INSTALLING AN HP LASERJET 5L PRINTER DRIVER FOR LOTUS 1-2-3
RELEASE 3.1, 3.1+ AND 3.4
INSTALLING AND SELECTING A PRINTER DRIVER
After you have used HP's SETUP program to install your
printer driver, you need to use the steps listed below
to select and configure the printer driver.
CONFIGURING THE PARALLEL PORT
We suggest including the following MODE command(s) in
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Consult your DOS manual for
more information about the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
Enter the following command in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
MODE LPTx:,,P
(Where x = the computer's parallel port; for example,
LPT1, LPT2, etc.)
PRINTER DRIVER CHOICES FOR THE HP LASERJET 5L PRINTER
The following printing options are available in Lotus 1-
2-3 Release 3.1, 3.1+ and 3.4.
1. You can print using the HP LJ 4 SERIES(PCL5 WYSIWYG)
printer driver that shipped with your printer.
2. You can print using the non wysiwyg -- HP LJ 4 SERIES
(/PRINT) -- driver which can utilize setup
strings and handle multiple ranges on a page as
well as produce the fastest output.
SETTING UP YOUR HP LASERJET 5L PRINTER
Setting up your HP LaserJet 5L printer with Lotus 1-2-3
release 3.1, 3.1+ and 3.4 is a two-step process:
1. Installing the printer driver.
2. Selecting the printer driver in Lotus 1-2-3
release 3.1, 3.1+ and 3.4.
It is important that you follow the instructions in the
section entitled "Selecting the HP LaserJet 5L WYSIWYG
Printer Driver" before you attempt to print a document
from Lotus 1-2-3 release 3.1, 3.1+ and 3.4.
SELECTING THE HP LASERJET 5L WYSIWYG PRINTER DRIVER
Use the following steps to finish installing the HP
LaserJet 5L printer driver which shipped with your
printer.
1. At a DOS prompt, type CD\ followed by the name of
the subdirectory where Lotus 1-2-3 is loaded (for

example, CD\123r34) to change to the Lotus 1-2-3
subdirectory, then press [Enter].
At the DOS prompt, type LOTUS and press [Enter] to
bring up the "Lotus 1-2-3 Access Menu."
Use your cursor keys to select INSTALL on the
"Lotus 1-2-3 Access Menu," then press [Enter] to
run the INSTALL program.
2. Read the instructions on the LOTUS INSTALL PROGRAM
screen, then press [Enter].
3. Select CHANGE SELECTED EQUIPMENT, then press [Enter].
4. Select MODIFY CURRENT DCF, then press [Enter].
5. Select CHANGE SELECTED PRINTER, then press
[Enter].
6. Select HP on the list of printers, then press
[Enter].
7. Select HP LJ 4 SERIES(PCL5 WYSIWYG), then press [Enter].
8. From the SELECT AN HP LJ OPTION menu, select your
desired size, for example LETTER (8.5" x 11"),
then press [Enter].
NOTE: To select additional printers
repeat steps 5 through 8.
You should install the
HP LJ 4 SERIES(PCL5 WYSIWYG)
for each optional size of
paper you will be using.
It recommended that you also
install the HP LJ 4 SERIES(/PRINT)
driver. Press F10 to display
a list of installed printers.
9. Select RETURN TO MENU, then press [Enter].
10. Select SAVE CHANGES, then press [Enter].
11. Read the instructions on the NAMING YOUR DCF
screen, then press [Enter].
12. Read the instructions on the GENERATING FONTS
screen, then press [Enter].
13. Select the set of font sizes you want to use with
WYSIWYG on the GENERATING FONTS menu. Choose
"BASIC," "MEDIUM," or "EXTENDED" depending on the
font sizes you need and the amount of disk space
you have available. The box on the GENERATING
FONTS menu gives information about disk-space
requirements.

NOTE: "Basic" gives a maximum font
point size of 24, "Medium" a
maximum font point size of 36,
and "Extended" a maximum font
point size of 72. The larger
the set of fonts, the more
disk space will be required.
14. After you select the font set, press [Enter].
15. A GENERATING FONTS screen will display while fonts
are being generated. When font generation is
complete, press any key to end Install.
16. Select END INSTALL PROGRAM, then press [Enter].
