  2. PMInfo - Print information about Page Setup and Styles in a PM 5.0 Document

  8. INTRODUCTION
  9.  
  10. PMInfo uses the PageMaker 5.0 script language and Windows DDE to extract and
  11. print page setup information and a complete description of all styles defined
  12. in a PageMaker 5.0 document.
  13.  
  14. PMInfo was writtem using Asymmterix Toolbook, and is distributed with the
  15. Asymmetrix Toolbook runtime modules.
  16.  
  17. To run PMInfo you need Windows 3.1 and Aldus PageMaker 5.0.

  20. INSTALLATION
  21.  
  22. 1. Unzip PMINFO.ZIP (zipped with PKZIP 2.04) into a directory on your hard
  23.    disk. The archive should contain the following files:

  26.    PMINFO.TBK     PMInfo application
  27.    PMINFO.TXT     This file

  39. 2. From the Windows Program Manager, create a program item:
  40.  
  41.    - Select "File|New", choose "Program Item" and click "OK"
  42.  
  43.    - In the "Description" field enter "PMInfo"
  44.  
  45.    - In the "Command Line" field enter "<path>\TBOOK.EXE <path>\PMINFO.TBK"
  46.      where path is the drive and directory where you unzipped PMINFO.ZIP.

  48.    - In the "Wroking Directory" field enter "<path>"

  50.    - Click on the "Change Icon" button, and select the icon from your
  51.      PageMaker 5.0 application.

  53.    Now you are ready to run PMInfo.

  56. RUNNING PMINFO
  57.  
  58. 1. Double-click on the PMInfo icon.
  59.  
  60. 2. By default, PMInfo uses the command line "C:\PM5\PM5.EXE" to run your
  61.    copy of PageMaker, and uses "C:\PM5" as the default initial PageMaker
  62.    document directory.

  64.    To change these values:
  65.  
  66.    - Select "Configure" from the "PageMaker" menu. You will be prompted for
  67.      new values which PMInfo will remember the next time you run it.
  68.  
  69.    - Exit from PMInfo. When prompted to "Save current changes to: PMINFO.TBK?
  70.      click on "Yes".

  72. 3. To get the page setup and style information from a PageMaker 5.0 document:
  73.  
  74.    - Select "Retrieve Stye Info" from the "PageMaker" menu.
  75.  
  76.    - A File Open dialog box is displayed, listing the *.PM5 documents in the
  77.      default PageMaker document directory. Select a file.
  78.  
  79.    - PMInfo runs PageMaker 5.0 with the document, and extracts the
  80.      information. Progress messages appear at the bottom of the screen.
  81.      Page setup information appears on the first page, followed by a separate
  82.      page for each style definition.
  83.  
  84.    - When all the information is extracted, you can use the "Page" menu to
  85.      naviagate through the pages. Each page has one large scrolling text
  86.      field. Use the scroll bar on the right to see more of the text.
  87.  
  88.    - To print the style information, select "Print Style Info" from the
  89.      "PageMaker" menu. You are prompted to print the current style or all
  90.      styles. Choosing "current" prints the style you are looking at; printing
  91.      all styles prints all styles and the page setup information. A report
  92.      will be sent to your default Windows printer.

  94.    - Select "File|Exit" to exit PMInfo.
