  46. II.  Introduction
  47. -----------------
  48.  
  49.     Just what is this The Front DOOM!  Well, do you have a lot of add
  50. on WAD (or rather PWAD) files.  You know how it is, you have to type in
  51. those long command lines in order to play.  Okay, once your passed that, the 
  52. game is loaded and your at the first level, only it's the normal one.  Not the 
  53. add-on you expected.  Well, off to search the episodes and levels for the
  54. modified game.  Sounds like a lot of work, doesn't it.  The Front DOOM! changes 
  55. all of that for you.  The Front DOOM! is an front end for DOOM.  The Front DOOM!
  56. allows you to choose the PWAD file to load, which level to start at, and then
  57. run DOOM.

  60. III.  Installation
  61. -----------------

  64.     The Front DOOM! requires no special directory or drive.  You may put it 
  65. in any directory you like.  The only requirement is that you also place the INI
  66. file in the same directory.

  68.     The FRNTDOOM.ZIP file should contain at minimum the following files:
  69.  
  70.     README.TXT - This file.
  71.     FRNTDOOM.EXE - The Front DOOM! program file.
  72.     FRNTDOOM.INI - The Front DOOM! configuration file.

  74.     FRNTDOOM.WAD - An Add-on Wad File brought to you by CDY Publishing!!!!

  76. ***  A suggested installation:
  77.     Make a directory for all of you PWAD files.  Make a directory for The Front
  78. DOOM!  Copy the PWAD files to the new PWAD directory and Copy FRNTDOOM.* to The 
  79. Front DOOM! directory.

  81. ie:    C:
  82.     MD\WADS
  83.     Change to the DOOM Directory. (CD\DOOM)
  84.     REN DOOM.WAD DOOM.BAK   ** This is so the DOOM.WAD won't be moved **    
  85.     MOVE *.WAD C:\WADS      (COPY *.WAD C:\WADS\[enter] DEL *.WAD[enter]  - for DOS 5 
  86.                                         and below)
  87.     REN DOOM.BAK DOOM.WAD
  88.     CD\
  89.     MD FRNTDOOM
  90.     COPY FRNTDOOM.* C:\FRNTDOOM\

  92.     (If FRNTDOOM.WAD is included in the compression file, place it in your wad directory.)

  97.     Once you have everything in place, you must edit the FRNTDOOM.INI file so that it
  98. reflects the proper directories.
  99. NOTE: (A % symbol is used to remark out lines.)

  101. ie: DoomDir=C:\DOOM or DOOMDIR = C:\GAMES\DOOM
  102.     AddOnDir=C:\WADS

  106. IV.  How to Use
  107. ---------------
  108.  
  109.     The program itself if very simple to use.  The mouse or the keyboard can be used
  110. to navigate the options.  
  111.  
  112. KEYBOARD COMMANDS:
  113.  
  114. Up Arrow    -  File selection bar up one.
  115. Down Arrow     -  File selection bar down one.
  116. PgUp        -  File selection bar up one page.
  117. PgDown        -  File selection bar down one page.
  118. Home        -  File selection bar to the first entry.
  119. End        -  File selection bar to the last entry.
  120.  
  121. E or e        -  Selects the Episode to play.
  122. L or l        -  Selects the Level to play.
  123. S or s        -  Selects the Skill Level to play.
  124. G or g          -  Selects a Saved Game. (Be Sure to either select the correct WAD file or
  125.                               choose No Add-Ons otherwise DOOM will CRASH...)
  126.  
  127. ?        -  Show's the PWAD's edited level.
  128. ESC        -  Exits The Front DOOM!
  129. ENTER        -  Plays the Highlighted file, at the selected episode, level, and skill.

  131. MOUSE COMMANDS:

  133. The mouse works like most other programs except for these differences:
  134.  
  135. Use the Right Mouse Button(RMB) on the up/down arrows to scroll one page up or down.
  136. Click the RMB on the highlighted file to see the PWAD's edited level.

  139.     Once you are done playing DOOM, you will return to The Front DOOM! to fight another battle!

  142. V.  Future Enhancements
  143. -----------------------

  145.     All future enhancements will be based on user response and support.  Some ideas in the works
  146. are:  Serial support, save game editing, editor program launching, and much more.
