  26. I've got an 1869 which is plenty for me -- my needs are
  27. about exactly what yours are.

  29. I was going to upgrade to another card (in fact UPS is about
  30. to deliver it) when I stuck this ESS back in its slot last
  31. night.

  33. Be warned: if you put in a fixpack (11 and above) to be safe
  34. you probably should rem out the drivers before, then after,
  35. install the ESS drivers from the Indelible Blue site.

  54. I haven't seen a convincing PCI solution yet but then again
  55. I am bewildered by the various chipsets, vendors, and model
  56. numbers.  The card I was gonna get was PCI but wouldn't work
  57. in Win-OS2 (& OS/2 DOS): I even wrote someone at Aureal
  58. asking about the possibility of them coming out with a fully
  59. OS/2 functional drivers and the same day got a very polite
  60. "no," but a sunny forecast for Linux drivers (will post this
  61. if anyone wants to see it).

  118. I have had excellent luck with the AOpen (formerly ACER) AW35Pro, and 
  119. the AW37 (ISA) cards. They use the Crystal chip set, and work well 
  120. with the crystal OS/2 drivers. IMO, they also work better in the other
  121. OS, than many of the more expensive cards.

  142. I am fond of the ESS line...the installation is trouble free, PNP
  143. actually works, and they are reasonably priced.

  145. If you need Win-OS/2 support, the ESS 1869 is a good choice. The
  146. MIDI support is there, but it is not as sophisticated as some
  147. other high end cards. If you install this card and later apply
  148. FP 10 or greater, you will need to re-install the ESS drivers
  149. afterwards.

  151. For primo OS/2 sound at a good price (how's $14.00 sound to you?
  152. Check out: http://www.pricewatch.com) then go with the ESS Solo-1
  153. PCI card. You can control the MIDI via a parameter in your
  154. config.sys. If you want full, lush MIDI sound, you got it. If
  155. you don't, then leave the parameter out (/O:ENABLEWAVETABLE).

  208. For some reason, the Warp 4 audio editor does not like to fade out. Fade
  209. in works fine, and all other effects as far as I can tell, but fade out
  210. invariably crashes, taking the WPS down with it. 
  211.  
  212. The crash is in C:\OS2\PMSHELL.EXE but there does not seem to be a
  213. specific pointer location when it happens.
  214.  
  215. Is this something known? Is there an alternative to the built-in editor?

  312. I need?  I don't much care about Win-OS/2 support, and while I
  313. would like to have it, DOS support is really the key.  (By DOS I
  314. mean DOS via OS/2's VDM)

  316. Right now, I figure cheaper is better, and since I don't need a good
  317. sound card (I'm almost half-tempted to reuse the old ISA SB16 PnP
  318. I'm using now in the new system) I'll just look for a cheap ISA solution
  319. if I can't find a cheap PCI card that'll work under VDMs.

  400. source (cnaweb.com, great for cheap -- but good (so far)
  401. cables and whatnot) but they don't seem to list it anymore.

  426. set. It is B&W
  427. though.

  453. You can also find it on Hobbes. This link downloads the driver fro Taiwan
  454. which is not really fast. Otherwise the driver is a year old and ugly. No
  455. mixer for the sound card and the vlume is extremely low. So there is
  456. practically no use of this driver. At midnight in the middle of the forest
  457. you would be able to hear something. It's a shame that ESS hasno good
  458. driver for this card.

  491. As I understand it, the DOS/winOS2 support, for the Solo-1 card, is in
  492. the creation phase. It should support DOS/WinOS2 sessions, when it 
  493. becomes available (sorry, I don't know any more about that). I would 
  494. suggest installing the old SB16 (most of them work well with OS/2), 
  495. until the DOS/WinOS2 support becomes available. You should be able to 
  496. have both cards installed, and use the SB with the DOS VDM, and the 
  497. Solo-1 with OS/2, as long as you have enough resources (IRQs etc.) to 
  498. do that.

  561. Apply Fixpack 12 for Warp 4.  That will probably fix the problem.

  766. I have only used the Matrox G400. It is a fairly impressive card
  767. for drawing and text scrolling speeds.

  770. test it out). I normally have it running with WSeB SMP. The drivers
  771. delivered with the card did not work. I had to download the
  772. version 2.31 Matrox drivers from the Matrox web site. I also
  773. downloaded the card BIOS v 1.5 update ( the card was at
  774. version 1.3). The BIOS update was very straight forward.

  776. The Scitech Software Device Docter drivers SDD/2 beta 9
  777. work very well with the card on WSeB SMP. I have yet to do a 
  778. comparative benchmark.

  1148. phone lines with another modem?  It doesn't seem likely that a defective
  1149. modem would cause packet loss.  I would think it would just stop
  1150. functioning altogether if it was defective.

  1364. I had a related problem with my AOpen320 card.  After I got sound 
  1365. working in OS/2, I noticed it was not working in WINOS2 and would not 
  1366. work with MP3 programs.  I tried warpamp and Dink's Z program.   Z 
  1367. reported that there was no device driver.  WINOS2 reported that the 
  1368. device drivers were loaded.
  1369.  
  1370. I then used the alternate install method (described in the readme.txt 
  1371. file with the drivers):
  1372.  
  1373. 1. erase the mmos2 structure
  1374. 2. reinstall multimedia from warp cd
  1375. 3. reapply fixpack (fixpack 12 in my case)
  1376. 4. reinstall crystal drivers
  1377.  
  1378. After this sound works ok in winos2 and with both mp3 programs.
  1379.  
  1380. My next challenge is to get realaudio working.  I've tried win3.1 
  1381. versions 3.0, 4.1 and 5.0.  In all cases, I get either a stack error 
  1382. or a windows protection error.  Any suggestions?

  1521. TeamOS/2 group and pushes the OS/2 support for Epson products.
  1522. I really can recommend the GT-7000 (I'm using it myself) and since I 
  1523. bought it 2nd hand half a year ago it proved very well: the default 
  1524. settings are pretty good and the speed is ok. With the free 
  1525. SANE/PMSANE, which is the solution for me, you will soon able to use 
  1526. even some extra functions like Automatic Document Feeder (an 
  1527. additional thing which requires additional payment ;-) and more.

  1630. This approach is what I do because it guarantees that previous drivers
  1631. are gone.  But I would do step 4 before step 3.  Also, when you do step
  1632. 3, be sure that you do not have a sound card selected when you install
  1633. multimedia services.  When you reapply fixpack 12, the service tool
  1634. should examine the system and only apply the files necessary to update
  1635. MMOS2 and not all of the fixpack 12 files.
