RULES OF THE INTERNATIONAL HOCKEY ECHO
Reader's digest of rules:
- Any non-videogame hockey topic acceptable
- Be nice. Personal insults are not acceptable.
- Have fun.
- no high-ascii, ansi codes, or big signature files.
BORING LONG VERSION OF RULES
1) PURPOSE: The HOCKEY echo is for the discussion of hockey of all
varieties, although focus is given to ice-hockey. Ball hockey, roller
hockey, and derivative sports are acceptable topics. Any level of play is
open to discussion - although it is expected that most topics will center
on the play of the National Hockey League and international events.
2) VIDEOGAMES: are NOT on-topic.
3) CONDUCT: There shall be no insults of other users. Given that some
fans are somewhat sensitive about their teams, posters are reminded that
some jests are all in good fun, and to respond appropriately. Insults
directed at a poster (called "Flames") are not acceptable.
a) Only a moderator (referee) shall deal with off-topic material.
b) Moderators are like referees. You play by the rules, they
stay out of the game....
4) PROHIBITED: BBS ads and commercial postings for any service not
related to hockey. Those entries related to hockey may be deemed off-topic
upon review.
5) CONTENT: Due to the nature of some mail-handling software, high-bit
ASCII is not permitted in this echo at this time. Those with SIGs are
reminded that this is an international echo: some folk collect the echo via
long-distance and others may live in areas where per-minute charges for
phone connections exist. Consequently, posters are requested to avoid long
post-message signature files. (SIGS).
a) English is the official language of the echo, but attempts
may occasionally be made to mangle French for your convenience.
b) Those persons using handles as part of their normal BBSing are
requested to append their real name to their messages.
c) Conversations which might best be held in a private forum, or
which stray from being on-topic are best moved to NETmail. (Ask
your sysop about netmail access.)
d) Do not overquote.... grumbles will occur if you add "I agree!"
after quoting 20 lines of text. (Control-Y usually deletes
unwanted lines in most editors/offline readers.) But, on the
other hand:
e) It is requested that you add at least a representative portion
from the message to which you're responding. This "quote" will
aid others in recalling the thread, or making responses.
6) WARNINGS: (Sitting in the Sin Bin) The HOCKEY echo exists on a
three-strikes principle. Warnings will be sent via PRIVATE NETMAIL, or
internet e-mail if addresses are made known in a post. Consequently -
JUST BECAUSE THERE IS NO OBVIOUS ACTION BEING TAKEN IN PUBLIC, readers
should not assume that the moderator(s) are having a nap.
a) Penalties will be handed out
7) DISTRIBUTION: The content of the HOCKEY echo may not be
distributed to any other mail-handling network without permission of the
moderator(s).
8) QUESTIONS: Regarding moderation, complaints and request for
discipline may be directed to the moderator(s):
FIDO: Vern Faulkner, 1:340/44.
BBS: Fox and Dragon Inn, 1-250-472-2175: Victoria, B.C., Canada.
INTERNET: vern@widow.spydernet.com or
vern.faulkner@f44.n340.z1.fidonet.org
Additional moderator is being sought at this time.
9) RULES: Suggestions for changes to the rules may also be made in
private netmail at the above addresses.
a) Changes to the rules will in general adhere to a democratic
concept. In short, what the readers/posters want, they'll get.
