  26. Overview
  27.  
  28. Now you can evaluate and update your installation at your own pace
  29. according to your unique requirements.  IBM Software Choice is IBM's
  30. new approach to providing early, easy access to features, updates,
  31. and technical information, to OS/2 (R) Warp 4 and OS/2 Warp Server
  32. customers in advance of regular product releases.  Many of these
  33. features and updates focus on network computing.

  35. Some new features and updates will be available free of charge to all
  36. OS/2  Warp 4 and OS/2 Warp Server customers via the IBM Software
  37. Choice Web site.
  38.  
  39. Other features and updates will be reserved for those OS/2 Warp 4 and
  40. OS/2 Warp Server customers who have purchased an eligible Upgrade
  41. Protection Option (UPO) under an active Software Advantage for
  42. Workstations contract.
  43.  
  44. The reserved features and updates will be made available to eligible
  45. customers through the IBM Software Choice Web site and through
  46. periodically available CD-ROMs.
  47.  
  48. Eligible customers will receive a user ID and password from IBM to
  49. access the reserved features and updates on the Web site.  Refer to
  50. the Entitlement Information section for detailed information.

  105. DESCRIPTION
  106.  
  107. IBM Software Choice features and updates will be tested by IBM to
  108. operate on OS/2 products specified in the applicable license
  109. agreement provided with the feature or update.  Before downloading
  110. from the Internet, or installing from CD-ROM, the user must first
  111. accept the terms and conditions of the applicable license agreement
  112. for the feature or update.
  113.  
  114. Once the user has downloaded or installed a feature or update, the
  115. user may be entitled to make additional copies of the feature or
  116. update for use with the applicable OS/2 products.  Refer to the
  117. applicable license agreement for details.  To access the reserved
  118. features and updates on the Web, the customer must enter a valid user
  119. ID and password that will be supplied to the customer by IBM.

  121. TERMS AND CONDITIONS
  122.  
  123. Each feature and update is governed by a license agreement, the terms
  124. and conditions of which must be accepted by the customer before
  125. downloading or installing the feature or update.  The license
  126. agreement will be displayed electronically on the Web site and will
  127. be included on the CD-ROMs.
  128.  
  129. ENTITLEMENT INFORMATION
  130.  
  131. To qualify for access to the reserved features and updates, the
  132. customer must have:
  133.  
  134. o  An active IBM Software Advantage for Workstations Upgrade
  135.    Protection Option that entitled the customer to receive OS/2 Warp
  136.    4, OS/2 Warp Server Version 4, or OS/2  Warp Server Advanced
  137.    Version 4

  141. o  An active IBM Software Advantage for Workstations Upgrade
  142.    Protection Option for OS/2 Warp 4, OS/2 Warp Server Version 4, or
  143.    OS/2 Warp Server Advanced Version 4

  145. Entitlement to receive the reserved features and updates expires when
  146. the customer's IBM Software Advantage for Workstations contract
  147. expires.  In addition, the customer is entitled to access only those
  148. reserved features and updates that are designated by IBM for use with
  149. the OS/2 products for which the customer has purchased a qualifying
  150. UPO.
  151.  
  152. The IBM Software Advantage for Workstations offering, announced in
  153. Software Announcement 295-300, dated June 20, 1995, provides a
  154. comprehensive approach to acquiring software and maintaining version
  155. and release currency.  The IBM Software Advantage for Workstations
  156. offering is designed for the small, single-site customer and the
  157. worldwide enterprise customer.  With a single agreement, customers
  158. can aggregate spending for their workstation software to earn the
  159. best discount level for their overall software acquisitions.

  161. Refer to Software Announcement 297-106, dated April 22, 1997, for
  162. further enhancements to the IBM Software Advantage for Workstations
  163. offering.

  165. If you purchased any of the following UPO part numbers under an
  166. active Software Advantage for Workstations contract and either:

  168. o  That purchase entitled you to receive OS/2 Warp 4, OS/2  Warp
  169.    Server Version 4, or OS/2 Warp Server Advanced Version 4

  225. If you are entitled to receive reserved features and updates, a user
  226. ID and password will be issued, allowing you to download the reserved
  227. features and updates.  It is as simple as clicking on the catalog
  228. item, entering a valid password, and starting the download to your
  229. local system.

  231. If you have a current qualifying contract in effect as of
  232. April 30, 1997, a user ID and password will be mailed to you.
  233. Contact your IBM representative if you do not receive your user ID
  234. and password by May 30, 1997.

  236. If you purchase Software Advantage for Workstations Upgrade
  237. Protection Option for OS/2 Warp 4, OS/2 Warp Server Version 4, or
  238. OS/2 Warp Server Advanced Version 4 following this announcement, but
  239. before announcement of the follow-on version or release of the
  240. applicable OS/2 products, you will receive a user ID and password to
  241. access all of the reserved features and updates that have been made
  242. available, and the current CD-ROM of accumulated features and updates
  243. for the qualifying products.  Contact your IBM representative if you
  244. do not receive your user ID and password within four weeks following
  245. purchase of your qualifying UPO.

  247. A Software Advantage Upgrade Protection promotion for OS/2 Warp 4,
  248. OS/2 Warp Server Version 4, and OS/2 Warp Server Advanced Version 4
  249. is in effect until September 1997, which allows you to acquire
  250. upgrade protection from IBM for approximately 30% off the suggested
  251. retail price.  Contact your IBM representative or IBM reseller for
  252. details.  Reseller prices may vary.

  255. password from IBM or if you have questions about what reserved
  256. features you are entitled to receive, contact your IBM
  257. representative.  If, after receiving your user ID and password,
