  6. The "Make Subset" dialogue allows you to create a new Article List which
  7. contains articles which you have selected according to various
  8. search and selection criteria.
  9.  
  10. The "Make Subset" dialogue is invoked by choosing "Subset" from the
  11. Article List menu, or by pressing F4 in the Article List window.

  13. The fields in the Make Subset dialogue are as follows:

  17. Select All.
  18.    This simply selects all the articles in the Article List.
  19.  
  20. Search All.
  21.    This selects articles from the Article List which match the selection
  22.    criteria given below.

  24. Search Subset.
  25.    This selects articles from the Article List which are currently marked
  26.    as Selected (i.e. white on black lettering) and which also match the
  27.    selection criteria given below.

  31. The Selection Criteria:

  33. Categories.
  34.    Enter Category names in here, either by typing the names, or by clicking
  35.    with Menu to open the Category window, and adjust-clicking a Category in
  36.    that to add it to this field.
  37.    Articles which have ANY of the specified Categories will be selected.
  38.  
  39. String.
  40.    Enter a text string here.  Various fields of the articles are searched to
  41.    match with this string, and articles are only selected if a match is found.
  42.  
  43.    The # character can be used in this search string to indicate "any single
  44.    character".
  45.  
  46. Search ... Author ... etc.
  47.    These are the fields which are to be searched in the articles to look
  48.    for a match with "String".  The article is selected if a match is found
  49.    in ANY of the specified fields.

  51. Author
  52. Title
  53. Comment
  54. Keys
  55.    Search the Author, Title, Cmnt, Keys fields respectively of the articles'
  56.    headers.
  57.  
  58.    Note, the Cmnt and Keys fields will not be displayed in the Article
  59.    Viewer window if they are empty.  They can be revealed by clicking
  60.    on the Yellow Triangle button in the Article Viewer window.

  62. Body.
  63.    Search the main text of the articles (not including the internet
  64.    header).
  65.  
  66. N.Chars.
  67.    If this field is set, it restricts a search of the main text of the
  68.    articles to the first so many characters.
  69.  
  70. Internet headers.
  71.    If this option is set, then the internet headers (if present) of the
  72.    articles will also be searched.
  73.  
  74. Case Sensitive.
  75.    Matches with the search String are case insensitive, unless this option
  76.    is set. 
  77.  
  78. Date From.
  79.    Only search articles which have this date or later.  Earlier articles
  80.    will not be selected.  Dates must be given in the format:  01 Aug 97
  81.  
  82. Date To.
  83.    Only search articles which have this date or earlier.  Later articles
  84.    will not be selected.

  88. New.
  89.    Create a new article list which contains only those articles which
  90.    meet the search criteria.

  92. Keep.
  93.    Doesn't create a new list, but just keeps articles in the original
  94.    list which meet the search criteria.  The other articles, which don't,
  95.    are removed from the list.

  97. Drop.
  98.    Remove articles from the article list which meet the search criteria.
  99.  
  100. Add.
  101.    Add articles to the current article list from another specified list.
  102.    Only those articles from the other list which meet the search criteria
  103.    are added.  Type the name of the required article list into the "From"
  104.    field.  The name "All" indicates all articles in all document boxes.
