You can drag and drop a template icon from the OpenDoc Templates folder to
the Desktop, or any folder of your choice to create a new OpenDoc
document. Although you can drag any template part to create a new
document, the recommended way is to drag the Page Layout to create a new
object and then drag the other parts into the Page Layout part.

You will find several sample OpenDoc templates in the OpenDoc Templates
folder shown in Figure 123. If you drag and drop an object from the
OpenDoc templates to the Desktop or a folder, it will create a new OpenDoc
document. Therefore, after you have finished working on your new document
and closed it, you can bring it up later again by double-clicking on it.

You can use any OpenDoc part stand-alone to create a document. Also you
can drag parts, except for the Page Layout Part and some of the Multimedia
parts, into another part. For example, you can create a Text Part and
drag a text file into the part. This will load the text into the part.
Then you can drag a 2D Graphics Part into the Text Part. The text will
reflow around the Graphics Part, and you can drag graphics, such as a
bitmap, into the 2D Graphics Part to display it. In this way you can
create a text document, but the Text Part will be the Root Part for this
document. If you use the Page Layout Part, then the Page Layout Part will
be the Root Part. This will give you greater flexibility in placing other
parts, such as text and graphics in your document.
