  2. Installing your STAR MICRONICS Printer Driver In Windows 3.1
  3. ------------------------------------------------------------------

  5. 1.  In the Main group, choose the <Control Panel> icon.
  6.  
  7. 2.  In Control Panel, choose the <Printers> icon.
  8.     The Printers dialog box appears. If you have never installed a
  9.     printer, the dialog box expands to display a list of printers
  10.     available in the Windows version 3.1 package, and the <Add>
  11.     button is unavailable. Go to step 4.
  12.  
  13. 3.  Choose the <Add> button.
  14.     The dialog box will expand to display the List Of Printers.
  15.  
  16. 4.  In the <List Of Printers> box, select - <Install Unlisted or
  17.     Updated Printer>.
  18.  
  19. 5.  Choose the <Install> button.
  20.     A dialog box appears, instructing you to insert the disk that
  21.     has the printer-driver file on it.
  22.  
  23. 6.  If the disk is in your A: drive, select the <OK> button. If
  24.     the disk is in a different drive, type the drive name and
  25.     then select the <OK> button. Example - if the disk is in the
  26.     B: drive, type 'B:\', without the quotes, and then select the
  27.     <OK> button.

  29. 7.  In the <List Of Printers> box, select the Star printer that you 
  30.     have.
  31.  
  32. 8.  Choose the <OK> button.
  33.     The <Printers> dialog box will appear. The Star printer that 
  34.     you selected is now listed in the <Installed Printers>
  35.     list.
  36.  
  37. 9.  Select the <Set As Default Printer> box.
  38.  
  39. 10. For instructions on how to configure your printer, Please see
  40.     Chapter 5, "Control Panel," in the "Microsoft Windows User's
  41.     Guide."

  43. 11. Choose the <Close> button.

  48. Installing TrueType Fonts in Windows 3.1

  51. 1.  In the Main group, choose the <Control Panel> icon.
  52.  
  53. 2.  In Control Panel choose the <Fonts> icon.  The Fonts dialog
  54.     box appears.
  55.  
  56. 3.  Click the <Add> button. The Add Fonts dialog box appears.
  57.  
  58. 4.  Put the TrueType disk in the disk drive.
  59.  
  60. 5.  Select the appropriate drive (Drives list box) for the fonts
  61.     on the TrueType disk. The fonts appear in the List of Fonts
  62.     box. Note that "TrueType" follows the font name.
  63.  
  64. 6.  Select the fonts you want to add. To select all the fonts,
  65.     click the <Select All> button.
  66.  
  67. 7.  Click <OK>. The Fonts dialog box appears. When installation is
  68.     complete, the fonts appear in the Installed Fonts list box.

  70. 8.  To make the typefaces appear in your application, reselect
  71.     your printer in Printer Setup in the application's file menu.

  76. ENABLING THE DIRECT TO PORT OPTION 
  77.        OF THE SJ-144 WINDOWS DRIVER
  78. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  79. An alternate "Print directly to port" driver has been included
  80. with this version of the driver.  This driver works only with 
  81. the SJ-144 printer and a 386SX processor or higher.  Please 
  82. note that this driver may not work with some specialized hardware 
  83. and software applications configurations. We recommend that you 
  84. make a copy of your SYSTEM.INI file before you begin.
  85.  
  86. 1.  Install the driver as described in the above section 
  87.     "Installing your STAR SJ-144 Printer Driver In Windows 3.1".
  88.  
  89. 2.  Exit Windows.  This change should not be run from the DOS
  90.      Prompt icon in Windows.  It is necessary to re-start Windows 
  91.      after the modification of the SYSTEM.INI file to allow the changes
  92.      will take effect.
  93.  
  94. 3.  Insert the diskette in the appropriate drive (A: or B:)
  95.     If the disk is in your A: drive, type 'A:". If the disk is in 
  96.     a different drive, type the drive name.  Example - if the disk
  97.     is in the B: drive, type 'B:', without the quotes.
  98.  
  99. 4.  To run the install program, type "INSTVPD" and follow the 
  100.     instructions on the screen. 
  101.  
  102. 5.  Re-start Windows.  For instructions on how to configure your
  103.     printer, Please refer to Chapter 5, "Control Panel," in the
  104.     "Microsoft Windows User's Guide."
  105.     
  106. This program searches the current path of the Windows directory
  107. for the SYSTEM.INI file and will make the required change. If the
  108. default virtual printer device is currently selected (i.e. the line
  109. 'device=*vpd.386') exists in the [386Enh] section, it will replace 
  110. it with 'device=vpd.386'to enable the new virtual driver.

  117. 1.  Insert the diskette into the disk drive.
  118.  
  119. 2.  Change to the drive that you inserted the diskette in by 
  120.     typing the drive letter followed by a colon.  Then press 
  121.     ENTER.
  122.     Example - If you inserted the diskette in the A drive, type
  123.     'A:' and then press ENTER.
  124.  
  125. 3.  Type INSTALL at the prompt and press ENTER.
  126.  
  127. 4.  Follow the instructions on the screen.
