  2. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. README for the IPF Editor ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  4. You have received an evaluation version of the IPF Editor for OS/2 2.x.  The 
  5. IPF Editor helps you create both INF files for viewing with the VIEW.EXE and 
  6. HLP files for use with C or C++ applications you develop. 
  7.  
  8. This evaluation version lets you try the IPF Editor 25 times (i.e. you can 
  9. start the IPF Editor 25 times before your evaluation period expires). 
  10.  
  11. You can get details on using the IPF Editor in the IPFEDOC.INF file supplied 
  12. with this evaluation kit.  The IPF Editor also has complete online help 
  13. available for your convenience.  You may also wish to reference the OS/2 2.x 
  14. Toolkit's sample documents and reference. 
  15.  
  16. A sample project is supplied for your examination showing how to create online 
  17. help for C program.  You may load the project file using the "File Select 
  18. Project" and selecting the project IPFEDEMO.HPR in the directory 
  19. \IPFEDIT\CSAMPLE. 
  20.  
  21. A Second sample online document project is also available in the 
  22. \IPFEDIT\DSAMPLE subdirectory.  Use the "File Select Project" and select the 
  23. project SHAKESPR.HPR to load the project.  Feel free to change the source and 
  24. use the "Compiler Compile project..." to test out the usage of various IPF 
  25. commands.  Please do not place altered files into the IPFEDIT.ZIP that you 
  26. downloaded.

  28. You can use the "File New" option to help you create single file online 
  29. documents and compile them using the "Compiler Compile document file..." 
  30. option.

  32. Please view the LICENSE.INF to see the license agreement you will need to agree 
  33. to before using this evaluation version of the IPF Editor.

  35. Note:  You must view the PCS IPF Editor License Agreement and agree to it to 
  36.        legally use the IPF Editor program.

  42. form IPFEDIT.REG (please print it and fill it out). To order by phone, please

  47. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Reporting Problems ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  49. If you discover any problems with the IPF Editor or have suggestions for 
  50. changes to the IPF Editor please feel free to contact us.  Currently, the 
  51. problems (and solutions) listed below have been reported and may be addressed 
  52. in future versions of the IPF Editor: 
  53.  
  54. o The OS/2 2.01 Service Pack version of Trident video drivers can cause a 
  55.   protection error when the IPF Editor's dialog boxes are dragged across the 
  56.   editing window (and therefore causing a repaint of the editing window and 
  57.   dialog box).  This is an problem with the Service Pack's Trident video 
  58.   driver.  Updating to OS/2 2.1 or changing video drivers solves this problem.

  61. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Using the Supplied C Application Help Sample ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  63. The Sample C application requires C Set/2 or C Set/2++ to build correctly.  You 
  64. may be able to create it correctly with other OS/2 2.x compatible compilers but 
  65. we haven't tested it with any other compilers.

  67. To load the help project for the sample program use the "File Select Project" 
  68. menu item and select the "CSAMPLE\IPFEDEMO.HPR" file (help project files have 
  69. the extension .HPR). 
  70.  
  71. When you select a project file you will see a warning stating that the 
  72. unregistered version does not automatically load definitions from C include 
  73. files.  The registered version automatically loads these definitions.  You will 
  74. need to use the "Application Load definitions include file" menu option.

  76. You can also create a Workframe/2 project to build this.

  79. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Installing the IPF Editor ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  80.  
  81. To install the IPF Editor use the INSTALL.CMD program supplied with this 
  82. package.  Type INSTALL <DRIVE LETTER> where <DRIVE LETTER> is the drive to 
  83. install the IPF Editor on. The drive needs 700K free and REXX installed in OS/2 
  84. to succesfully install the IPF Editor. 
  85.  
  86. If you wish to manually install the IPF Editor perform the following steps: 
  87.  
  88. o Unzip IPFEDIT.ZIP into a directory called IPFEDIT 
  89.  
  90. o Create a folder entitled "IPF Editor Shareware Version" 
  91.  
  92. o Create program objects for the following: 
  93.  
  94.    - IPFEDIT.EXE titled "IPF Editor Shareware Version" 
  95.  
  96.    - VIEW.EXE with parameter value set to "IPFEDOC.INF" and titled "IPF Editor 
  97.      Online Reference" 
  98.  
  99.    - IPFEDEMO.EXE and titled "IPF Editor Sample C Application" 
  100.  
  101.    - VIEW.EXE with parameter value set to "README.INF" and titled "IPF Editor 
  102.      Readme File" 
  103.  
  104.    - VIEW.EXE with parameter value set to "LICENSE.INF" and titled "IPF Editor 
  105.      License Agreement"

  107. o View the "LICENSE.INF" file to read the PCS IPF Editor license agreement.

  109. o VIEW.EXE with parameter value set to "SHAKESPR.INF" and titled "IPF Editor 
  110.   Sample Online Document"

  112. o Remember that you only have 25 free usages to try out the IPF Editor.

  114. o You may only install the IPF Editor on a single machine as outlined in the 
  115.   license agreement.

  117. No changes to your CONFIG.SYS are required.  You may wish to adjust the HELP, 
  118. BOOKSHELF, and LIBPATH path statements to include the IPF Editor's online help, 
  119. reference, and DLL files  in those paths. See your OS/2 2.x Command Reference 
  120. for details on adjusting the HELP, BOOKSHELF, and LIBPATH path statements.
