I have my FIC 503+ MB and K6-3-450 (AFX 2.2v) CPU running stable at
500mhz (5X100) at 2.4v.
Could someone with an Athlon and\or a P3 could post results with the
same applications?

I did the same, I copied setup.exe and the NVAGRADD, NVGAGRADD.dsc and
NVGAGRADD.DSP to the GRADD080 floppy and renamed the floppy NVGRADD 1.
Is this what you did?
I uninstalled the SDD drivers, rebooted and installed the gradd
drivers from the floppy. This has cured the loss of cursor when
exiting a fullscreen OS/2 session but I still lose the mouse when
switching from a Xfree86-OS/2 session.

Try booting into a full screen session with the alt/F1 option at
bootup and running setvga from thier. reboot and try the install
again.

Have You made any special steeps on Your FIC 503+ (BIOS upgr, etc) for
using K6-3 ?
Mine 503+ MoBo hasn't K6-3 listed in support CPU's :-(((

Yes this is an interesting question. I have noticed in the last week
or so that the K6-3 has dissapeared from most of my suppliers price
lists in favour of low end Athlons. Are they similar in performance?
Or would a 500MHz Athlon beat a 500Mhz K6-3 by a long way?
Cheers,
Craig

K6-3's are going to be eventually phased out from the looks of
things. AMD looks like they will make a K6-2+ which is something like
the K6-3, but instead of a 256k cache it will only have a 128k cache.
The reason you have never seen any AMD K6-3 500Mhz CPU's for instence is
because AMD was afraid it would eat into their Athlon 500Mhz sales. AMD
is really pushing hard for the Athlon. They may keep the K6-3 around but
probably only for laptops.

Integer Performance K6-III > K7, MHz for MHz.
Float Point Performance K7 > K6-III, by a LONG shot.
For example, SETI@Home is a very FPU intensive program, and K7 611 (550
overclocked) can finish one WU in 6.5Hr. Personally, I'm in favour of K7...
:) Much easier to overclock too... :)

I escaped from a similar problem by using an archive of the previous
condition of the desktop -- had to go back two levels, though.
I archive current desktop, then make hardware changes, the archive the new
state of the machine when it works properly. Of course, I keep the old card
around until the new card works...

Subj: Matrox Millenium II PCI vs. AOpen AW35 ISA
From: jdc0014@InfoNET.st-johns.nf.ca (John Hong)
Just got a Matrox Millenium II PCI card and so far am loving it.
However, I have discovered a problem in conjunction with my AOpen AW35
Pro ISA soundcard (Crystal Semiconductor chipset). Ok, I install the
Matrox drivers (2.31.00, the card's BIOS is already at v1.5, BTW).
Everything is working fine. Now, when I install the soundcard driver,
bang, Win-OS/2 is gone. It just doesn't load up. Now here is the weird
part, if I install the MGA GRADD driver than I get Win-OS/2 back again.
Has anyone else seen a problem like that? Not that I am complaining
since as long as it works is fine by me, but I would prefer the Matrox
drivers mainly for its Win-OS/2 performance.

No I took all the details found in the NVIDIA ascii files and added them
at the appropiate GRADD080 ascii files and as for the other ones I
compared them to which one was newer.
Sofar I have not experienced any loss of mouse cursor in any sessions
but I must add I do not run XFree86.

My only concern about SDD is that since they got into bed with IBM that it
will there won't be a full release until after the end of the year, and that
it will be through IBM, and you will have to pay their outrageous sign up fee
just to download it. Then where will everyone be when their beta finally
expires, and they don't want to pay the sign up fee for only one little
program?

I believe the annoucement for the "free" version from
IBM was that it would be distributed through the
Device Driver Pack web site. This site AFAIK
is not included in the "fee based" software choice
offering.
The IBM licenced offering will not include 3D
acceleration or other advanced features. Those
will be in the Scitech "pay for it" version.
Outside of a few bugs (beta software after all)
the Scitech driver is a very nice piece of software.

