- Speaking Text
- =============
-
- The "Lips" button appears in the Article Viewer, Write News,
- and Write Mail windows. Click on it to start speaking from the
- cursor position. The cursor will follow the words as they are
- spoken. Click on the Lips button again to stop speaking.
-
- Once speaking has started, the ESCAPE key can also be used to
- toggle the speech on and off.
-
- If you click with the mouse anywhere in the text window, the
- cursor no longer follows the words as they are spoken. This allows
- you to edit the text and make corrections while speech is in progress.
-
- You can make the cursor resume following the speech by shift-clicking
- the Lips button.
-
- When reading an article, the signature is not spoken.
-
- An attempt is made to avoid speaking the "In article <message_id>" at
- the beginning of an article.
-
-
- Speech Options
- ==============
-
- Click with Adjust on the Lips button to open the Speech Options
- dialogue.
-
- Talk-as-you-Type.
- When this option is set, words are spoken as you type them. This can
- be useful for hearing your mistakes as you make them.
-
- Main Voice.
- Quotes Voice.
- Quotes (2nd).
- These options allow you to choose from the various voices which are
- available. These three voices are used to speak the various levels
- of quoting, which are shown on the screen as black, blue, and green,
- text respectively.
-
- Speak Title.
- When set, this causes the Title and Author's name (not email address)
- to be spoken first, if speaking is from the start of the article.
-
- Continue to Next.
- If set, then when the article has finished speaking, the next article
- is loaded, and that then starts speaking, starting with its Title.
-
- Continue to Next Unread.
- As above, but the next Unread article is loaded and spoken.
-
-
- Speech Speed
- ============
-
- To adjust the speed of the speech, use the voice editor !VoiceEdit to
- either change the speed of an existing voice, or to create a new voice
- with the required speed. (Not supplied with the demo version).
