At a Glance
IBM Software Choice is IBM's new approach to providing OS/2 Warp and
OS/2 Warp Server features and updates.
o Web-enabled -- continuous availability of the latest features and
updates
o Faster product to market -- features and updates are available as
soon as testing is complete...no need to wait for the next major
version to be released
o Flexible -- download and install only those features and updates
you want or wait for periodic CD-ROM delivery of features and
updates
o Network computing enablement -- access to network computing
function on your own schedule
Overview
Now you can evaluate and update your installation at your own pace
according to your unique requirements. IBM Software Choice is IBM's
new approach to providing early, easy access to features, updates,
and technical information, to OS/2 (R) Warp 4 and OS/2 Warp Server
customers in advance of regular product releases. Many of these
features and updates focus on network computing.
Some new features and updates will be available free of charge to all
OS/2 Warp 4 and OS/2 Warp Server customers via the IBM Software
Choice Web site.
Other features and updates will be reserved for those OS/2 Warp 4 and
OS/2 Warp Server customers who have purchased an eligible Upgrade
Protection Option (UPO) under an active Software Advantage for
Workstations contract.
The reserved features and updates will be made available to eligible
customers through the IBM Software Choice Web site and through
periodically available CD-ROMs.
Eligible customers will receive a user ID and password from IBM to
access the reserved features and updates on the Web site. Refer to
the Entitlement Information section for detailed information.
Customers who have Internet access can visit the IBM Software Choice
site at URL:

Refer to the IBM Software Choice catalog on the Web site or CD-ROMs,
when available, for planned features and updates including planned
availability dates.
Additional information that can be accessed through the IBM Software
Choice Web site includes:
o Technical and marketing information
o IBM product, feature, and update announcements
o Online ordering and entitlement information
o Links to complementary Web sites
Select those features and updates available to you from the IBM
Software Choice catalog and download them using a supported Web
browser.
Visit the IBM Software Choice home page frequently to view new
features, updates, and information.
IBM reserves the right to determine the contents of the IBM Software
Choice Web site and CD-ROMs, and which features and updates will be
offered when, and to whom.
Features and updates normally reserved for qualifying UPO customers
may be available to other OS/2 Warp 4, OS/2 Warp Server Version 4,
and OS/2 Warp Server Advanced Version 4 customers for a fee. Contact
your IBM representative or reseller for details. For IBM contact

DESCRIPTION
IBM Software Choice features and updates will be tested by IBM to
operate on OS/2 products specified in the applicable license
agreement provided with the feature or update. Before downloading
from the Internet, or installing from CD-ROM, the user must first
accept the terms and conditions of the applicable license agreement
for the feature or update.
Once the user has downloaded or installed a feature or update, the
user may be entitled to make additional copies of the feature or
update for use with the applicable OS/2 products. Refer to the
applicable license agreement for details. To access the reserved
features and updates on the Web, the customer must enter a valid user
ID and password that will be supplied to the customer by IBM.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Each feature and update is governed by a license agreement, the terms
and conditions of which must be accepted by the customer before
downloading or installing the feature or update. The license
agreement will be displayed electronically on the Web site and will
be included on the CD-ROMs.
ENTITLEMENT INFORMATION
To qualify for access to the reserved features and updates, the
customer must have:
o An active IBM Software Advantage for Workstations Upgrade
Protection Option that entitled the customer to receive OS/2 Warp
4, OS/2 Warp Server Version 4, or OS/2 Warp Server Advanced
Version 4
or
o An active IBM Software Advantage for Workstations Upgrade
Protection Option for OS/2 Warp 4, OS/2 Warp Server Version 4, or
OS/2 Warp Server Advanced Version 4
Entitlement to receive the reserved features and updates expires when
the customer's IBM Software Advantage for Workstations contract
expires. In addition, the customer is entitled to access only those
reserved features and updates that are designated by IBM for use with
the OS/2 products for which the customer has purchased a qualifying
UPO.
The IBM Software Advantage for Workstations offering, announced in
Software Announcement 295-300, dated June 20, 1995, provides a
comprehensive approach to acquiring software and maintaining version
and release currency. The IBM Software Advantage for Workstations
offering is designed for the small, single-site customer and the
worldwide enterprise customer. With a single agreement, customers
can aggregate spending for their workstation software to earn the
best discount level for their overall software acquisitions.
Refer to Software Announcement 297-106, dated April 22, 1997, for
further enhancements to the IBM Software Advantage for Workstations
offering.
If you purchased any of the following UPO part numbers under an
active Software Advantage for Workstations contract and either:
o That purchase entitled you to receive OS/2 Warp 4, OS/2 Warp
Server Version 4, or OS/2 Warp Server Advanced Version 4
or
o That UPO part number was for OS/2 Warp 4, OS/2 Warp Server
Version 4, or OS/2 Warp Server Advanced Version 4
then you are entitled to receive the reserved features and updates
for the applicable OS/2 products.

If you are entitled to receive reserved features and updates, a user
ID and password will be issued, allowing you to download the reserved
features and updates. It is as simple as clicking on the catalog
item, entering a valid password, and starting the download to your
local system.
If you have a current qualifying contract in effect as of
April 30, 1997, a user ID and password will be mailed to you.
Contact your IBM representative if you do not receive your user ID
and password by May 30, 1997.
If you purchase Software Advantage for Workstations Upgrade
Protection Option for OS/2 Warp 4, OS/2 Warp Server Version 4, or
OS/2 Warp Server Advanced Version 4 following this announcement, but
before announcement of the follow-on version or release of the
applicable OS/2 products, you will receive a user ID and password to
access all of the reserved features and updates that have been made
available, and the current CD-ROM of accumulated features and updates
for the qualifying products. Contact your IBM representative if you
do not receive your user ID and password within four weeks following
purchase of your qualifying UPO.
A Software Advantage Upgrade Protection promotion for OS/2 Warp 4,
OS/2 Warp Server Version 4, and OS/2 Warp Server Advanced Version 4
is in effect until September 1997, which allows you to acquire
upgrade protection from IBM for approximately 30% off the suggested
retail price. Contact your IBM representative or IBM reseller for
details. Reseller prices may vary.

password from IBM or if you have questions about what reserved
features you are entitled to receive, contact your IBM
representative. If, after receiving your user ID and password,
either is lost or forgotten, contact IBM at 800-992-4777, and a new
user ID and password will be provided to you.
