  1. TWO NEW ENHANCEMENTS TO C SET ++ INTEGRATED OBJECT ORIENTED                     
  2. SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT TOOLS

  5. IBM today announced enhancements to it's object oriented C Set ++*              
  6. family of products introduced earlier this year.  IBM's C Set ++ for            
  7. OS/2 Version 2.1* adds tools to help programmers improve their                  
  8. productivity.  IBM's C Set ++ FirstStep for OS/2 is designed to provide         
  9. an entry-level version of C Set ++ to allow users to develop OS/2               
  10. applications with a minimum investment.

  12. The IBM family of C Set ++ products, developed by the Software Solutions        
  13. Division, allow programmers to build fast and robust software                   
  14. applications that fully leverage the power and sophistication of IBMs           
  15. 32-bit OS/2* PC operating system.  C Set ++ products effectively                
  16. reduce the time developers spend creating and maintaining applications          
  17. by use of object oriented technology.

  19. "We believe this version of C Set ++ for OS/2 is the industry's most            
  20. advanced C and C++ tool set for building integrated development                 
  21. environments for mission-critical applications," said Steve Mills,              
  22. general manager, IBM Software Solutions Division.  "New functions ensure        
  23. that applications created with C Set ++ will be quick to build, run and         
  24. modify."

  26.                  C Set ++ for OS/2 Version 2.1                                  
  27.                                                                                 
  28. For customers, C Set ++ for OS/2 Version 2.1 offers:                            
  29.   --   Enhanced class libraries, support for drag drop;                         
  30.   --   A new visual user interface builder, KASE:Set developed                  
  31.        by KASEWORKS, Inc.                                                       
  32.   --   Improved new version of WorkFrame/2 which lets                           
  33.        developers seamlessly use their choice of tools.

  35. C Set for OS/2 Version 2.1 builds on the extensive suite of C++ user            
  36. interface class libraries offered in the previous version.  IBM-unique          
  37. classes - - including the Presentation Manager User Interface class             
  38. library (which allows developers to create PM applications without              
  39. extensive PM experience) and the Collections classes (offering a basic          
  40. set of data structures) --  have added extensions which better support          
  41. the product's drag/drop function, making it easier and faster to use.

  43. As a result of a joint marketing agreement between IBM and KASEWORKS,           
  44. Inc., KASE:Set, an uncomplicated visual user interface builder developed        
  45. by KASEWORKS, Inc. has been added.  KASE:Set, developed specially for           
  46. C Set ++ customers and provided by IBM at no additional charge with             
  47. version 2.1, enhances C and C++ compilers in building Common User Access        
  48. 91-compliant graphical user interfaces.  KASE:Set generates the required        
  49. expert level source code in C or C++ (using the IBM user interface class        
  50. ║library), allowing developers to quickly create mission-critical               
  51. applications without run times, royalties or proprietary languages.             
  52.                                                                                 
  53. C Set ++ for OS/2 Version 2.1 also offers WorkFrame/2, IBM's new open           
  54. integrating development environment based on the OS/2 object-oriented           
  55. Workplace Shell.  In addition to enabling programmers to fully leverage         
  56. the power of the Workplace Shell, WorkFrame/2 provides an integrating           
  57. environment for the tools provided with C Set ++ and a framework to             
  58. support the use of additional tools.  Because WorkFrame/2 Version 2.1           
  59. is an OS/2 application, developers can integrate tools that run on DOS,         
  60. Windows 3.0** or 3.1 and OS/2.

  62.                   C Set ++ FirstStep for OS/2                                   
  63.                                                                                 
  64. Based on the same powerful collection of tools provided in the company's        
  65. C Set ++ development environment, C Set ++ FirstStep for OS/2 is the            
  66. introductory version for OS/2 programmers.  FirstStep includes                  
  67. everything required by C and C ++ developers to create professional             
  68. applications in the office or at home.  Along with the IBM standard-            
  69. setting 32-b it C and C++ compiler (featuring emerging ANSI standard            
  70. exception-handling and template support), C Set ++ FirstStep contains           
  71. a base set of C++ class libraries, a visual PM-based debugger with              
  72. multi-thread debug capability, the OS/2 Developer's Toolkit, and                
  73. WorkFrame/2 -- the IBM tool integrating environment.

  75. "C Set ++ FirstStep for OS/2 removes the entry barrier to powerful              
  76. object-oriented programming techniques, and brings a new level of               
  77. accessibility  to sophisticated application development," said Vivien           
  78. Fong, manager, IBM Language Technology Centre.  "These tools allow the          
  79. part-time programmer to create mission-critical applications without            
  80. having to sacrifice valuable business cycles to the development process."