We should all be happy that IBM likes the "concept" and has decided to
get into it.
If you have been following this beta closely you will have noticed how
little progress had been made up until the IBM entry, and how badly
the project was floundering through the summer months. I think Scitech
was a little overoptimistic about it, and got overwhelmed by the enormity
of it, after they got into it. They also discovered problems with the
underlying
gradd component, which could only be fixed by IBM. After they asked
IBM for it's help with the gradd problems, IBM promised to do so, but I guess
their interest was sparked further than just the gradd issue, because they
bought into the whole enchilada.
This is good, because other companies have taken IBM's defective driver
models and used them to build drivers for their own chips without correcting
any of the deficiencies. My personal opinion is that IBM's efforts in the OS/2
video area have been minimal, and, making things worse, have been
undercut by the chipmakers who refused (or maybe just did not know how)
to do their job by writing decent OS/2 drivers--and that includes Tseng,
Cirrus Logic, ATI, Matrox, S3, and the rest.
Maybe, just maybe, we'll see this all get fixed up for the better, and
everyone will profit--Scitech, IBM, all the video chip and board makers,
and eventually, you and me and all the other OS/2 users and fans.
And, as for payment, these folks are trying to make a living--so it's
time for us all to cough up. I registered my copy of SDD last March, on
the come, so to speak, and if anyone else wants their permanent copy,
they should be willing to pay a reasonable fee also.
It looks like this project may have a new life.
Keep your fingers crossed--but don't hold your breath.

Don't know about 3d myself, but some of the feature proposals SciTech
has been tossing about for the "pay" version certainly catch my interest,
e.g. TV tuner support, and anti-aliased fonts.

That's the plan. Beyond what the free (IBM) version will do, the
"pay-for-it" version of SDD has:
-Custom resolutions (as low as 256x256 to as high as your video card and
monitor can go) including HDTV resolutions and weird stuff like 1024x400
-"Portrate" monitor support
-On-the-fly resolution and color depth switching
-Multiple display adapter support
-Flat panel support
I'm buying two copies myself...

Cyrix was bought out by VIA (whom also bought out the WinChip
division from IDT). Socket 7 is pretty much dead in terms of future
upgradability, but I wouldn't look at it with doom or gloom. I say bravo
for AMD and Cyrix for going against the grain and sticking things out
with socket 7 whose live really lasted much longer than Intel ever had
imagined.
Cyrix under the guise of VIA will be putting out a socket 370
processor, BTW.

Check out the SciTech news server. Lots of feedback about Beta 11 (more than
any of the other betas I think...). If you haven't been there before it is :
news://scitech.display.doctor.os2.beta
To sort out refresh rates, you need to play about with the extra utils that
are packaged with SDD. Things like GACtrl and GAMon can control refresh rates
and centering. Check out the readme files too.

Why not? OpenGL isn't just for games, if that's your reason.

Exactly, that's why it's disappointing that OS/2's OpenGL will apparently
*NOT* be hardware accelerated, by Scitech or IBM.
If you can't access 3D acceleration through OpenGL, what's the point?
The other features of SciTech's display drivers (e.g. TV Tuner support) are
not that useful to me, though it's nice to know that they are available if
needed. The one exception might be anti-alias support, but I would have to
see it first.

Subj: GeForce on OS/2?
From: sh0dan@ZZZvoxpod.dk (sh0dan)
Hi folks!
I'm just about to buy a new computer, and since I'm also doing some
3D-works (under windows), the graphic card will probably be with an
nVidia GeForce chip. I realize there is no drivers (yet), and I would
therefore like to know how it performs with generic drivers (SDD or
GRADD SVGA) in regard to performance and refresh rates.
Has anyone any any experiences with this card under OS/2, they would
like to share.
/sh0dan.
Doing Java Code for VoxPod Enterprises.

Subj: RAGEPRO.ZIP of OS/2 BBS
From: katholi@attglobal.net
Greetings,
I noticed and downloaded a file called RAGEPRO.ZIP from the OS/2
BBS (www.os2bbs.com) and after unzipping, it appears to be possibly some
updated drivers for the Rage Pro from ATI. Does anyone know anything
about these? It was hard to get this card to work in the first place and
I sure don't want to mess things up...but I am still curious.

They are not from ATI, they are from IBM. Check and see if it
matches in file size with the one at Hobbes. I know that the most recent
was uploaded there.

I asked ELSA if they planned to release nV10 drivers for OS/2, and
they said that decision hadn't been made yet. Supposed to hear more
about it in December.
At least they didn't just say NO....

It apparently only works with early Rage Pro chip sets. It will not
work with my Rage Pro 3D AGP.
