This is an .ADD for ...
DOOM Version 1.2 .LMP Recorded Film Submissions
Here's a bunch of completed Multi/Three-Player (IPX) Net-DOOM .LMP
recordings of the First Episode of DOOM for you all to savour :-)
They should work with either of the "Free" or Registered releases
of that "non-windoze application", DOOM (tm) - Version 1.2...
Q. We've got some PC's networked together and have played Net-DOOM
on them. Will these recordings work over our network?
A. Probably, if you follow these instructions, they worked for us...
Q. I've got a PC that's networked. I've played DOOM but I've never
played Net-DOOM. Will these recordings work on my machine?
A. Probably, if you follow these instructions, they worked for me...
Q. I've got a PC and no it's not networked - it doesn't even have a
'Net card in it. I've played DOOM :-) but I've never even seen a
Network DOOM game :-( sniff. Will these recordings work on my PC?
A. Probably, if you follow these instructions, it worked for them...
Yes! Anyone out there who's got DOOM to work on their PC or PC's
should be able to view these these multi/three-player DOOM .LMP
recordings. I've not seen any more than the very occasional single
two-player (Ep1Lv1) .LMP recording nor have I seen any descriptions
of how this can be done out there on the internet so here goes...

Hi there John,
I thought this demo buffer was around about the 128K mark - but I've got one
multi-player .LMP file that's (just) over that at 131,840 bytes (and it works)
And while I'm here, Why does the game bomb when you exceed the time limit?
That's probably what's put everyone off trying to record multi-player .LMP
files. Someone has though ;-) Complete recordings of all nine levels of
Episode One in three-player mode are up on the "Official" DOOM (only) site
INFANT2.SPHS.INDIANA.EDU in /pub/doom/incoming file RAL3MAN.ZIP
should later be moved to /pub/doom/lmps
Would someone care to check them out ?

Hang on a mo. - "working on"... but it already works (if you try hard enough)!
It just doesn't work for very long...
1 player - 'bout 18 mins
2 players - 9 mins
3 players - 6 mins
4 players - 4 mins 30 sec - way too short
Yeah, more time would make it A LOT easier !!!

Currently it goes - poof (on all nodes) with some odd error mess. and no .LMP
file gets saved. Reboot all PC's involved before you try again.

Watch out for .LMP files larger than any .WAD file seen so far...

Try this...
If you used : IPXSETUP -devparm -nodes X <other parameters> -record filename
use : IPXSETUP -nodes X -playdemo filename ...on each of the X nodes, or
use : IPXSETUP -nodes 1 -playdemo filename (one-player Net-DOOM :-) try it
Note that the "filename" is without the ".LMP" extension
And the "filename".LMP did record successfully didn't it?
Don't use DOOM itself to replay multi-player .LMP files - it will crash the PC.
This may also be the same for SERSETUP sessions of DOOM - dunno, try it.
Good Luck, S

Subject: DOOM :- RAL3MAN.ZIP Multi-player .LMP Recordings

Keywords: doom lmp multi player net ipx setup
Just took a look at the DOOM ftp site - INFANT2.SPHS.INDIANA.EDU ...
Our "RAL3MAN.ZIP" has been moved from the "pub/doom/incoming" directory
and put into the much more appropriate "pub/doom/lmps" directory.
(Does this mean it's been "accepted" :-)
In case you were wondering...
RAL3MAN.ZIP is a collection of multi/three-player ".LMP" recordings
of each level (all successful) of the first episode of DOOM.
Almost everyone out there that can play DOOM should be able to view
these .LMP files whether you've got your own networks or not!
Also included is a rambling text file describing how it was all done
and how you could do the same, or similar, yourselves.
There are a few answers there as well as some questions.
Anyway, check 'em out - they're "unique"...
If you like them, then maybe we'll start on Episode 2.
Any comments 'bout them...?
S
ps it's 6 months since DOOM was originally released...
errmmm... A Happy "HALF A" Birthday to "DOOM" by id

Look out for 10,000,000 byte long .LMP recordings of entire episodes :-(
I hope there's loads of storage space out there on the NET...
Is this really such a good idea - Single level .LMP files would be much more
manageable and the only feature that would be missing is that you don't get to
keep your ammo - maybe just that could be fixed instead ie. let us save our
game positions at the end of the recording or at the end of the level.
Just a thought?

Yes, it is possible to record multiplayer .LMP files using DOOM ver 1.2 - but
only in Co-operative mode - it's not possible to record your deathmatches...
Still want input or should I keep quiet?
