  42. Both Xit and MSE do have an option to activate the 3th button. Xit doesn't
  43. work in all circomstances (Netscape for instance). MSE works prperly all the
  44. way.

  46. In order to have the best of the 2 worlds, simply make a combination of the 2
  47. programs. This works excellent, here.

  114. Yup. Not being made out of money myself, I have a old laptop with
  115. a single PCMCIA slot and no CD.  The PP-ZIP works great, because
  116. I can use the PCMCIA slot for the modem/ethernet card and still
  117. be able to use the ZIP drive on the parallel port.  It's no speed
  118. demon, but it gets the job done.

  159. When last I looked at the supported devices, parallel CDR/RW's weren't
  160. listed.  But, you're right, I was looking for devices as they related to
  161. OS/2, not Windows.  The support *might* be different.  The only way to
  162. be sure is to drop them email and ask.

  203.  been fooling with them long enough to know that there's usually a "work

  213.  Even tho I'd heard of OS/2 for a long time, but considered it to be in
  214.  the same class as Unix.... ie; not for the masses. It wasn't until a few
  215.  years ago that I started to see OS/2 in a totally different light and
  216.  realized it was an alternative to WIN9x. Even then, I didn't seriously
  217.  consider changing to OS/2 until a few months ago. Over the years, I had
  218.  collected several IDE devices and still don't own any SCSI.

  221.  purchased used, that was ALL SCSI ie: 1x CD-R & HD, with the floppy running
  222.  off the Adaptec card. And at one time several years ago, I also had 2 NEC
  223.  SCSI CD changers on the BBS, running off a non-bios'd card along with my
  224.  IDE CD's and HD's. I only got those because a local Sysop was transferred
  225.  to Germany and was taking his BBS down and selling parts at a price I
  226.  couldn't pass up.

  250.  My point exactly! Since you were an _existing_ SCSI user, it would be
  251.  logical for you to use those devices with your notebook, even if it meant
  252.  purchasing a SCSI PCMCIA card. The 4 machines I have in this room are all
  253.  IDE, 2 of which, aren't supported by OS/2 ie; the External HP 7200 CD-RW
  254.  and my Internal HP 7500 CD-RW. The 7500 _IS_ supported as a CD-R only and
  255.  even the RJS software won't recognize it.

  274.  OS/2, regardless of how good it may be, _can_ be very expensive for someone
  275.  switching from any other OS unless, equipment purchases were made with the
  276.  thought of a possible OS switch sometime in the future or they already
  277.  owned OS/2 supported equipment.

  279.  Contrary to the views expressed by others, just because an item was
  280.  "targeted" towards the WIN9x user, doesn't in itself, make the item junk.
  281.  If that were the case, why then, would companies like HP and others,
  282.  continue to prosper? If they continuously produced inferior products, they
  283.  certainly couldn't survive in today's market. It's just unfortunate that
  284.  most of their (CD) products aren't supported by OS/2 or OS/2 related
  285.  software.

  287.  BTW, thanks to all those that offered support and suggestions regarding
  288.  the ATAPI ZIP drives. Got both of 'em working on both OS/2 machines.

  461. I'm not quite sure if it works properly, as I have not tested this utility,
  462. but TVFS (Toronto Virtual File system) does this job: it assign directorynames 
  463. instead of driveletters.

  465. On the other hand, as you rightly put, the Nakamichi MJ-5.16 is a fiver and 5
  466. driveletters are properly assigned on boot. So, if Jean-M gets 18 of them,
  467. there must be something awfully wrong on his system.

  955. Just set the SB environment variables, and any programs which know how to
  956. use a SoundBlaster will end up using the Crystal card.

  960. What you're missing is that DOS doesn't have anything like a universal
