  1.   This archive contains E-Racer/2, the worlds fastest duplicate file finder

  4.    E-Racer/2 features:

  6.  o Use E-Racer/2 to seek out and delete duplicate files anywhere on
  7.    your hard disk or network.  Save tons of disk space!

  9.  o E-Racer/2 uses advanced signature analysis to compare files.  It
  10.    can find duplicate files, even if you rename them!

  12.  o Works on FAT, HPFS and NTFS via Peer networking.  Long filenames are no 
  13.    problem!

  15.  o Native 32 Bit OS/2 application.  SMALL!  Less than 200k Executable

  93. free download on the web page.  There is also an online version of the
  94. E-Racer/2 manual in the page - select the E-Racer/2 link.

  96. Installation:
  97.  
  98.     Unzip ERACER2.ZIP into an empty subdirectory.  No special UNZIP command 
  99.     line parameters are needed.  Some of the files have EAs attached, but 
  100.     as of the 1.2 release, you won't lose anything if you use a DOS unzipper
  101.     that does not understand EAs.  You really should use an OS/2 unzipper 
  102.     though.
  103.  
  104.     When Unzipping has completed, run INSTALL.CMD from an OS/2 command line, 
  105.     or by double clicking on the icon.  INSTALL will create a folder with
  106.     the E-Racer/2 icon, a Netscape icon to access online help, and an 
  107.     information folder with all sorts of goodies in it.

  109.     To view an item in the information folder, just double click on it.  The 
  110.     OS/2 E.EXE editor should open the file and show it to you.

  114. Reinstallation/Upgrade
  115.     
  116.     To recreate the E-Racer/2 folder, just run INSTALL.CMD again.  You can
  117.     run it as many times as you want on an existing installation.

  119.     To upgrade to a new version, back up your old version in case something
  120.     goes wrong.  Alternativly, you can start a new ERACER2 subdirectory 
  121.     (different name or drive) and unzip the new release there.

  123.     unzip ERACER2.ZIP in an existing E-Racer/2 
  124.     install directory.  Use UNZIP -o ERACER2.ZIP (or the equivalent in your
  125.     unzipper}.

  127.     Delete your old E-Racer/2 folder
  128.  
  129.     Run Install again.  The E-Racer/2 folder will "point" to the new install.
  130.  
  131.     The new version of E-Racer/2 will inherit your old registration key, 
  132.     unless we do a major rewrite.  Bug fixes and feature enhancements 
  133.     are free.  If we do a major release, you will have to re-register.

  135. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
  136.  
  137.     Q. Whats with this claim that E-Racer/2 is the fastest on the planet?  Its 
  138.        going pretty darn slow here!
  139.  
  140.     A. If you have the Database set to R/W mode and scan a drive for the 
  141.        first time, it WILL go slow.  But *next time* it will scream.  Why?
  142.        When you first build the database, E-Racer/2 analyzes ALL the files
  143.        on the drive.  Next time it only analyzes the changed files.

  148.     Smart Viewer Associations not working when using default INI.  Fixed.
  149.     Cleaned up some glitches in dupe browser when user exits without 
  150.     deleting anything.

  153.     A user with lots of free memory and a large, but nearly empty swap 
  154.     file had a crash problem when opening the Setup Dialog page 1.  I wish

  179.     Added debug logging for people that want a list of all duplicate files
  180.     found.  It creates a file called DUMP.LOG that contains the list.  Previous
  181.     DUMP files are renamed DUMP.000, DUMP.001, DUMP.002...  If you use this 
  182.     feature, make sure you periodically delete the old ones- they are big!

  184.     Fixed the bug in the first setup page where you could not enter paths 
  185.     to search, even if you shut off all the drive letters.  You had to click
  186.     on some other cluster in the dialog to activate the path fields.  Now the
  187.     path fields activate as soon as all the drive letters are un-checked.

  189.     Renamed the product to E-Racer/2.  This avoids a conflict with an 
  190.     existing Windows product that does duplicate file deletion.  Dupefind
  191.     for Windows is not an IDK product, although we may develop one using the
  192.     same algorithm if there is enough interest.

  198.     Removed the Beta dropdead date.  The version 1.0 product will die on 
  199.     1 June 1998!  Registration numbers obtained for the 1.0 release will 
  200.     work just fine on the new version.  Just overwrite the EXE or re-run 
  201.     the installer that comes with the new version.
