  174.     This library contains online books for IBM C Set ++ V2.1 for OS/2.  The
  175.     CD-ROM contains the following files:

  178.     *   A bookshelf and a bookshelf search index for the IBM C Set ++ for OS/2

  180.     *   This README file
  181.     *   The IBM SAA* BookManager* Library Reader*/2 and IBM BookManager Library
  182.         Reader/DOS, which are limited editions of the IBM BookManager READ/2
  183.         and READ/DOS licensed programs.  The IBM Library Reader programs let
  184.         you read and search any IBM book specifically enabled by IBM for the
  185.         IBM Library Reader programs.  Books distributed on CD-ROM by IBM
  186.         beginning with the IBM Online Library Starter Kit are enabled for the
  187.         IBM Library Reader programs.
  188.     *   A program that installs an IBM Library Reader program, sets up the
  189.         BookManager book and bookshelf search path, and writes OS/2 Group

  236.     To use these online books on a workstation with a CD-ROM drive (or
  237.     attached to a network equipped with a CD-ROM drive), you must use one of
  238.     the following:  the IBM Library Readers (provided on this CD-ROM), IBM
  239.     BookManager READ/2 (Program No. 5601-454), or IBM BookManager READ/DOS
  240.     (Program No. 5601-453).
  241.  
  242.     To use the online books and bookshelves on an MVS system, you must
  243.     transfer the files from this CD-ROM to MVS using the IBM Softcopy Receiver
  244.     Tool, the IBM Bookshelf Upload Program for MVS, or any file transfer
  245.     utility that supports both ASCII and binary file transfer to MVS.  You
  246.     must use IBM BookManager READ/MVS (Program No. 5695-046) to read them.
  247.  
  248.     To use the online books and bookshelves on a VM system, you must transfer
  249.     the files from this CD-ROM to VM using the IBM Softcopy Receiver Tool, the
  250.     IBM Bookshelf Upload Program for VM, or any file transfer utility that
  251.     supports both ASCII and binary file transfer to VM.  You must use IBM
  252.     BookManager READ/VM (Program No. 5684-062) to read them.

  254.     Note:  If you have already installed SCRT Version 1.0 or 1.1 on MVS or VM,

  287.     A letter code in the first column of the table identifies files that are
  288.     new or have changed since they were last distributed on this product kit.
  289.     If more than one code applies, the code with the highest priority is
  290.     shown.  The codes, highest priority listed first, are:

  292.     N  New (first time the online book is available)
  293.     T  Technical change (new or changed information about the product)
  294.     S  Service change (new or changed information that is not the result of a

  433.     This CD-ROM includes a program to help you install and set up an IBM
  434.     Online Library.  The program installs or updates the IBM Library Reader on
  435.     your hard disk and updates your workstation so that you can access the
  436.     online book files.  If you already have the IBM Library Reader,
  437.     BookManager READ/2, or BookManager READ/DOS installed and you are adding a
  438.     new collection of IBM online books, you should still run the installation
  439.     program to set up your book and bookshelf search path so you can access
  440.     the online book files.

