RULES
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
1. Real names are REQUIRED in message headers. If you can't use your
real name, you don't belong in this echo.
2. The official language of the echo is English.
3. Encrypted messages of any type are not permitted in this echo.
This is a violation of FidoNet policy and may result in immediate
termination of access without warning. Encoded files are not
permitted either. There are several free e-mail services, use
them to distribute files, or upload them to a BBS. If there is
a file you would like distributed, see the information on 3d-fdn
located at the end of this document. Exception: PGP signatures
are permitted at the end of a message.
4. Any discussion of religions, favorable or unfavorable, is
off-topic. If you can't accept the fact that some anti-religious
symbols may appear in some games, you don't belong here.
5. If you wish to boast about your skill in deathmatch, and someone
challenges you to a deathmatch, you have one week from that date
to either (1) play them and win or (2) cease boasting in the echo.
6. Obscenity, profanity, and flaming is forbidden. Posting of high
characters is also expressly forbidden, they are a general
annoyance, and ANSI graphics can become garbled, and some programs
can't display them anyway!
7. Discussions and comparisons of any hardware-related items are
off-topic, unless they are related to comparisons of frame rates
on different machines in Doom. This applies to operating systems
as well. Excessive discussion may be considered off topic at
the discretion of the moderators.
8. Limit quoting in messages to that portion necessary to keep the
thread. This means don't quote back tag lines, origin lines, or
the parts of the message you don't want to respond to. It's just
common sense!
9. Commercial or "for sale" messages of any kind are forbidden.
Likewise, BBS advertisements are not permitted. There are
many different echos to post those types of messages in, so
please and don't post your ads here! Press releases are permitted
with prior moderator approval only. If you have something you
feel everyone should see, send it to me for approval.
10. All users of this echo must read these rules and abide by them.
Questions and comments about moderating actions must be sent by
netmail or internet e-mail. The addresses are above, and are
also seen at the bottom of official messages posted in the echo.
When in doubt, check your nodelist! Participating in this
conference means you have read these rules and agree to abide
by them. If you wish to debate the rules, do it privately. If
you wish to debate them in the echo, you will be ignored, and
your message ruled as off topic! Debating the rules in the echo
is cause for immediate termination of access to the echo. These
are also subject to modification without prior notice. If you
are unsure about something, feel free to ask about it or ask for
a repost.
11. To everyone: if you see a message that's obviously going to be
moderated, do everyone else a favor and don't reply to it, no
matter how stupid it is. It saves time and cuts down on traffic.
However, if you can find a way to turn an off topic message into
an on topic discussion WITHOUT MODERATING IT, please feel free to
do so.
12. This isn't a rule, but more of a note to everyone. Some games
such as Quake and Descent have their own echos, and there is a
general echo for Apogee games. You can discuss those games in
here, but if you are really having trouble with things, you'll
probably have better luck in one of those more specific areas.
13. I am sick of having to explain myself and waste bandwidth by posting
warning after warning. Make sure you read rule number 10 and the
infractions section below. You will be warned once, then netmailed,
then banned. All users should pay attention to official messages
posted in the echo, even if they are not addressed to them or to
ALL. All official messages made by myself or a co-moderator will
be signed with something like "..... moderator..." or "...
co-moderator...".
REMINDER: Debating the rules with the moderator or co-moderators is not a good
idea. If you do it in the echo, a note regarding your actions will
be sent immediately to your sysop. If you are a sysop, you will be
warned, then your hub will be notified.
DEALING WITH INFRACTIONS
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Infractions of the rules posted above will be dealt with in the following
manner:
(1) I'll remind you of the rules and ask you not to do it again.
(2) I'll remind you of the rules again, and I'll netmail your sysop
to tell him/her what's up. A copy of the rules will also accompany
in netmail to you for your reading enjoyment.
(3) 'Bye.
(4) If at any time a sysop refuses to comply with the moderator, their
feed for the echo will be severed until which time that they can
represent themselves responsibly.
Note: the moderator reserves the right to determine the severity of
any/all infractions and take any appropriate action, up to and
including immediate unannounced expulsion from the echo. Co-moderators
do not have immediate power to frag people on sight, however, if through
due process you have been warned more than once, they may suspend/terminate
your access to the echo.
PURPOSE
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
* The original intent of this echo was for the discussion of the game
Doom. Since the Doom-type game has become so popular, other games
have been released. Discussion of such is permitted, use your own
judgment. Games should be similar to Doom, however, Lucasarts games
are the only exception.
