- X-COM: Terror From The Deep
-
- 1. The benefit of hiring scientists and rapidly creating more living
- quarters outweighs the startup costs.
- 2. Be sure to get the engineers to work as fast as you can, and use
- the profit to buy needed equipment.
- 3. In dealing with creatures, know your monster, do research on
- specimens that you capture and interrogate medics to learn more about
- them.
- 4. Try to cover as much ocean as you can with your bases, meaning
- locate them right in the middle of the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans.
- 5. Defend the countries that are subsidizing your operation.
- 6. The location of your first bases should be in the middle of the
- Atlantic, in the North Pacific, the South Atlantic and then the South
- Pacific.
- 7. Create as many Listening Posts as possible to span the globe as
- fast as you can.
- 8. To bestow your listening points with Inception capabilities, add a
- Sub Pen, a Barracuda and General Stores.
- 9. For Command Bases, keep the best members of your crew at your main
- base.
- 10. With multiple bases have one base specialize in research and the
- other in technicians.
- 11. For your base layout, connect as little as possible to the access
- lift and subpens.
- 12. Get cash for all the unneeded things you've collected on your
- missions.
- 13. Sell weapons you don't need and remember you pick them up during
- missions anyway.
- 14. If there are aliens on the floor above you and are preventing you
- from using the only available elevator, then fire a thermal shock or
- disruptor pulse launcher straight up into the ceiling.
- 15. Don't spend money without thinking and try to anticipate your
- needs.
- 16. Try not to sell Aqua Plastics and Zribite.
- 17. In the beginning, fill your living areas with an additional ten
- scientists and ten soldiers.
- 18. Try to accumulate between 50 and 100 scientists.
- 19. Once your research is done, dump the scientists, saving about
- 50-75 to examine aliens.
- 20. If you've researched a weapon, follow up immediately with the
- ammo.
- 21. Try to put together a staff of 20 or more technicians.
- 22. For fresh recruits, the trick is to keep them alive so as to
- improve their experience.
- 23. If you're not pressed for recruits, get rid of the ones with low
- scores, especially in bravery and accuracy.
- 24. Create as many officers as you can, by, for example, using a
- squad of them to go after a weak alien ship.
- 25. Then spread the officers around to different squads.
- 26. At the start, arm your Seamen heavily.
- 27. That is, research armor and then make plenty of it, arm them one
- of each grenade, and later, a Chemical Flare for every soldier, a
- Medikit for every two soldiers and a Particle Sensor.
- 28. Always ensure that your soldiers are properly equipped for long
- missions.
- 29. For combat, one good tactic is to divide your squad into two or
- three teams and use them in concert with each other.
- 30. For seabed missions, divide your squad into small teams place
- them all over the place.
- 31. For the island attack, depose of the outlying enemies first, and
- then treat the central hotel as if it was an alien craft.
- 32. For cruise liners and cargo ships, divide your squad into teams
- and give each of them a different deck to deal with.
- 33. In alien constructions, watch the overhangs and balconies for
- snipers. Also be careful with grenades in the tight areas.
- 34. In all these missions, go during daylight whenever you can.
- 35. Always take Chemical Flares to night-time missions.
- 36. Keep tabs of the attributes of your soldiers by renaming them.
- 37. Although mission objectives are often explicit, don't hesitate to
- add to them by, for example, going after aliens or officers.
- 38. For long two-part missions, bring an adequate amount of ammo and
- enough medikits for all.
- 39. Take out alien submarines as soon as you begin to notice them so
- as to prevent them for gaining a foothold.
