  4. Where We Came From:
  5.  
  6. SYSOPS_138 grew out of a desire for all Net 138 Sysops to have a secure
  7. place to come and discuss any net- or computer-related topic, in an
  8. atmosphere of cordiality and mutual respect, free from threat of personal
  9. attack or disparagement.

  12. Membership Requirements:
  13.  
  14. - Any nodelisted Sysop in Net 138 is eligible to read and post in this echo.
  15.  
  16. - Co-sysops will be allowed only with the moderator's advance permission.
  17.   They should identify themselves in each post so others know what board
  18.   they are associated with.
  19.  
  20. - No user access on any BBS is permitted, either read or write.
  21.  
  22. - The echo is to be hubbed ONLY by myself and the designated distribution
  23.    hubs.  It is not to be sent out of Net 138 under any circumstances,
  24.    by EITHER hubs or nodes!  It is also not to be sent to downlinks without
  25.    moderator permission, by either hubs OR nodes!  The moderator WILL be
  26.    kept advised of any nodes receiving this echo from your system.

  31. - Any net- or computer-related post is fine, as are brief personal notes, etc.

  33. - The only other things off-topic are covered in "Rules" below.

  36. Moderator:

  38. I've moderated a backbone echo for some time, and have some experience deal-
  39. ing with rules violations.  However, IF ALLOWED, I plan to moderate this
  40. echo VERY loosely.  I don't plan to assert myself in any way unless forced,
  41. and in general I will appear to be an ordinary user.  In an ideal world, my
  42. only "official" action would be to occasionally post these rules.

  44. In my experience, this kind of echo moderation leads to mature, friendly
  45. discussion, and that's what I want here.

  48. Rules:

  50.             Because of my philosophy, there is only 1 Echo Rule
  51.                     (But See Absolute Rules Below)

  53.                                THE RULE:
  54.  
  55.                      Flaming of any kind is banned
  56.  
  57. That's it... no more rules.  Definition: "Flaming" means personal attacks on
  58. anyone in or out of the echo.  It goes without saying that you should not use
  59. language that may be offensive to others.  Everyone here is adult enough to
  60. define that themselves.  Discussing someone's ancestry, etc. will be taken to
  61. netmail, or we can revive 138.FLAME, whichever.  But there will be NO flaming
  62. in this echo!  Violators will be dragged into the street and SHOT or,
  63. if that doesn't work, their feed will be cut.

  65. Because I don't cut people without extreme provocation, any hub asked to
  66. cut a downlink will please do so immediately & without question.  If you're
  67. not up to this, please contact me now about other arrangements for hubbing.
  68. Almost always, any feed cut will be temporary, to make a point.
