  14. I got "OS/2 For Windows v2.10" CD and
  15. a games CD with "Red Storm Rising" and
  16. "F117-A Stealth Fighter" by creative labs
  17. and microprose.  Both cds for the super deal
  18. of only $10 (free shipping!)
  19. these are just cds (the originals!), I dont
  20. have any docs or anything else to go with
  21. them.  I also have a ton of 1-meg simms
  22. for real cheap, if you want anything just

  27. p.s. I don't even know if those 2 games will
  28. work under OS/2 in a VDM because I've never tried
  29. .. but they're for dos, so I dont see why not..
  30. the "for Windows" thing on the os/2 cd just means
  31. that it doesn't come with win-os2, if you want to
  32. use win-os2, then you have to have win 3.1x allready
  33. installed before installing it.

  48. I have to get a new tape drive.  I've got a HP Traven T-3000.

  50. I'd like to get away from HP products altogether.  They have great
  51. tech support, but I suspect that's because their products die so
  52. often.  (Long history of failures here).
  53.  
  54. I'm considering a Seagate SCSI 8 Gig backup.  Anyone here have
  55. experience with this drive?  Also, I'm currently using Backmaster. 
  56. Will it support this tape drive or do I have to get BackAgain/2?

  166. How many generations of backups are you going to make to a removable hard
  167. disk?

  169. I realize that the initial cost of a tape drive is higher, but the incremental
  170. cost for additional backups and the ease of storing backups off site is a
  171. tremendous plus.

  173. Using DAT, a 4GB (uncompressed) backup costs less than $10.
  174.  
  175. And what happens if the hard disk controller goes belly up? The backup is
  176. likely to be worthless too.

  246. First off, I am assuming you are putting the hard
  247. drive in a "drawer" that can be removed from a
  248. chassis that remains with the CPU box.
  249.  
  250. To reap full benefit of backups, the media holding
  251. the backed up data should be stored in a location
  252. away from the building the computer is located. 
  253. This requires transporting the storage media on a
  254. regular basis, which is not what a typical hard
  255. drive is designed for and you risk damaging the
  256. HD. Moreover, such damage may not be noticeable
  257. until you NEED the data for recovery.
  258.  
  259. Tape/MO/CD-R/JAZ/whatever with removable
  260. disk/cartridge may be more expensive one way or
  261. another, you get the intended protection that data
  262. backup offers.

  346. datastream -- a datastream well supported by OS/2 Warp.  Although not
  347. explicitly listed as a supported printer in the OS/2 Device Driver Pak
  348. Online, this printer should work well with the HP LaserJet 4 driver, for
  349. example.  If uncertain, please inquire as to any money back guarantees if
  350. you purchase the printer.  Despite "1200 dpi class resolution" claims, this
  351. printer is probably best operated in 300 or 600 dpi with its built-in 2 MB

  432. At the present time, maybe if there are any left you can buy an AIWA SCSI
  433. tape drive which uses TRAVAN 4 cartridges.  Try computergeeks and
  434. http://www.cc-solutions.com/  also called complete computer solutions.  I
  435. got one of these a year ago and it is great.  I am running it off of a
  436. cheap SCSI card with Nova bak.  These two vendors are also a terrific
  437. source for SCSI and video and NIC cards as well as other stuff.
