  203. I did the same, I copied setup.exe and the NVAGRADD, NVGAGRADD.dsc and
  204. NVGAGRADD.DSP to the GRADD080 floppy and renamed the floppy NVGRADD 1.

  208. I uninstalled the SDD drivers, rebooted and installed the gradd
  209. drivers from the floppy. This has cured the loss of cursor when
  210. exiting a fullscreen OS/2 session but I still lose the mouse when
  211. switching from a Xfree86-OS/2 session.

  351. Yes this is an interesting question.  I have noticed in the last week
  352. or so that the K6-3 has dissapeared from most of my suppliers price
  353. lists in favour of low end Athlons.  Are they similar in performance?
  354. Or would a 500MHz Athlon beat a 500Mhz K6-3 by a long way?

  377.     K6-3's are going to be eventually phased out from the looks of 
  378. things.  AMD looks like they will make a K6-2+ which is something like 
  379. the K6-3, but instead of a 256k cache it will only have a 128k cache.  
  380. The reason you have never seen any AMD K6-3 500Mhz CPU's for instence is 
  381. because AMD was afraid it would eat into their Athlon 500Mhz sales.  AMD 
  382. is really pushing hard for the Athlon.  They may keep the K6-3 around but 
  383. probably only for laptops.

  435. Integer Performance K6-III > K7, MHz for MHz.
  436. Float Point Performance K7 > K6-III, by a LONG shot.
  437.  
  438. For example, SETI@Home is a very FPU intensive program, and K7 611 (550
  439. overclocked) can finish one WU in 6.5Hr. Personally, I'm in favour of K7...
  440. :) Much easier to overclock too... :)

  470. I escaped from a similar problem by using an archive of the previous
  471. condition of the desktop -- had to go back two levels, though.
  472.  
  473. I archive current desktop, then make hardware changes, the archive the new
  474. state of the machine when it works properly. Of course, I keep the old card
  475. around until the new card works...

  491.     Just got a Matrox Millenium II PCI card and so far am loving it.  
  492. However, I have discovered a problem in conjunction with my AOpen AW35 
  493. Pro ISA soundcard (Crystal Semiconductor chipset).  Ok, I install the 
  494. Matrox drivers (2.31.00, the card's BIOS is already at v1.5, BTW).  
  495. Everything is working fine.  Now, when I install the soundcard driver, 
  496. bang, Win-OS/2 is gone.  It just doesn't load up.  Now here is the weird 
  497. part, if I install the MGA GRADD driver than I get Win-OS/2 back again.  
  498. Has anyone else seen a problem like that?  Not that I am complaining 
  499. since as long as it works is fine by me, but I would prefer the Matrox 
  500. drivers mainly for its Win-OS/2 performance.

  514. at the appropiate GRADD080 ascii files and as for the other ones I
  515. compared them to which one was newer.
  516. Sofar I have not experienced any loss of mouse cursor in any sessions
  517. but I must add I do not run XFree86.

  722. IBM was that it would be distributed through the
  723. Device Driver Pack web site. This site AFAIK
  724. is not included in the "fee based" software choice
  725. offering.

  762. We should all be happy  that IBM likes the "concept" and has decided to
  763. get into it.  
  764.  
  765. If you have been following this beta closely you will have noticed how
  766. little progress had been made up until the IBM entry, and how badly
  767. the project was floundering through the summer months.  I think Scitech
  768. was a little overoptimistic about it, and got overwhelmed by the enormity
  769. of it, after they got into it.  They also discovered problems with the
  770. underlying
  771. gradd component, which could only be fixed by IBM.  After they asked
  772. IBM for it's help with the gradd problems, IBM promised to do so, but I guess
  773. their interest was sparked further than just the gradd issue, because they
  774. bought into the whole enchilada.
  775.  
  776. This is good, because other companies have taken IBM's defective driver
  777. models and used them to build drivers for their own chips without correcting
  778. any of the deficiencies. My personal opinion is that IBM's efforts in the OS/2
  779. video area have been minimal, and, making things worse, have been
  780. undercut by the chipmakers who refused (or maybe just did not know how)
  781. to do their job by writing decent OS/2 drivers--and that includes Tseng,
  782. Cirrus Logic, ATI, Matrox, S3, and the rest.
  783.  
  784. Maybe, just maybe, we'll see this all get fixed up for the better, and
  785. everyone will profit--Scitech, IBM, all the video chip and board makers,
  786. and eventually, you and me and all the other OS/2 users and fans.
  787.  
  788. And, as for payment, these folks are trying to make a living--so it's
  789. time for us all to cough up.  I registered my copy of SDD last March, on
  790. the come, so to speak, and if anyone else wants their permanent copy,
  791. they should be willing to pay a reasonable fee also.

  879. has been tossing about for the "pay" version certainly catch my interest,

  971. division from IDT).  Socket 7 is pretty much dead in terms of future 
  972. upgradability, but I wouldn't look at it with doom or gloom.  I say bravo

  974. with socket 7 whose live really lasted much longer than Intel ever had 
  975. imagined.

  1293. Exactly, that's why it's disappointing that OS/2's OpenGL will apparently 
  1294. *NOT* be hardware accelerated, by Scitech or IBM.

  1296. If you can't access 3D acceleration through OpenGL, what's the point?

  1298. The other features of SciTech's display drivers (e.g. TV Tuner support) are
  1299. not that useful to me, though it's nice to know that they are available if 
  1300. needed. The one exception might be anti-alias support, but I would have to 
  1301. see it first.

  1438.     They are not from ATI, they are from IBM.  Check and see if it 
  1439. matches in file size with the one at Hobbes.  I know that the most recent 
  1440. was uploaded there.

  1474. they said that decision hadn't been made yet.  Supposed to hear more
