  20.   Overflow Warpstock Crowd Bedazzled With Warped Jeopardy

  23.   Warped Jeopardy! played to a packed Warpstock theater on
  24. Sunday with guest host Randell Flint of Sundial Systems at
  25. the helm of this traveling OS/2 game show spectacular.
  26.  
  27.   Celebrity contestants David Moskowitz, Judy McDermott and
  28. Larry Finkelstein did their best to offer questions that
  29. matched the OS/2 answers given by Flint.  In Warped
  30. Jeopardy!, as in the original Jeopardy television show, the
  31. host states the answers and the guests must come up with the
  32. correct questions.
  33.  
  34.   One perplexing answer of the day, stumping all three
  35. panelists, was "The Easiest Way To A Connected World" in the
  36. Version Taglines category.  The correct response would have
  37. been the question "What is Warp 4?"
  38.  
  39.   In the special Audience Jeopardy round, all six of the
  40. audience contestants won Sundial product prizes with a
  41. little help from their teammates and the celebrities.
  42.  
  43.   Sundial's Warped Jeopardy! is a multimedia extravaganza
  44. with an OS/2 theme, complete with sound, video clips and a
  45. multimedia screen with categories and levels and, of course,
  46. answers.  "It matches our Sundial Has The Answers slogan,
  47. and it's fun for the audience, the contestants and our
  48. Sundial production crew," said Flint.  "The audience
  49. absolutely loves the show, and we'll continue to make it
  50. bigger, better and even more extravagant."
  51.  
  52.   Developing a hit product is something Sundial does well.
  53. Junk Spy, Mesa 2, Rover Pack, Relish, Clearlook and DBExpert
  54. are all part of Sundial's OS/2 product line.
  55.  
  56.   "We kept the spirit of the original Jeopardy in our new
  57. multimedia Warped Jeopardy! show," added Flint, "and we look
  58. forward to letting everyone think of their questions while
  59. Sundial Has The Answers."

  96. The main feature planned for the October meeting will be a
  97. presentation/demo of Remote Boot of OS/2 Warp 4 by SIG member
  98. Vadim Kavalerov, making use of IBM's RIPL for this purpose.
  99. Comparisons of RIPL (Remote Initial Program Load) with WSOD
  100. (Workspace on Demand) will also be discussed.
  101.   
  102. Dozens of RIPL requesters can share a single hard drive installed
  103. on a server. Switched fast ethernet networks are in general use
  104. which provide wide bandwidth to make RIPL practical. But the main
  105. advantage is simplified system administration. Applications, user
  106. data, or system software updates need be installed only once to
  107. be instantly available to the whole workgroup, on every desktop.
  108. An additional advantage of RIPL systems is high reliability.
  109.   
  110. We'll be showing how to configure a basic Warp 4 RIPL requester
  111. with Warp Server for e-business. A few other ways to manage RIPL
  112. clients with IBM and ISV products will also be discussed. All it
  113. takes to boot Warp 4 is to install a supported network card.
  114.   
  115. SIG member Vadim Kavalerov is an investment analyst working for
  116. a major brokerage firm in the Philadelphia area. He holds a PhD
  117. in physics and has been working in research labs, and has taught
  118. university students since 1984.
  119.   
  120. Other agenda items include SIG business matters, OS/2 news, new
  121. software releases, Q&A session, software raffle, etc. An OS/2
  122. system will be on hand for demos of OS/2, Java, Internet, etc.,
  123. as time permits. Free light refreshments will also be available.
  124.   
  125. Mark the date and time: Wednesday, October 27th, at 7:00pm, to
  126. hear about all the new and exciting developments, or if you have
  127. questions about OS/2 Warp and Java. OS/2 SIG meetings are open

  153. MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator.  
  154.  
  155. It allows you to play your favorite classic, and some not-so-classic
  156. arcade games (from the 70's through the 90's) from the comfort of your
  157. OS/2 desktop.
  158.  
  159. The OS/2 version has been updated to the latest version of the MAME core
  160. (.36 beta 7).  If you are upgrading from beta 6, it will automatically
  161. update your Quick List and scan for newly supported games the first time
  162. you start it up so you don't have to manually rescan everything from
  163. scratch and erase your Favorites list.

  609. MAMERun is a FREEWARE PM frontend for the DOS version of MAME
  610. (Multi. Arcade Machine Emulator).  A Frontend is a program that
  611. makes it easier for the user to interface with their application,
  612. which usually has a command line interface.  MAME is a very popular
  613. emulator that allows you to run thousands of classic arcade
  614. games on your PC (if you own the ROMs).  You can find the MAME
  615. homepage at http://mame.retrogames.com/.  The Official 
  616. (and very good) OS/2 PM port of MAME was done by
  617. Marty Amodeo and is at http://emuos2.vintagegaming.com/.

  620. I wrote MAMERun because I wanted an alternative to running the
  621. PM version without having to reboot back to Windows or type
  622. in really long command strings.  Some people have problems
  623. with their video and sound in PM.  For me it was the fact that
  624. my poor system just couldn't chug along fast enough too keep
  625. up.  I also like to tweak stuff.  I've included most of the options
  626. that MAME has (some 30 of them) so you can fiddle all you like.
  627. You may find that using the DOS version of MAME under OS/2
  628. works better for you, or maybe not.  Just keep having fun!!

  653. beta 7 has been updated.  It was originally built using a buggy GCC
  654. optimization which caused instability.  The 486 version did not suffer
  655. from this instability and did not need to be updated.  I have rebuilt
  656. the Pentium optimized version without the offending optimization and it
  657. has cured many problems.

  660. recommend that you download this update.  It is available at
  661. http://emuos2.vintagegaming.com as usual.
