mpega.library 2.4 WarpUP (08-Dec-1998) (603e+) (GIFTWARE)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Distribution Conditions
-----------------------
This program is copyright (c)1997-98 by Stephane TAVENARD and Steffen Haeuser
(principial copyright Stephane, WarpUP Version Steffen).
It may be distributed freely under the condition that no profit is
gained from its distribution, nor from any other program distributed
in the same package. The WarpUP port was done with the permission
of the main author Stephane Tavenard who was so kind to provide me
this great really easy portable source :)
People wishing to thank someone about this: The main work was still done
by Stephane Tavenard, he was the guy coding hours and hours... i only
did the WarpUP port, which was a question of around two afternoons :)
Permission is granted to distribute this package by Bulletin Board
systems or network sites, under the condition that no fee is charged
on downloading it.
All files that are part of this package have to be distributed
together and none of them may be changed in any way other than
archiving or crunching. The only exception to this rule are the
icons, including the tooltypes, which may be changed to accommodate
them to the rest of the disk it is distributed on.
This program is distributed as freeware (and giftware).
This version contains a bugfix of the mpega_int.library, which
did not work in the first released version. Now both int and
float versions run fine. On the PPC i suggest to use the float
versions anyways, as it has the better sound quality...
Disclamer
---------
This package is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind.
The author assumes no responsibility or liability whatsoever
for any damage or dataloss caused by using this package.
Requirements
------------
An Amiga :^)
A PowerPC Board
OS 3.0
WarpUP V3.1
WarpUP is a PPC Kernel for the Amiga. It is currently in the process
of replacing the technically inferior ppc.library as the PPC Standard
on the Amiga. You can download it from ftp.haage-partner.com/WarpUP
or from Aminet. There will be a new PPC Board using the G3 PPC soon,
which will only support WarpUP, and not ppc.library. This board is
expected to be 2-2.5x faster than the current PPC Boards. More info
on this Board - which uses 68k Emulation - is available on www.escena.de.
Description
-----------
To install it, just copy the mpega.library to libs: ... there is no split into
68k and PPC Part like with the ppc.library version, this library is a MixedBinary,
which contains both 68k and PPC Parts of the Library. It requires a PPC, if you
only have an 68k, you need to download the 68k version of mpega.library, not
this one...
The developper directory just contains the Includes to use mpega.library from
StormC.
The Lib can be used with any 68k or WarpUP MPEG Player supporting the mpega.library.
Note that players which include support for the ppc.library might cause trouble.
For example if you use AmigaAMP, delete the file AmigaAMP.elf before you start it.
If you still have problems, disable the ppc.library... it's "Anti-WarpUP" protections
caused problems on some systems in the past. Termination should fix this normally,
though. This LoadSeg-Patch is especially a problem with PPC-Shared-Libs, but
if you do not start ppc.library programs and have TERMINATOR set correctly,
like done by the Installer of WarpUP, no problems should appear.
Two libraries are included. The mpega.library uses the normal
decoding code, the mpega_int.library uses the (faster) Integer-Decoder.
The int-version is faster, but less accurate. If you want to use it, you
have to rename it to mpega.library. But as the PPC is fast enough i
suggest using the float-version :)
I have tested mpega.library WarpUP with:
- TMLG
- AmigaAMP 68k
- AMPlifier
They all ran really great :) (no more shell-based WarpAMP needed ...).
Enjoy it !
History
-------
V2.4 05.12.1999 Updated to latest (V2.4) mpega.library Source Code
Fixed Bug in internal file Loader
V2.0 29.11.1998 Released first version. Note that i already copied
a version to some people which is >100 KB Sized.
In this version i forgot to remove the debugging code,
and it is slow because of this. I now removed the
debugging code for the Final Release, and it runs
faaaaaast.
Credits

I want to thank Stephane Tavenard for both doing the great mpega.library
at all, and also for giving me the source-code to be able to do a WarpUP
port, so that we will also be able to use it with WarpUP and also later
with the Escena G3 Board, which will be WarpUP-only...