  458.     The IBM Library Reader installation program installs the IBM Library
  459.     Reader on your hard disk and updates your book and bookshelf search path
  460.     to include the books and bookshelves on the CD-ROM.  To run the
  461.     installation program, do the following:
  462.  
  463.     1.  Make sure that the CD-ROM drive is turned on; then insert this CD-ROM
  464.         in the drive by doing one of the following:
  465.  
  466.         *   If you are using a CD-ROM drive that requires a caddy, such as the
  467.             IBM 3510, do the following:
  468.  
  469.             a.  Open the CD-ROM caddy by squeezing the tabs on each corner of
  470.                 one end of the caddy and lifting the cover.
  471.  
  472.             b.  Place the CD-ROM in the caddy so the printed side shows
  473.                 through the clear plastic cover.
  474.  
  475.             c.  Close the cover.  Make sure that the CD-ROM is not caught
  476.                 under the cover.
  477.  
  478.             d.  With the cover facing up, insert the caddy into the CD-ROM
  479.                 drive.  The arrow on the caddy points into the drive.
  480.  
  481.         *   If you are using a CD-ROM drive that does not require a caddy,
  482.             simply insert the CD-ROM into the drive, usually with the printed
  483.             side up.
  484.  
  485.         *   If you are not sure how to use your CD-ROM drive, refer to the
  486.             instruction manual that came with it to learn how to insert
  487.             CD-ROMs correctly.
  488.  
  489.     2.  Go to an OS/2 or DOS command prompt to install the OS/2 or DOS version
  490.         of IBM Library Reader respectively.  If you want to install both
  491.         versions, follow these instructions to install the OS/2 version first,
  492.         then return here and install the DOS/version.
  493.  
  494.     3.  Switch to the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive that contains the IBM
  495.         Library Reader.  For example, if your CD-ROM drive is d, type:  d:
  496.  
  497.     4.  Change to the directory on the CD-ROM that contains the IBM Library
  498.         Reader.  Type:  cd \ez2inst
  499.  
  500.     5.  To start the IBM Library Reader installation program, type:  install
  501.  
  502.         Panel 1 should appear on your screen
  503.  
  504.     6.  After reading panel 1, press PgDn.
  505.  
  506.     7.  On Panel 2, make a selection that applies to your workstation.  Type
  507.         the number of your selection if you need to, and press PgDn to
  508.         continue.
  509.  
  510.     8.  On Panel 3, do the following:
  511.  
  512.         a.  Type the drive letters for any drives on which you plan to store
  513.             online book files.  The drives you can select are listed at the
  514.             top of the screen.  You should include your CD-ROM drives and any
  515.             hard disks on which you plan to store online book files.
  516.  
  517.             Note:  If you need help with this or the following two items, move
  518.             the cursor to the item on which you need help and press F1.
  519.  
  520.         b.  Make sure that the directory named is correct.
  521.  
  522.         c.  Make sure that the configuration file or profile named is correct.
  523.  
  524.         d.  When you are satisfied that this panel is correct, press F10 to
  525.             install the IBM Library Reader or to update your IBM Library
  526.             Reader or BookManager READ.
  527.  
  528.     9.  When the installation program is done, the instructions on the screen
  529.         tell you either to shut down and restart your system or to start the
  530.         IBM Library Reader or BookManager READ.
  531.  
  532.         If you do not need to shut down your system, you can continue with
  533.         "Opening the IBM Online Library" in topic 2.2.
  534.  
  535.         If you must shut down and restart your system, do one of the
  536.         following:
  537.  
  538.         For OS/2 Version 2.0:
  539.  
  540.         a.  Click on your desktop (an unoccupied part of the screen).

  542.         b.  In the window that appears, select Shutdown

  544.         c.  When the shutdown is complete, restart your system by pressing
  545.             Ctrl+Alt+Del.

  547.         d.  When your system is running again, continue with "Opening the IBM

  630.     Install the SCRT on your host, then use it with Optical Media Attach/2 on

  641.     1.  Insert the CD-ROM from which you want to receive books into your
  642.         CD-ROM drive.

  644.     2.  Change to the drive letter that contains the CD-ROM.  For example, if
  645.         the drive letter is D, type:  d:

  647.     3.  Change to the directory that contains the SCRT.  Type:  cd \scrt
  648.  
  649.     4.  Start the SCRT.

  654.         Note:  Do not run the SCRT in more than one session at the same time
  655.                on an OS/2 workstation.

  662.     5.  Follow the instructions in the Setup Options window and in the windows

  665.     6.  After the SCRT receives the books you chose and you exit the SCRT, you
  666.         can replace the CD-ROM in the drive with another CD-ROM.

  668.     7.  Open the IBM Online Library.

  670.         The list of bookshelves will include the bookshelves you previously
  671.         received in addition to the bookshelves on the CD-ROM currently in the
  672.         CD-ROM drive.

  674.         Note:  You must have transferred the books and bookshelves into a
  675.                \BOOKS directory on a hard disk that is included in your
  676.                BookManager book and bookshelf search path.  If this directory
  677.                is not in the search path, you can run the IBM Library Reader
  678.                Installation program to update your configuration file.

  680.         If you received books without their bookshelves, you can do one of the
  681.         following:

  683.         *   Add the books to an existing personal bookshelf
  684.         *   Create a personal bookshelf for them
  685.         *   Go to an OS/2 or DOS prompt and type the following to open the IBM
  686.             Online Library and ask to see one of the books you received:
