  24.   About Woodland Birds CD-ROM

  26.   The Woodland Series CD-ROM aims to equip students with a network of
  27.   ideas essential to the Life Sciences. By concentrating on one habitat
  28.   type, students are able to understand the complex relationship
  29.   between species and environment. Familiar species are seen as the
  30.   products of millions of years of evolution, precisely adapted to
  31.   exploit the resources of woodland habitats.

  33.   The Woodland Birds CD examines the wide variety of woodland habitats
  34.   that exist in modern Britain, and focuses on the 76 individual species
  35.   that make use of them. Over 350 high quality photos show the habitats,
  36.   and the birds at every stage of their lives: as eggs, nestlings,
  37.   fledglings and adults.

  40.   by over 100 songs and calls, plus maps, graphs and diagrams. The
  41.   simplest format: choosing a woodland habitat and then looking at the

  43.   children. Why should one species live in that habitat but not another?
  44.   The answers are on the CD-ROM. Older students can conduct in-depth
  45.   investigations, suggested by the teacher materials, using extensive
  46.   cross-referencing and index facilities. Topics include competition for
  47.   resources and territory-holding, the predator/prey relationship and
  48.   food chains.
