  9. The following describes the procedure for installing the protected-mode
  10. NDIS 3 (EL90X.386) driver or real-mode NDIS 2 (EL90X.DOS) driver under 
  11. Windows for Workgroups (WFW). 
  12.  
  13. NOTE: It is assumed that WFW has already been installed.
  14.  
  15. 1.  Start Windows.
  16.     
  17. 2.  Open the Network group and double-click Network Setup.
  18.  
  19. 3.  Click on the Networks... button in the Network Setup window.
  20.  
  21. 4.  Choose install Microsoft Windows Network.
  22.  
  23. 5.  Make sure that No Additional Network is selected in the
  24.     submenu. Click OK.
  25.  
  26. 6.  If you would like to share your files or printers with other 
  27.     users on the network, click the Sharing... button.
  28.     After checking the appropriate boxes, click OK.
  29.     
  30. 7.  To install the driver for the NIC, click the Drivers... button.
  31.  
  32. 8.  In the Network Drivers window, click the Add Adapter...
  33.     button.
  34.  
  35. 9.  From the Network Adapter list, select Unlisted or Updated Network
  36.     Adapter and then click OK.
  37.  
  38. 10. Network setup now requires the vendor-provided network driver diskette.
  39.     Insert the EtherDisk diskette #2 in drive A: and type the following 
  40.     path for the location of the NDIS driver:
  41.     
  42.     A:\WFW311
  43.     
  44.     Click OK.
  45.  
  46. 11. From the Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter screen, highlight
  47.     3Com Fast EtherLink XL/EtherLink XL NIC (3C90X) and click OK.
  48.     The Network Setup screen now lists the NIC, along with the 
  49.     default protocol stacks:
  50.     
  51.     3Com Fast EtherLink XL/EtherLink XL NIC (3C90X) (NDIS 2/NDIS 3)
  52.        IPX/SPX Compatible Transport with NetBIOS
  53.        Microsoft NetBEUI
  54.        
  55. 12. If you want to use the NDIS 3 driver skip, to step 14. If you 
  56.     want to use the NDIS 2 driver, click the Setup... button in the
  57.     Network Drivers window.
  58.     
  59. 13. To select the NDIS 2 real-mode driver, click the down arrow under 
  60.     Driver Type and select Real Mode NDIS Driver. Then click OK.
  61.  
  62. 14. Click Close in the Network Drivers window to accept these settings
  63.     and then click OK in the Network Setup window to start the 
  64.     installation.
  65.  
  66. 15. At this point WFW may give you a chance to supply or change your 
  67.     username, workgroup and computer name.  
  68.     If your network administrator supplies you this information, use it.
  69.     If not, you can create this information 
  70.     yourself.  When you are finished, click OK.
  71.  
  72. 16. The Windows Setup program may ask if you want to replace the Enhanced 
  73.     Mode Protocol Manager with the version you are installing now.
  74.     Click Yes to All.
  75.  
  76. 17. If the Windows Setup program asks for the NDIS.386 file,  insert
  77.     Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 Disk 7 and click OK.

  79. 18. If prompted for the EL90X.386 driver, insert the 3Com EtherDisk
  80.     diskette #2 in the A:\ drive. Type the following path to load the 
  81.     NDIS 3 driver:

  83.     A:\WFW311

  85.     Click OK.

  87. 19. If prompted for the EL90X.DOS driver, insert the 3Com EtherDisk 3
  88.     diskette in the A:\ drive. Type the following path to load the 
  89.     NDIS 2 driver:

  91.     A:\NDIS2\DOS
  92.     
  93.     Click OK.
  94.  
  95. 20. The Windows Setup Program may modify the PROTOCOL.INI, SYSTEM.INI
  96.     and AUTOEXEC.BAT files.  WFW saves the old versions with the
  97.     extension .001, where the number is incremented every time a new
  98.     version of the file is generated. Click OK.
  99.  
  100. 21. When prompted, restart the computer.
