SYSLEVEL should show these changes. There is no reason for there to be
distinuishing marks, since the only time it would really matter is when
applying a fixpack, in which case, you should check the SYSLEVEL anyway.

The system has been running under OS/2 since v 2.0 (however many years that
is) but running a DOS BBS (off topic here <g>). Those were the DV/QEMM days
when I was trying to get enough memory to have 2 CD-roms online for download
along with two incoming phone lines and couldn't make it work well. OS/2 did
it with no problems and I have been with it ever since.

Yes, to the first question. However, TG has its problems-there's NO way to
import message bases, unless you're using FastEcho (as that's the only
converter written). I wasn't too happy when I tried to import my 500+ message
base echo by hand. On the other hand, I found a nice little util for Max that
took my SQUISH.CFG and made it into MSGAREA.CTL in about one minute.
I'd highly recommend TG for any new BBS sysop. There's nothing easier to set
up, really. There is great support for it and it seems like you can always
find a sysop that's run it at one time or another. However, I have certain
needs and I've found Maximus/2 to meet them in a more capable way than TG.
Anyway, I'm off my soapbox now. ;) AFAIC, any BBS program is cool as long as
you're happy with it.

Hello All.
Scott Drake is still around. However, he is extremely busy working two jobs
and with his personal health problems. He does have an interest in OS/2 (as
that is what his IRC network servers for SysopNet do run off of) and BBSes.
<opinion>
If people want to whine and bitch, you oughta do it somewhere else. I pay for
my bandwidth and I don't appreciate this "where's the moderator" crap. Why
don't you drop him a line at sdrake@isonline.com and whine to him there?
Maybe I'll talk to him and take over as moderator.
If you want to flame me about this, try afterhoursbbs@bigfoot.com. That's
free for me.

My point is more that the moderator SHOULD participate in echoes which he

Well, we can see that you enjoy mediocrity. What about the 10% of the systems
who still link via the old backbone? Will they just lose out because someone
is too lazy to relist an echo?

Thats something we TG/2 sysops have been asking for, for a long time.
Someone that did the FE2TG converter did a very nice job with it, and loved
every minute of it.
However, as a GE 120/pro user, in the same bind as you, I basically took a
areas.bbs list, imported it into FE, then, ran fe2tg... I got all my message
bases in there, in less than a few minutes..
BTW, Gecho also exports a areas.bbs... So, it would be real easy for anyone to
do that..
Now, the only thing I have to do, is add new echos when they start.. And thats
not a big thing.. Adding close to 990 into TG is... :)

I don't consider it whining wondering why the moderator is MIA. Also, we
shouldn't have to contact him via the Internet, since he is the moderator, and
as such should read the messages in his echo (especially the ones addressed to
him).

Well, here's one more: I don't think that any of this stuff has any place in
here. If you don't like the way an echo is run, start your own! None of
this talk has any bearing whatsoever on the topic in here, which is
presumably what people who are linked to this echo are looking for...

Unfortunatly, our cries for help fall on deaf ears. I have been flat out told
by several of the TG 'groupies' (i.e. beta team) that that program simply
would be 'too hard' to write. Then I'm wondering why the hell FE2TG was
written. Wouldn't be too hard to modify that to work with AREAS.BBS or
SQUISH.CFG.
For that reason and a few others, I dropped TG and am happily running
Maximus/2.

You still have a hardware modem talking to another hardware modem on the

hardware flow control, as well..

I apologize if I was a bit touchy with that post. I ignored my own rule and
posted when I shouldn't have (I wasn't in a good mood). Scott's MIA with his
IRC network too most of the time... it's been known to limp along for a few
days before he realizes there's something wrong.
