  20. I.    SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  22. 1.  PC 486 and above with 16 MB RAM.
  23.  
  24. 2.  Microsoft Windows« 95/98 or NT4.0 (USA).

  26. 3.  Full installation: 100 MB hard disk space.
  27.     Minimal installation: 5 MB hard disk space.

  30. II.   INSTALLATION
  31.  
  32. 1.  Insert the CD-ROM in the appropriate drive.
  33.  
  34. 2.  Click Start on the Windows taskbar and select Run.
  35.  
  36. 3.  Type d:\WNW\setup.exe and click OK. If your CD-ROM is
  37.     in a drive other than d:, substitute the appropriate
  38.     letter in the command, for example e:\WNW\setup.exe.
  39.     Follow the instructions on the screen.
  40.  
  41. 4.  Webster's New World Dictionary and Thesaurus setup asks 
  42.     if you want to copy all files to your hard disk. 
  43.     For a full installation, choose Yes. The entire program 
  44.     is copied to your hard disk, and you can run the program 
  45.     whenever you want. For a partial installation, choose No. 
  46.     Only a small portion of the program is copied to your hard 
  47.     disk, while the data files remain only on your CD-ROM. To 
  48.     run the program with a partial installation, the CD-ROM must
  49.     be in the drive.

  52. III.  GETTING STARTED
  53.  
  54. During setup, you have an option to run Webster's New
  55. World Dictionary and Thesaurus every time you run Windows. 
  56. If you chose this option, Webster's New World Dictionary 
  57. and Thesaurus should be active whenever you run Windows. 
  58. If you did not choose this option, click Start and choose 
  59. Programs | WNW Dictionary & Thesaurus | WNW to run Webster's 
  60. New World Dictionary and Thesaurus.

  63. IV.   DELETING WEBSTER'S NEW WORLD DICTIONARY AND THESAURUS 
  64.       FROM THE STARTUP MENU
  65.  
  66. 1.  Click Start | Settings | Taskbar on the Windows taskbar.

  68. 2.  Select Start Menu Programs.
  69.  
  70. 3.  Click Remove.

  72. 4.  Double-click Start-Up and select WNW.

  79. 1.  Close Webster's New World Dictionary and Thesaurus.

  81. 2.  Click Start | Settings | Control Panel on the Windows 
  82.     taskbar.

  84. 3.  Double-click Add / Remove Programs.

  86. 4.  Select WNW Dictionary & Thesaurus and click Add / Remove.

  88. 5.  Windows displays the following message: "Are you sure
  89.     you want to remove the selected application and all of its 
  90.     components?" Click Yes.

  95. If you need to run Webster's New World Dictionary and 
  96. Thesaurus's setup a second time, be sure to uninstall 
  97. the program first.

  100. VII.  TROUBLESHOOTING

  102. USING WEBSTER'S NEW WORLD DICTIONARY AND THESAURUS'S 
  103. TEXT GRABBING SYSTEM
  104.  
  105. Webster's New World Dictionary and Thesaurus uses 
  106. Accent Software International's text-grabbing system 
  107. to let you look up words from other programs by clicking 
  108. or pointing to them with your mouse. In the following instances, 
  109. the text-grabbing system may not capture text:
  110.  
  111. *  You are trying to select a menu item in most 
  112.    Windows 95 application.
  113.  
  114. *  You are trying to select words in an application
  115.    that uses non-standard Windows 95 functionality
  116.    or graphics for text display, such as CorelDraw 8.
  117.  
  118. In these instances, you can still use Webster's 
  119. New World Dictionary and Thesaurus by choosing 
  120. words manually in the Webster's New World Dictionary 
  121. and Thesaurus main window.

  123. USING WORD 6
  124.  
  125. In this version of Webster's New World Dictionary 
  126. and Thesaurus, if you are using the program
  127. with Word 6, the Webster's New World Dictionary 
  128. and Thesaurus custom dictionary will not be installed 
  129. as a Word custom dictionary.

  132. VIII. NEW FEATURE - WILD CARD SEARCH
  133.  
  134. When doing a database search for a word you can 
  135. use "wild cards". An asterisk ("*") will match any
  136. sequence of zero or more letters; a question mark 
  137. ("?") will match any single letter. For example
  138. "diction*" will find both "diction" and "dictionary".
  139. "comput?" will find "compute" but not "computer".
