  31.    To develop OpenDoc parts for OS/2, you need to install on your system IBM 
  32.    Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 Warp Version 3.  The Toolkit contains the 
  33.    following tools for developers: 
  34. <p>
  35.    ░   Header files 
  36. <p>
  37.    ░   Library files 
  38. <p>
  39.    ░   Online documents 
  40. <p>
  41.    ░   Programming tools 
  42. <p>
  43.    ░   Sample application programs 
  44. <p>
  45. <p>
  46.    The version of the Toolkit shipped in The Developer Connection for OS/2 
  47.    Volume 9 Special Edition has been updated to provide the support needed to 
  48.    develop OpenDoc for OS/2 Version 1.0 parts. 
  49. <p>
  50.    Before installing IBM Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 Warp Version 3 on your 
  51.    system, you should have installed OpenDoc for OS/2 as described in 
  52.    <a href="3.4.1#HDROPINST">"Installation of OpenDoc for OS/2" in topic 3.4.1</a>. 
  53. <p>
  54.    Also check the software and hardware requirements as detailed in 
  55.    <a href="3.2#HDRTKINSOD">"Installation Overview of OpenDoc for OS/2 for Developers" in topic 3.2</a>. 
  56. <p>
  57.    The Developer Connection Catalog offers you the choice of installing IBM 
  58.    Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 Warp Version 3 directly from CD-ROM or 
  59.    creating the diskettes if you want to install it on a system with no 
  60.    CD-ROM attached. 
  61. <p>
  62.    To install IBM Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 Warp Version 3 directly from 
  63.    CD-ROM perform the following steps: 
  64. <p>
  65.    1.  Insert disc 3 of The Developer Connection for OS/2 Volume 9 Special 
  66.        Edition in your CD-ROM drive (make sure it is marked as Special 
  67.        Edition). 
  68. <p>
  69.    2.  Double-click on <B>The</B> <B>Developer</B> <B>Connection</B> icon on the Desktop to open 
  70.        the folder. 
  71. <p>
  72.    3.  Double-click on <B>The</B> <B>Developer</B> <B>Connection</B> <B>for</B> <B>OS/2</B> icon in The 
  73.        Developer Connection folder to open the folder. The screen shown in 
  74.        <a href="#FIG4610I69">Figure 88</a> will appear.

  87.    4.  Double-click on <B>The</B> <B>Developer</B> <B>Connection</B> <B>Catalog</B> icon in The Developer 
  88.        Connection for OS/2 folder to open the catalog.

  90.        <B>Note:</B>  In this volume of The Developer Connection for OS/2, a new IPF 
  91.        prototype catalog has been included. Although it can also be used to 
  92.        install IBM Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 Warp Version 3 on your 
  93.        system, we will not cover it in this book.  You can find some 
  94.        information on this new catalog in <a href="3.4#HDROPLOC">"Locating OpenDoc for OS/2 in The</a> 
  95.        <a href="3.4#HDROPLOC">Developer Connection Catalog" in topic 3.4</a>.

  97.    5.  Double-click on the <B>Developer</B> <B>Toolkits</B> <B>(Discs</B> <B>2/3)</B> icon to expand the 
  98.        category.  You will get The Developer Connection for OS/2 - Main View 
  99.        window shown in <a href="#FIG4610I18">Figure 89</a>.  Use the scroll bar on the right of the 
  100.        window to scroll until the end of the Developer Toolkits category to 
  101.        reach IBM Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 Warp Version 3.

  162.        components of IBM Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 Warp Version 3 you want

  176.        The default selections (as shown in <a href="#FIG4610I22">Figure 93</a>) will install all of the 
  177.        components of the IBM Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 Warp Version 3 on 
  178.        your machine.  However, you can change the selections if you are not 
  179.        interested in all of them or have limited disk space (the complete 
  180.        installation of IBM Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 Warp Version 3 
  181.        requires 90 MB of disk space).  You can check the space required for 
  182.        your selections on the right side of the screen.  (In the example 
  183.        shown the space available is less than the space required for the 
  184.        installation.)  To change the destination directory, overtype the 
  185.        contents of the Destination field. (As soon as you type a different 
  186.        drive letter, the window will show you the space available on that 
  187.        drive.)

  189.        Selecting the <B>Options</B> push button on the bottom of the window shown in 
  190.        <a href="#FIG4610I22">Figure 93</a> will show you the Installation Options screen shown in 
  191.        <a href="#FIG4610I23">Figure 94</a>.

  193.    10. Once you have finished with your selections, select the <B>Install</B> 
  194.        button. This will make the Installation Options screen appear 
  195.        (<a href="#FIG4610I23">Figure 94</a>) if you have not checked the options in the previous step.

  228.        will take some time since a lot of files will be copied to your 
  229.        system.  Be patient, the process may take half an hour with a slow 
  230.        machine.
