  21. less than once per month, and nothing in these rules will supersede or
  22. replace any valid FidoNet rule or policy!

  24. PURPOSE:

  26. The FidoNet DISNEY conference is for like-minded individuals to discuss
  27. _all_ things DISNEY, from the classic motion pictures of yesterday, today
  28. and tomorrow; to DISNEY television, both animated and live-action; to the
  29. world's greatest vacation destinations in Anaheim, Lake Buena Vista,
  30. Tokyo, and Marne-la-Valee; to DISNEY software; and to anything else you
  31. can think of to discuss about DISNEY.  Everyone is welcome here, in the
  32. "happiest conference on Earth!"
  33.  
  34. RULES AND POLICIES:

  36. =>Please keep your discussions on topic...as moderators, we will not
  37. "jump down your throat" for straying from strict center, but if you find
  38. yourself drifting away from pure DISNEY, please return to the topic, or
  39. take your messages to E-Mail (private netmail *not* posted to the Disney
  40. conference).  If we feel a thread has gone on long enough, we will jump
  41. in and say something to the effect that "this thread is over." At that
  42. point, you may continue the thread in question ONLY in E-Mail or on a
  43. more appropriate Fidonet conference.
  44.  
  45. =>If you see something going off-topic, please ignore it, or let us
  46. know in E-Mail...replies to off-topic messages just make things worse!
  47. Also, a lot of our moderating is done via private netmail, so don't
  48. assume that just because you don't see a public reminder about the
  49. rules that you are allowed to stray from them.  Questioning or
  50. discussion of these rules is off-topic from the beginning, except that
  51. the moderators reserve the right to post special messages relating to
  52. policy and rules from time to time as necessary.  This will be done by
  53. us with messages posted to the echo itself when we feel a public
  54. reminder of the echo rules is necessary.
  55.  
  56. =>Personal messages, nonsense messages, idle chit chat, test messages
  57. ("Are you reading this?" "Am I getting through?"), and "thank you"
  58. messages are personal in nature, and should be sent as E-Mail, and not
  59. in the conference.  If you need to test whether your messages are
  60. getting out successfully, please consult with your sysop or regional
  61. Fidonet administrator instead of posting to this conference.  Any
  62. surveys or requests for mass information input must be cleared with
  63. the moderators first.  This includes solicitation for addresses and
  64. business, mailing lists, shareware programs, and the like, including
  65. public response to such messages.
  66.  
  67. =>Advertising for commercial or charity ventures, either on or off
  68. Disney topic, is expressly forbidden, whether it be from a store
  69. representative or a private collector.  This includes buy/sell/swap
  70. messages dealing with Disney collectables.  While *discussion* of
  71. Disney/Disneyana conventions, merchandise and videos is welcome on
  72. the DISNEY echo, there are more appropriate FidoNet conferences
  73. (such as FOR-SALE and COLLECTABLES) that are better suited for the
  74. buying, selling, and trading of Disneyana antiques, merchandise,
  75. videos, and collectables.  Using private E-Mail is also encouraged
  76. for these types of messages rather than posting to the DISNEY echo.

  78. =>Keep control of your words and manners...where necessary, we can agree
  79. to disagree, but flaming, name-calling, and bad language are not welcome
  80. here, and will be considered cause for further disciplinary action.  If
  81. you can't make your point without resorting to insults, or by using
  82. profanity and demonstrating your lack of intelligence, take your point
  83. somewhere else!  As the tram driver at the Disney/MGM Studios Theme Park
  84. once said, "When exiting the tram car, please lower your head and watch
  85. your step...if you don't, then please lower your voice and watch your
  86. language!"  Please remember that this is a family conference...if you
  87. wouldn't want your kids reading it, don't write it!
  88.  
  89. =>Please use your real first and last name in the "From:" line of your
  90. messages.  Handles, pseudonyms, and other "contrived" names are not
  91. permitted in this conference.  If the BBS software where you call
  92. requires handles, ask the sysop if your real name can be used in this
  93. conference.  If not, you are required to sign your real full name to
  94. all messages posted under a handle.  Failure to do so will result in
  95. your being removed from this conference immediately.

