DavCom -The actual program
The main program can only be run from the CLI, so IconX is used to launch
it from the WorkBench. Make sure IconX is present in the C: directory of
any disk you copy this to. Also, the program needs a large amount of
chip ram to operate in, so close down any other programs running if the
program will not load.
I have noticed in recent letters pages, some debate about the quality and
length of soundtracks for games. The biggest problem with sound quality is
the lack of memory. While the biggest problem with asthetic quality and
length is probably a lack of imagination. This is often noticable by the
use of looped samples as opposed to using each sample as an individual
instrument, the latter giving greater scope in avoiding repetition.
So here is my contribution, titled "Thrash", which is NOT an Acid House
track and hopefully lacks none of the above faults. The music data alone
is 120K which would make it suitable for title themes/loading screens only.
The length of the track is just over 4 minutes long, just right for the
standard rock/pop song of this type. I welcome your comments and hope you
enjoy listening to this song as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Now the graphics - Standard scrolly messages and copper bars are rather
mundane and useless so I've given you something to play around with.
Inspired by G. Thorntons' "Tunnel" (see ST/Amiga Format Issue 12), it's
called Cycledelic (sic), and provides an interactive light show. Just hit
those keys and relax!

F1 CYCLE IN/OUT -Switch constant direction of movement to in or out.
F2 BOUNCE ON/OFF -Switch random direction of movement on or off
(default=on).
F3 RANDOMISE ON/OFF -Switch random colour generation on or off
(default=off).
F4 RANDOM TYPE1/TYPE2 -Switch random colour type to 1 or 2
(default=1). Only operative when RANDOMISE=on.
F5 COLOUR ADD/SUBTRACT-Switch colour generation to addition or subtraction
(default=subtract). The difference between these
two is only noticable when RANDOMISE=off.
Subtraction is more subtle and gradual.
F6 SCREEN SWAP OFF -Switch any screen swap modes off and use the
currently displayed screen.
F7 SWAP TYPE 1 -Randomly display screens #1-4 at medium speed.
F8 SWAP TYPE 2 -Randomly display screens #5-12 at medium speed.
F9 SWAP TYPE 3 -Randomly display screens #1-12 at medium speed.
F10 SWAP TYPE 4 -Randomly display screens #1-12 at mega speed

1 to = -Use screen #1-12 as current display.
Note: screens #1-4 are the only 'true' screens, the
others being random composites from the first four,
which explains their slightly ragged appearance.

Q to R -Set colour range #1-4 over whole screen.
A temporary effect which is nice for introducing a
new range of cycling to the current pattern.
