  1. To install WinBoard and its companion version of GNU Chess, create a
  2. new directory and copy the following files to it:

  4.     WinBoard.exe
  5.     WinBoard.hlp
  6.     WinBoard.ini  (optional; edit as desired)
  7.     gnuchessx.exe
  8.     gnuchess.lang
  9.     gnuchess.data
  10.  
  11. Use the Program Manager to create an icon for WinBoard.exe, and set
  12. its working directory to the directory you created.  Besides looking
  13. for its companion files in this directory, WinBoard also loads and
  14. saves game and position files there.

  16. You can run GNU Chess without WinBoard if you like.  This gives you
  17. access to some features of GNU Chess that WinBoard does not provide an
  18. interface for.  See the file gnuchess.txt for documentation.
