- TRANSACTIONS
- ============
-
- All transactions except for Standing Orders are entered using the
- TRANSACTION form. The general layout of the form remains constant but
- parts change to suit the type of transaction being made. Data entry is
- best made from the top down. Common transactions can be stored and
- entered with one keystroke (see KEYSET).
-
- DATE
-
- The transaction date is set to todays date by default and can be
- changed thereafter to any date from 1Jan1988 by clicking select over
- the arrows, using adjust reverses the effect.
-
- FROM
-
- The 'from' account is entered next, this is the account from
- which money will go, or the only account in the transaction. The
- pointer will change to a menu type when over the 'from' account
- box, this indicates that a menu will appear when the mouse button(s)
- is clicked. This menu gives access to all the accounts currently known
- to the application, the appropriate account is simply entered by
- selecting it from the menu. Note that 'New' is available from each end
- sub-menu, new accounts are started by selecting 'New' from the
- appropriate account type sub-menu. This opens the NEW ACCOUNT window.
- Help on new accounts is available in the NEW ACCOUNT window.
-
- CURRENCY
-
- When an account has been selected into the 'from' box then
- it's currency appears in the box to it's right. Clicking over this box
- leads to a menu of known currencies. Selecting another currency from
- this menu will allow the transaction to be made in that currency. If
- another currency is used then the FOREX window will open next to the
- TRANSACTION window showing the exchange rates if known. To revert to
- the account's native currency simply select the account into the
- 'from' box again. Help on foreign currency transactions is available
- from the FOREX window.
-
- TRANSACTION TYPE
-
- The next box indicates the transaction type and again is menu driven.
- The menu that appears depends on the 'from' account. Most account
- types allow an 'Internal' transaction type to be entered. If this is
- done then the next ('to') box will be automatically filled in with
- 'Internal'. The exception is the 'Pay' type of accounts where 'Local'
- is used instead of 'Internal'. Basically all transaction types deduct
- money from the 'from' account and add it to the 'to' account. In
- Internal and Local transactions a choice of Credit or Debit is used
- but these can lead to other types which effectively do the same but
- enter different names into the transaction record for analysis
- purposes. The exception is 'Valuation' which merely allows a valuation
- of the account to be entered but does not add to the total. A full
- description of types appears at the end of this file. Selecting
- 'Amend' from these menus allows user named transaction types to be
- entered onto the menu structure. These will be 'Credit' or 'Debit'
- types depending on which menu the 'Amend' is selected from. Using
- 'Add' will add another type and 'Delete' will allow deletion of a
- current (user entered) type by selecting menu over the 'Delete' box
- and then selecting from it. Note that the basic types cannot be
- deleted.
-
- TO
-
- The 'to' account is where the money goes, again entered from a
- menu, new accounts can be started from here also. If the account is in
- a different currency from the account transaction currency then the
- FOREX window opens or changes to reflect this. Note that this currency
- cannot be changed here.
-
- AMOUNT
-
- The amount is entered next, this is in Pounds (or the appropriate
- currency), so £5.00 would be entered as 5.00, however it can also be
- entered as just 5. If more than 2 figures are entered beyond the
- decimal point then the amount will be adjusted to the nearest whole
- pence. The exception to this rule is when a valuation transaction is
- made on a share/unit account when the 'amount' box changes to a
- 'price' box and decimal pennies are accepted, so a price of £1.545
- would be entered as 1.545 and would be stored as such. A value of ZERO
- can be entered on any transaction but a blank entry will not be
- accepted.
-
- AMOUNT CALCULATIONS
-
- Calculations can be made within this entry box by entering a +,-,/ or
- * into the box in a logical manner, pressing the RETURN or ENTER key
- will then enter the result back into the box. Any results with
- decimal pence in them will be rounded to the nearest whole penny (or
- equivalent currency). For example entering 71/8 would give a result of
- 8.875 which will appear as 0.09 (£0.09).
-
- COMMENTS
-
- The last box is for comments, these are optional and are simply typed
- in, but a menu of common comments can be used by clicking the menu
- button over the box and selecting from previously entered menu
- entries. Selecting 'Amend' from this menu allows you to enter or
- delete comments from this menu simply by selecting 'Add' or 'Delete'
- then typing the new comment in (Add) or selecting the old comment for
- deletion from the current menu by clicking menu over the 'Delete' box.
-
- CONTROLS
-
- EXIT. This closes the window without actioning the transaction.
-
- CLEAR. This clears the transaction data without entering it.
-
- ENTER. This enters the transaction onto the accounts files.
-
- KEYSET. This allows complete or partially complete transaction data
- which has been entered normally to be stored for future use. It allows
- common transactions to be entered with one keystroke. Up to 8
- transactions can be stored against the FUNCTION KEYS f1-f8 which are
- selected from the menu when KeySet is clicked. Stored data is entered
- back into the open TRANSACTION window by pressing the appropriate key.
-
- TRANSACTION TYPES
-
- Listed here are the transaction type menu entries that are associated
- with the different accounts and appear on the original menu. Some
- cannot be deleted; you may delete others or add your own using 'Amend'
-
- AMENDING
-
- 'Amend' appears on transaction type menus, selecting this entry allows
- you to create your own type names for transactions, the effect of the
- transaction will be determined by the position on the menu from where
- you selected 'Amend'. For example if you selected 'Amend' from the
- 'Internal.Debit.' submenu whatever you called the new transaction it
- would have the same effect as any other 'Internal.Debit' type.

- and units), the value of the account is then computed using

-
- 1. entries that transfer money from this account without
- affecting the balance:
-
- -Transfer-this allows money to go from this account to
- another but does not deduct this amount from the
- balance (this allows the pay accounts to have a
- balance that builds up as you earn money even
- though you transfer it to the bank account. This
- makes analysis of your pay better!)-cannot be
- deleted
-
- 2. entries that deduct money from the account:
-
- -Deduct-this deducts the amount from the pay account to go to
- another account (to your Tax account probably!)
-
- 3. entries that affect this account only:

- display is open. These entries can only use the Internal transaction
- types.
