  13. OVERLOAD - what is it?

  16. This is a small playable demo of our second high quality budget game.
  17.  
  18. Overload is a fast, frantic arcade shoot-em-up! Powerful, varied weapons must
  19. be used to complete a series of missions over the action packed scrolling
  20. levels.
  21.  
  22. Whilst travelling through a small planetary cluster, you recieve an urgent
  23. distress message. Intelligent life does exist in this system! 
  24. You quickly despatch your explorer craft and set down on the first of the
  25. planets.
  26.  
  27. Gameplay takes place over a number of areas over the different planets of
  28. the system. Your task - to rescue the beings of the worlds and destroy the
  29. invading alien craft!  Along the way, you will encounter more fearsome
  30. invaders - only by learning how to use your varied weapons will you stand
  31. a chance!

  88.  Overload is compatible with all RISC OS machines, with all ARM types.
  89.  The game features automatic detection of CPU type, and will provide extra
  90.  StrongARM enhancements on newer machines!
  91.  
  92.  You can use Vertical Twist, "Acorn" or RTFM joystick interfaces,
  93.  and these are detected automatically when Overload is loaded.

  98.  If you experience any problems when loading Overload, make sure that no
  99.  other programs are loaded.

  101.  On a StrongARM machine, you should not load the Crunchfix module. Our code
  102.  uses the new StrongARM Native BASS cruncher, and the crunchfix module
  103.  clashes with the brand new version!  This is beyond our control
  104.  
  105.  Please note that Overload requires 2Mb RAM, and RISC OS 3.1 minimum.

  111. !SpeedCtrl
  112. ==========

  114.  With some types of monitors, games will run faster than they were designed.
  115.  !SpeedCtrl can be used on any RISC OS machine, and will slow down the
  116.  video update - slowing down the game to the correct speed.
  117.  
  118.  If you are running your machine on a low resolution monitor or a TV, then
  119.  there is no need for you to use !SpeedCtrl.
  120.  
  121.  To use !SpeedCtrl, simply:
  122.  
  123.  - double click on !SpeedCtrl to display the Speed Control Panel.
  124.    Here you can select 'Full', 'Half', 'TV', or 'User defined' framerate.
  125.   
  126.    Most games have been designed to run at 50Hz, but many monitors run at 60Hz, 
  127.    70Hz, 90Hz, and even 100Hz.
  128.    You should consult your monitor manual to determine the framerate for
  129.    Mode 13. Then select the appropriate option.
  130.  
  131.    For instance, if you are running Mode 13 at 100Hz, select 'Half Framerate'
  132.    If you are running Mode 13 at 70Hz, select 'TV'.
  133.    
  134.    'Full' and 'Half' framerates guarantee that the game runs perfectly smoothly.
  135.    'TV' and 'User defined' guarantee that it will run at a specified speed.

  137.  - to disable !SpeedCtrl simply reload : Full framerate is the default selection.

  139.  !SpeedCtrl is (C) Paradise 1998,1999,2000 but is freeware - so you may
  140.  distribute it freely.
