs - without
removing PC covers or leaving your desk. Data can be saved and reports
can be produced using DB2/2.
- A remote command line interface that can send commands/jobs to PCs
running OS/2 or DOS/Windows - and have the results displayed at your
workstation.
- Operations management that can schedule a job to run anytime,
anywhere, and even any frequency (one-time, hourly, weekly, annually,
etc) you choose.
- A colorful/graphical representation of your LAN that lets you see the
status of your workstations and servers at a glance.
- Fault management that can identify potential network problems, notify
you of the situation & location via pager, and automatically initiate
pre-determined corrective actions - all before your users even know
there's a problem.
- Seamless integration with other NetView (LAN NetView, NetView/6000,
NetView/390) platforms for a common "look and feel" across all your
system management products.
The list price is $995 USD per server and the clients are free. LMU
comes with a 60-day free trial. LMU can be ordered from 1-800-3IBM-OS2
(Part Number 76G7991), or from the IBM Branch Office (5871-AAA,
Feature Code 5862).
