  25. Actually, GEOS comes standard with "Text Grabber."  The problem is that it
  26. only recognizes certain file formats (e.g., Easy Script, etc.).  I am
  27. looking for a file which will allow GEOS to recognize the Word fiile
  28. format.

  76. As you read by now, it's possible to send files via e-mail. You would
  77. have to uuencode it which is possible by the uxfer program that was
  78. mentioned or with Novaterm 9.6 or ACE.

  80. Also mentioned some e-mail servers supports uuencoding and uudecoding
  81. features. These include Pine and dired, the latter which I use for my
  82. sending of files through e-mail.

  96. I have a C-128D that I am trying to have GEOS boot from my RAMlink.
  97. I can get it to boot, but none of my autoexec files run. I am running
  98. TopDesk and it comes up in it but it doesnt run the 4th disk autoexec or my
  99. HDtime
  100. autoexec. But the weird part is that blackout installs and runs....but I
  101. dont have the program on my RAMlink.....I am completly confused.
  102. Any help you can theough my way I would love to hear about it!

  170. I don't have experience with a RamLink, but it sounds like Geos is
  171. getting its Auto-Exec files from your drive A, which is probably the
  172. 128D's internal drive. Watch your drive during boot and you're going to
  173. see some access taking place that is Blackout loading.
  174.  
  175. One solution is to write a short program to renumber your drives and
  176. RamLink so the RamLink is device 8 and then boot Geos. Or if the RamLink
  177. has a Swap 8 button like the CMD hard drives do, you could just use that.)
  178.  
  179. If that doesn't work, another way to handle this would be to use my
  180. program AutoRunner to load the auto-execs after boot. AutoRunner is
  181. available on my home page. (If you do this, you're going to have to
  182. delete Blackout from whatever disk it's on, unless you want it to run).

  201.      Please be aware that there have been some recent media announcements
  202.      of the first Excel macro virus, named "Laroux".
  203.  
  204.      Below is information from McAfee's Internet home page regarding the
  205.      LAROUX virus.  (McAfee is a company that specializes in the detection
  206.      and removal of computer virii.)
  207.  
  208.      Virus Characteristics - LAROUX is a macro virus, which infects
  209.      Microsoft Excel spreadsheets within the Microsoft Excel environment.
  210.      LAROUX is not a destructive virus. It contains no payload.
  211.  
  212.      The LAROUX virus infects the PERSONAL.XLS file. The file PERSONAL.XLS
  213.      is a default filename similar to NORMAL.DOT for Microsoft Word for
  214.      Windows.  If this file does not exist, the virus creates one. After
  215.      this has been accomplished, any created or accessed spreadsheets are
  216.      infected.
  217.  
  218.      LAROUX uses two macros to replicate. These macros are auto_open and
  219.      check_files. LAROUX infects Excel versions 5 and 7, under the
  220.      following Window Platforms:
  221.      Win 3.1x, Win 95 and Win NT. It does not replicate under Excel
  222.      versions 3 or 4.  Because of the way it searches for PERSONAL.XLS
  223.      (PERSONAL.XLS is a DOS filename), the virus does not function properly
  224.      on Macintosh platforms.
  225.  
  226.      Indications of Infection - LAROUX includes a hidden worksheet named
  227.      "laroux." To make it visible, use Windows/Hide, File/UnHide.
  228.  
  229.      Method of Infection - The infection spreads from one computer user to
  230.      another when a LAROUX-infected worksheet is shared and opened by
  231.      another
  232.      user. The infected file can be spread via e-mail attachments, floppy
  233.      diskettes and files exchanged over corporate networks and Intranets.
  234.  
  235.      Virus Information:  Discovery Date - July, 1996, Origin - Alaska /

  247.      I have a 64, a Super Graphics Senior printer interface, and a
  248.      Panasonic KX-P2124 printer.

  250.      I am trying to get Pocket Writer to print to my printer.  Many
  251.      different printer selections get it to print the text, but what driver
  252.      (and combination of dip switch settings) should I select to get it to
  253.      print all formatting options (e.g., bold, italic, etc.)?
  254.  
  255.      I can get bold, underline, super and subscript to work on an
  256.      MPS1000/IBM setting, but cannot get it to do italics.
  257.  
  258.      I saw an option in Pocket Writer to "create" your own printer driver.
  259.      Is this true?  If so, maybe I could just modify the MPS1000/IBM driver
  260.      so as to do italics.

  262.      I have the SuperGraphics set with all of the switches in the down
  263.      position (those of you with a SG interface will know what that means).

  266.      from GeoWrite.  I got tired of not being able to see all of my text on
  267.      the screen at once, and got tired of the slowness of GeoWrite, and
  268.      (finally) the unreliability of Geos in general.

  271.      Super CPU (which I understand they have started shipping).

  303. There is a PC version called oddly enough: PC-GEOS Ensmble.  It has a word
  304. processor, paint program, ect.  They (GeoWorks) have been spending alot of
  305. time in the PDA market and have implimented it on alot of palmtop computers.
  306. it is supported mostly by users much like ourselves. Alot of the development
  307. goes on in germany but GeoWorks (formerly Berkley softworks) does have a web
  308. site dedicated to it.

  345. Hmmm...  I could not get Italics on my new Star 1000 printer either when
  346. using Paperclip.  At least not when I tried the printer test.

  349. manual for my printer.

  355. Yes.  They are just plain text files.  Just load them up and edit them.

  445. There is an environent for the PC called GeoWorks Ensemble. Other than
  446. sharing the same name and manufacturer, though, it has little or nothing
  447. in common with Commodore Geos. And there is no Geos for the Mac because
  448. Geos is "the Mac for the Commodore"!   ;)

  482. It is, and so is Linux.  Both are UNIX OS systems that run on Intel macines.
  483. (well, Linux runs on other platforms as well).

  485. Linux is my personal choice, as it is POSIX compliant, and it runs
  486. on more platforms.

  535. Ya, Linux is the way to go.  I run Linux on my 486 for a fileserver for
  536. my Commodore collection.  Go buy a Linux Journal Magazine and order the
  537. Slackware 3.0 release of Linux for a mere $6.00 from Walnut Creek.  I
  538. guarantee you won't be dissapointed at all.  Way cool OS for free!