  97. =>Cross-linking this conference with DISNEY conferences on other networks
  98. is forbidden without the consent of the moderators.  There are excellent
  99. DISNEY conferences on other networks, but this conference is intended for
  100. distribution on FidoNet only.  If you see something on another network
  101. that you think our readers would be interested in, please refer to the
  102. next paragraph...

  104. =>Reposting messages from other networks may only be done with the
  105. permission of the moderators.  Most BBS' that carry the FidoNet DISNEY
  106. conference must pay for the conference, either in dues, "rights fees", or
  107. long distance rates.  Please respect these expenses, and keep your
  108. reposting to a minimum.  If you see something somewhere that you wish to
  109. share with us all, please send it in an E-Mail message to the moderators,
  110. and we will review it.  Posting any UUencoded messages, regardless of
  111. content, is expressly forbidden. These are of little use to the majority
  112. of readers, and should be sent on request as E-Mail, or made available
  113. for FREQ or ftp ONLY.

  115. =>If you repost a message from this conference on another network, please
  116. give proper credit where credit is due.  Credit should be acknowledged to
  117. the FidoNet DISNEY conference, and to the author and/or the person who
  118. originally posted the message.

  120. =>When quoting a message, please only quote the lines you are responding
  121. to.  It is not necessary to quote a 12 line message when you are only
  122. responding to 2 lines...just quote what is necessary to remind the
  123. original poster what you are replying to.  Do not include personal
  124. hello/goodbye, "In a message to..." lines, offline mail reader
  125. identifiers, signatures, tag lines, origin lines, and the like in your
  126. quote.

  128. =>Out of courtesy to others, when you post something that might be a
  129. "spoiler" (ie. any information that might give away the plot lines of a
  130. movie, TV show, or attraction), please place a warning at the very
  131. beginning of your message to that effect, and place several blank lines
  132. prior to the "spoiler" information, so that those who do not wish to see
  133. it do not have to.
  134.  
  135. =>Please keep your tag-lines and signature files to a bare minimum,
  136. nothing too excessive, so as not to waste the money of the system
  137. operators who support this echo.  Please delete empty carriage returns
  138. at the end of your messages or above/below your .sig (signature).
  139.  
  140. =>By the same token, please avoid repetition of any kind.  Since we are
  141. all reading each other's public messages, it is not necessary to repeat
  142. the same information in messages addressed to specific people on the
  143. Disney echo.  State it once and move on.
  144.  
  145. =>"High ascii" (ANSI) characters are not permitted within the echo,
  146. since it cannot fairly be assumed that the receiving system necessarily
  147. has the capacity to display them.  Likewise, most of the users of this
  148. conference use the English language, so please don't post messages with
  149. text primarily in another language.  This would be incomprehensible to
  150. the majority of our users.  This is not meant to discourage users in
  151. non-English speaking countries from posting messages, because all who
  152. come to this happy Disney place are welcome.

  154. =>PLEASE DO NOT TYPE YOUR MESSAGES IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS!  In electronic
  155. messaging that is considered "shouting" and is hard to read.  It also
  156. helps to put paragraph breaks in your messages occasionally to improve
  157. readability.
  158.  
  159. =>Discussions about copying software or videos, stealing, or any other
  160. illegal activity will not be tolerated.  Such actions are against the
  161. basic goal of this echo and are irritating to other users.  Although it
  162. is recognized that users need to make archival copies of their programs
  163. (and perhaps even their videos), discussion of such here does nothing
  164. more than encourage those whose minds might stray to lesser, dark thoughts.
  165.  
  166. =>At their discretion, the moderators have an assistant moderator which
  167. they appoint to take their place should they become sick or away from
  168. the echo for extended periods of time.  While the moderators are present,
  169. the assistant is given the responsibility of helping in handling off-topic
  170. messages and other duties helpful to the moderators.  Final decisions
  171. shall be made by the moderator only, and all decisions of the moderatora
  172. ARE final.
