When the hull is completed, the submarine can be rolled slowly out of the Hall cradled on a train of linked powered rail-mounted bogies positioned under the stands and with load-bearing pads jacked up to share the weight of the boat.
After emerging from the Hall, the submarine is given her name by a lady sponsor during the official naming and launching ceremony and a bottle of champagne or similar is broken on the hull to 'christen' the boat. The submarine is then powered onto the shiplift. Here, the bogies are removed.
The shiplift is then gently lowered into the Dock until the submarine floats off the cradle and the stands. The submarine can also be returned to the Hall if necessary by reversing this procedure;
FINAL OUTFITTING
All remaining outfitting is now carried out until every piece of equipment is in place and connected up and every room (compartment) on the boat has been finished off and cleaned; special overalls and overshoes must then be worn by anyone entering the cleaned compartments;
SYSTEMS TESTING AND HARBOUR ACCEPTANCE TRIALS
Making sure each system is working properly and then making sure the submarine is safe to dive and drive;
