  1. INSTALLING AN HP LASERJET 5L PRINTER DRIVER FOR LOTUS 1-2-3
  2. RELEASE 3.1, 3.1+ AND 3.4

  5.   INSTALLING AND SELECTING A PRINTER DRIVER
  6.      
  7.      After you have used HP's SETUP program to install your
  8.      printer driver, you need to use the steps listed below
  9.      to select and configure the printer driver.
  10.  
  11. CONFIGURING THE PARALLEL PORT
  12.      
  13.      We suggest including the following MODE command(s) in
  14.      your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  Consult your DOS manual for
  15.      more information about the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  16.      
  17.      Enter the following command in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
  18.      
  19.      MODE LPTx:,,P
  20.      
  21.      (Where x = the computer's parallel port; for example,
  22.      LPT1, LPT2, etc.)
  23.  
  24. PRINTER DRIVER CHOICES FOR THE HP LASERJET 5L PRINTER
  25.      
  26.      The following printing options are available in Lotus 1-
  27.      2-3 Release 3.1, 3.1+ and 3.4.
  28.  
  29.      1.   You can print using the HP LJ 4 SERIES(PCL5 WYSIWYG)
  30.           printer driver that shipped with your printer.
  31.      
  32.      2.   You can print using the non wysiwyg -- HP LJ 4 SERIES
  33.           (/PRINT) -- driver  which can utilize setup
  34.           strings and handle multiple ranges on a page as
  35.           well as produce the fastest output.
  36.  
  37. SETTING UP YOUR HP LASERJET 5L PRINTER
  38.      
  39.      Setting up your HP LaserJet 5L printer with Lotus 1-2-3
  40.      release 3.1, 3.1+ and 3.4 is a two-step process:
  41.  
  42.      1.   Installing the printer driver.
  43.      
  44.      2.   Selecting the printer driver in Lotus 1-2-3
  45.           release 3.1, 3.1+ and 3.4.
  46.      
  47.      It is important that you follow the instructions in the
  48.      section entitled "Selecting the HP LaserJet 5L WYSIWYG
  49.      Printer Driver" before you attempt to print a document
  50.      from Lotus 1-2-3 release 3.1, 3.1+ and 3.4.

  52.   SELECTING THE HP LASERJET 5L WYSIWYG PRINTER DRIVER
  53.      
  54.      Use the following steps to finish installing the HP
  55.      LaserJet 5L printer driver which shipped with your
  56.      printer.
  57.  
  58.      1.   At a DOS prompt, type CD\ followed by the name of
  59.           the subdirectory where Lotus 1-2-3 is loaded (for

  61.           example, CD\123r34) to change to the Lotus 1-2-3
  62.           subdirectory, then press [Enter].
  63.  
  64.           At the DOS prompt, type LOTUS and press [Enter] to
  65.           bring up the "Lotus 1-2-3 Access Menu."
  66.      
  67.           Use your cursor keys to select  INSTALL on the
  68.           "Lotus 1-2-3 Access Menu," then press [Enter] to
  69.           run the INSTALL program.
  70.      
  71.      2.   Read the instructions on the LOTUS INSTALL PROGRAM
  72.           screen, then press [Enter].
  73.      
  74.      3.   Select CHANGE SELECTED EQUIPMENT, then press [Enter].
  75.      
  76.      4.   Select MODIFY CURRENT DCF, then press [Enter].
  77.      
  78.      5.   Select CHANGE SELECTED PRINTER,  then press
  79.           [Enter].

  81.      6.   Select HP on the list of printers, then press
  82.           [Enter].
  83.      
  84.      7.   Select HP LJ 4 SERIES(PCL5 WYSIWYG), then press [Enter].
  85.      
  86.      8.   From the SELECT AN HP LJ OPTION menu, select your
  87.           desired size, for example LETTER (8.5" x 11"),
  88.           then press [Enter].
  89.           
  90.           NOTE:     To select additional printers
  91.                     repeat steps 5 through 8.
  92.                     You should install the 
  93.                     HP LJ 4 SERIES(PCL5 WYSIWYG)
  94.                     for each optional size of
  95.                     paper you will be using.
  96.                     It recommended that you also
  97.                     install the HP LJ 4 SERIES(/PRINT)
  98.                     driver.  Press F10 to display
  99.                     a list of installed printers.
  100.      
  101.      9.   Select  RETURN TO MENU, then press [Enter].
  102.      
  103.      10.  Select SAVE CHANGES, then press [Enter].
  104.      
  105.      11.  Read the instructions on the NAMING YOUR DCF
  106.           screen, then press [Enter].
  107.      
  108.      12.  Read the instructions on the GENERATING FONTS
  109.           screen, then press [Enter].
  110.      
  111.      13.  Select the set of font sizes you want to use with
  112.           WYSIWYG on the GENERATING FONTS menu.  Choose
  113.           "BASIC," "MEDIUM," or "EXTENDED" depending on the
  114.           font sizes you need and the amount of disk space
  115.           you have available.  The box on the GENERATING
  116.           FONTS menu gives information about disk-space
  117.           requirements.

  121.           NOTE:     "Basic" gives a maximum font
  122.                     point size of 24, "Medium" a
  123.                     maximum font point size of 36,
  124.                     and "Extended" a maximum font
  125.                     point size of 72.  The larger
  126.                     the set of fonts, the more
  127.                     disk space will be required.
  128.  
  129.      14.  After you select the font set, press [Enter].
  130.      
  131.      15.  A GENERATING FONTS screen will display while fonts
  132.           are being generated.  When font generation is
  133.           complete, press any key to end Install.
  134.  
  135.      16.  Select END INSTALL PROGRAM, then press [Enter].
