NOVELL LAUNCHES CERTIFIED NETWARE ENGINEER (CNE) ASSESSMENT TEST
New Promotion Aimed at Meeting Customer Demand for CNEs
PROVO, Utah -- October 1, 1991 -- Novell, Inc., (NASDAQ:NOVL) today
announced a promotion designed to help accelerate the growth of the
Certified NetWare Engineer (CNE) program and meet the increasing demand for
technical personnel trained to support NetWare networks.
Key to the promotion is a free diskette called the CNE Assessment Test, an
electronic exam designed to test all facets of NetWare understanding
required for CNE certification. Whether interested in becoming CNEs or
simply expanding their general networking knowledge, users can take the
Assessment Test to help them determine their individual level of NetWare
proficiency. They may then decide whether to take the CNE certification
tests at that point or seek additional training through Novell Authorized
Education Centers (NAECs).
According to Carolyn Rose, Novell director of education, the rapid
acceleration of the network computing industry has led to increased need
for technicians with the necessary skills to manage and troubleshoot
NetWare networks. "As the network computing industry grows in size and
complexity, the demand for technicians who can provide front-line support
also grows," said Rose. "Novell is committed more than ever to expanding
the number of CNEs in the market. We see it as one of the best ways to
continue to support our customers with the high level of technical
expertise that has characterized the CNE program since its beginning in
1989.
"Many of our users already have a good working knowledge of NetWare
technology," Rose added. "They just don't know the best way to increase
that knowledge or how to begin the CNE certification track. The Assessment
Test lets users know where their strengths and weaknesses lie and helps
them chart a course toward either becoming a CNE or simply expanding their
NetWare expertise."
CNE Testing Center at NetWorld
Novell will kick off the CNE Assessment Test promotion at the CNE Testing
Center at NetWorld Dallas (October 14-17). In the Testing Center, CNE
candidates can either pick up a copy of the CNE Assessment Test on disk or
take the test on the spot. Anyone who feels prepared may also take any of
the seven CNE certification exams at NetWorld (cost $70/test). Novell
education and testing personnel will be on hand to offer individualized
guidance and recommend a skills-enhancement program.
"We're challenging people to put their network knowledge to the test," said
Rose. "We're actively seeking anyone with the skills and expertise our
customers need. If you have the right networking stuff, come to the
Testing Center at NetWorld and we'll help you get on your way to becoming a
CNE."
Novell Authorized Education Centers to Offer Assessment Test
Through national and local advertising, Novell will let users know to pick
up their copy of the Assessment Test at one of over 400 Novell Authorized
Education Centers (NAECs) throughout the U.S. and Canada. Using the
Assessment Test prescription as a guide, NAECs will be able to recommend
optimum training paths on an individual basis, customizing the education
curriculum. This way, users can obtain CNE certification in a way most
suited to their needs. Interested users can call the Novell Education
hotline (1-800-233-EDUC) for the NAEC nearest them. NAECs can provide
courses led by instructors, or design a curriculum employing a number of
self-study options.
The CNE Program
CNE candidates receive certification by passing the following tests:
o MS DOS/Micro Hardware Understanding
o NetWare v2.2: System Manager
o NetWare v2.2: Advanced System Manager
o NetWare v3.11: OS Features Review
